Dr. Karl Marc Koenig

Wow, I'm glad to see all these other people had good hip and femur surgeries that went extremely well. Mine did not, needless to say 3 operations with Koenig and I'm ina wheelchair now. But I'm sure he profiled me by my past, and what he thought I'd do after surgery. Never did a replacement but had 3 surgeries with him. I believe he should've done the plastic hip replacement from the beginning. After showing a bad reaction to metal on 1st operation. (Different Dr) He also told me once he starts on my hip he's my one and only Dr for this. But last visit I saw some Dr I'd never seen before, and was told by Koenig maybe I should look for a 2nd opinion. I do believe the hip replacement not being put in HAD TO DO WITH MY PAST AND MY INSURANCE. To this day he's told me he's going to put a replacement, but has not reached out to me, and I've been given a foot lift and a wheelchair. I could've had a plastic replacement put in on my 3 Rd surgery, and avoided metal all together.

Dr. Koenig has proven himself to be a true advocate, a skilled and brilliant surgeon and a genuinely kind and concerned person to my family. We are all so thankful to have found him and benefitted from his expertise and forward looking hopeful enthusiasm. The care he gave my brother truly changed his life for the better in so many ways that I cannot list them all. Hell of a surgeon. I recommend Dr. Karl to everyone. He's straight forward doesn't beat around the bush like others surgeon I've been too lied by other surgeon.

Excellent surgeon, This is an excellent doctor and is quick to resolve and remedy the situation medically. Fantastic.

Dr Koenig was the 5th orthopedic that I had visited in Austin. Two years ago I broke my femur and had a partial hip replacement. Recovered from that and after two different PT groups I was still walking like a penguin and not without pain in my leg. The Dr prior to Dr Koenigs visit told me I had a detached muscle and would walk like that the rest of my life. Dr Koenig agreed that I had a muscle detached and a tendon that was 80% torn - yes he would try to repair and at the same time do a complete hip replacement. Surgery went extremely well with Tylenol being the strongest meds I had to take at home. Because of the detached muscle I was in a brace so I could not begin PT for 6 weeks. After 12 weeks from surgery, I am progressing with my PT and beginning to walk without the cane. Hopefully I will be on the golf course in the next 6 weeks without my penguin walk. I truly feel Dr. Koenig was my angel. When everyone else had given up - he tried and I believe he fixed my problem. Plus he talks and listens to you! If I could I would give him 10 stars! Dr. Karl Koenig did 2 total knee replacements for me. Last surgery was Oct 21, 2020 on left knee. He did my right knee in early August 2020. The right knee is almost 100%, left knee his healing fast too. He is a great orthopedic surgeon. He and his staff explained how the procedure works and what I needed to do with physical therapy. He is an excellent Dr. He listens and offers expert advice.. He and his team are very professional and knowledgeable. Ud your appointment is for 30 muna you will get the full 30 mins with the Dr and Dr Koenig will stay until every questioned has been answered. He also has a loverly smile.

Dr koenig is an excellent Dr and surgeon, he has always taken the time to listen to me and answer any questions i had.

6/12/19 EXELLENT Dr Karl Koenig and his team at University of Texas Health Austin, the Musculoskeletal Institute deserve more than the most number of stars that can be given here. I had an excellent left hip replacement June 2018 that is still excellent and going strong. I had a right hip replacement April 2019 that was doing well at two week follow up appointment. Due to my fault, I fell in a way that it couldn’t do anything other than break the day after that follow up appointment. It was a weekend but Dr Koenig was right there to beautifully repair it. I was walking well with a walker 2 DAYS after surgery and very well WITHOUT a walker at 2 WEEKS after surgery. I’m a nurse practitioner and know a most excellent physician and excellent team when I see them. He and his team are unequivocally that!!! Dr Koenig always responds himself to questions through the patient portal in 24 hours or less with responses that really do answer my questions. He is exceptionally patient and elicits dialogue for concerns and questions. All members of his expert and personable team have responded equally fast and helpfully when I have messaged them through the patient portal. He and his team use the best and newest evidence based orthopedic medical and surgical information. I have been able to take an active part in my orthopedic health and orthopedic care decisions. He and his team actively make it easy for the patient to be an active member of their own health care team. I have always had options presented to me and my decisions have been supported. Dr Koenig has excellent interpersonal skills. All members of his team have the same excellent expertise and communication skills. My hips are very healthy due to his unequaled expertise and that of his team. I hope that anyone with orthopedic concerns of the lower extremities will make an appointment with Dr Karl Koenig without trying other orthopedic specialists because he is the best of the best in expertise, communication skills, and at being an all around caring doctor! I had my first orthopedic surgery (full thoracic fusion, old style, followed by almost two years in a body cast) in 1968 when I was a child -- and I still suffer from a multitude of injuries (old injuries which now need some revision) and ongoing congenital problems as I get older. I've had many surgeries and have been in 20+ hospitals over the past 60+ years -- my case is not a simple one -- and I am not a pleasant person when suffering great pain. Well! Dr. Koenig is kind, a real person, and gentle -- he is the FIRST surgeon who has treated me like a whole human being and not just 'the knee waiting in exam room 9B'. He replaced my right knee day before yesterday, and I already feel better -- range of motion in the knee is actually better despite the post-surgery swelling and pain. People, this surgeon is a gem in a field of semi-precious rocks, and I cannot recommend him highly enough. I've been seeing Dr. Koenig for complications of previous hip surgeries. He and his staff are very helpful and caring. I highly recommend him.

Without Dr. Karl's amazing surgical skills my kiddo would never have walked again! I cannot express how thankful I am that he was on call that August night @ DHMC! Karl is AMAZING!

I had hip replacement by Dr. Koenig at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center and I could not be more pleased in that the results were far better than I had ever expected and I was able to return to work without any pain medications right away. Dr. Koenig was hands on, caring and very attentive.

Scheduling an appointment or even getting thru to his office is horrible. No one ever answers the phone...the call goes to voice mail..you leave a meesage but NEVER get a call back. If you need to go to this office it better not be an emergency.. i waited 3 months to ge my referal accepted and then a couple of more weeks to get an appointment!
