Dr. McKennan made my hearing worse than it already was. I went to see the "doctor" about severe hearing loss in hopes to get some hearing aids and was sold a story about how he can improve my hearing by %90 without hearing aids. After a very expensive surgery and a very painful week of recovery I now can hear less than before I saw him. My last visit with him resulted in the "doctor" telling me that I need hearing aids. It has been 5 months since the surgery and I now suffer from daily headaches and numbness on the left side of my head which I fear may be permanent.

He had been my moms dr for many years! He’s a great Dr And surgeon !

Spent 15 years with Meniere's syndrome, bouncing from doctor to doctor before being referred to Dr. McKennan. He understood the progression of my symptoms and was able to offer a non-invasive procedure for treatment. The method not only reduced my attacks, it helped retain the hearing in that one ear. He reviewed my current tests with those from the past, gave me a better understanding on what to expect moving forward. It has been nearly 5 years since my last major episode with Meniere's, I feel better than I ever have since being diagnosed with Meniere's.

I would recommend Dr McLennan without hesitation. He reversed my hearing loss and changed my world.

I very highly recommend Dr McKennan.. I travel two hours away to see him. I’ve seen various ENT specialists he is by far the best! He is great at listening and explaining your options very thoroughly.

Dr. McKennan has performed three procedures for me. A stapes replacement over 15 years ago and two cochlear implant surgeries in the past five years. He is a superb clinician and a very caring person. His skill with procedures inside the ear are remarkable and takes many years to perfect. It is very easy to trust his judgement and recommendations. I owe my hearing to this wonderful physician, whom I will always hold in vrry high regard.

I am a 72 year old man who has worn hearing aids for 35 years. Over the years my hearing degraded to the point where I started exploring cochlear implants. Unfortunately, I did not qualify for an implant until this year. I met with Dr. McKennan and found him to be very personable. He explained the procedure clearly, and in layman's terms, which I appreciated. My surgery went well and I am now adjusted to life with sound again. My wife is very happy with the results. I've had issues with Vertigo over the past few years and have been through a few Neurologists and ENTs. None of which have been able to difinitively diagnose what is causing the problem. I had heard a lot of good things about McKennan so I was excited to see him. When I called to make the appointment, the office demanded I send them all previous doctor notes and test results (to the tune of about 80 pages of patient history from 5 different specialists) before they would schedule an appointment. To me, this felt like I was going to see a doctor that wanted to be informed in order to properly help and diagnose his patient and I was genuinly happy about it. When I finally saw McKennan however, he spent about 10 minutes examining by ears and nose (concluded they looked great) and another 5 minutes listening to me walk him through my history of symptoms before telling me he needed to look through the patient history packet I had sent over. He had not read any of the patient history I had send over and after about the first 5 pages, he turned around, told me be believed the cause was due to BPPV (a diagnosis that has been ruled out by 2 neurologists, an ENT, and my current physical therapist) and asked me if I would like my patient history back. He was polite and smiled but I have never felt so dismissed by a doctor. For the record, I am not advising that anynot not see McKennan for treatment. Judging by the rest of these reviews, he does seem to be very intelligent and capable of treating a lot of people and I don't want someone he could potentially help to miss out on treatment. First let me say Dr McKennan is awesome and if this review was just about him, He would absolutely get 5 stars. But Kathy, who makes appointments for him, either doesn’t like her job or is too overwhelmed. She doesn’t return phone calls (did not return a call for over a week to make an appointment). Also, when I called to find out why an MRI wasn’t scheduled as Dr McKennan had said it would, the call went to voicemail twice. So you can’t even speak to someone of you have a question. The voicemail says they will get back to you in 24 hours.(I’m hoping that’s true). I think waiting 24 hours for a call back is unacceptable. I hate to give a bad review since Dr McKennan is so good but customer service front the front office is important too. Dr. McKennan showed me the perforation in my ear drum and changed my medication to a more appropriate one. Will be back in 2 weeks to see if my middle ear is better or needs a tube.

Fantastic doctor, very kind and informative. He takes time to do things like draw out diagrams and explain to you what he finds. I've seen him a few times since he performed surgery for my cholesteatoma in 2008. I would recommend him to anyone looking for an ENT.

Dr. McKinnon was excellent explaining my problem, took time showing me the MRI images, and what medical procedures may be needed. He scheduled a balance test which I will taking and the reason for it. He couldn’t have been more professional! I would recommend him to anyone with hearing problems!!

I lived for many years with very poor hearing, even with hearing aids, because I was told twice, over a 20 year period, that my profound hearing loss was due to inner ear damage that was not operable because there was a high likelihood that surgery would fail, leaving me completely deaf. I went on believing this until a hospital infection, called C-Difficile and the treating antibiotic Vancomycin, temporarily reduced my hearing to zero, resulting in the use of a chalkboard, to communicate with my wife, for nearly two months. This hearing loss led me to Dr. McKennan, to whom I explained my previous hearing issues, this was after I had stopped taking Vancomycin and had regained most of my previous poor hearing. Dr. McKennan told me the previous diagnosis of surgery causing deafness was nonsense and that a good surgeon could repair the damage. Seeing my reluctance, Dr. McKennan said look you are already deaf in one ear, so why not do surgery on that one and see what happens, which made perfect sense. The surgery was a huge success, I could actually hear without a hearing aid, this was five years ago, in 2014. I told Dr. McKennan let’s do the other ear, which was also a success, this was in 2015. I saw Dr. McKennan recently, for vertigo, which has nothing to do with the two stapedectomy surgeries. My ears checked out well and the vertigo is age related. Dr. McKennan restored my hearing to moderate loss, so I still wear hearing aids to sharpen the hearing, but I hear fine now without hearing aids, which was not possible for many years. It’s great to hear noises outside and inside the house, at night, when my hearing aides are put away. I can actually hear the rain now, hitting the roof of my house, without hearing aids, that’s a big deal to a person who couldn’t hear before. There is no finer ear doctor anywhere than Dr. McKennan. I came to Dr McKennan 3 years ago after moving to CA from OR, where I was scheduled for surgery on my eardrum. Dr McKennan advised me to not have surgery, but to instead monitor my ear every 6 months for changes. It has been 3 years of no changes and I now go to see him once a year for monitoring. I am so thankful that he saved me from an ear surgery that would have had more cons than pros. Dr McKennan is awesome! I travel two hours for my appointments to see him - he’s one of the best.. I’ve had severe ear problems since I was a little kid and have undergone ear surgery to help with my hearing loss. He’s very thorough when giving diagnosis and explains best treatments.

I was referred to Dr McKennan for surgery on my Acoustic Neuroma on Feb 26. He was very knowledgeable, kind, explained everything in detail. He does this surgery as a team with Dr Benscoter. Both are wonderful surgeons in their field and I highly recommend them!

Lady I spoke to on the phone about being seen was unbelievably rude. Have an ear infection that was in the hospital for. And she didn’t care about helping me to be seen by a doctor. I was very pleased with my experience at SacENT. Dr. McKenna is quite a good communicator. He was very informative. Answered questions patiently and was very thorough. He made sure I was assured and informed every step of the way. Every staff person I met with was very helpful.

It was a long wait as it was my initial office visit but I was very pleased with the time the doctor spent with me and explained things!

Dr. McKennan and staff were especially helpful, kind, thorough and informative. I went in expecting to receive news that a cochlear implant was the only option to correct my profound hearing loss. My hearing aids were no longer effective in correcting my hearing loss and was significantly affecting my quality of life. After a thorough exam, Dr. McKennan was able to determine that my deafness in my right ear could be corrected with a stapedectomy and a small prosthesis in that ear. I am able to participate in conversations again without constantly asking people for repeating themselves or avoiding social situations. I no longer require a hearing aid in my right ear. Dr McKennan is a great Dr. He performed a tympanoplasty and a canal plasty on my 8 year old son. Not only did he do an excellent job repairing my child's eardrum, he was patient and perfectly illustrated and explained everything. He and his staff are very professional, show respect for your time and handled all of the testing and consultation with care and efficiency. Dr. McKennan is probably the best ENT doctors around (and I've seen many a doctor for my ear problems). He explains things very, very well and knows exactly what he is doing. I really can't recommend him enough...he's a world class physician right here in Sacramento.

To sum it up, I have been blessed to successfully undergo two surgeries at the hands of the amazing and almighty Dr. Mckennan to reconstruct my ear canals. He’s a good-natured man of his word who is very skilled and excelled in his profession. He always treated me in a professional and respectful manner and has earned my trust and admiration. He deserves the utmost respect and recognition, and is worth any drive or wait. I confidently recommend him to anybody and ensure you’re in good hands!!!

Had a QME appointment with Dr. McKenna and was very pleased. He was easy to talk to, understood what was going on and explained what he was going to do and why. Great experience!

I feel bad for those that did not have the FANTASTIC experience I had. 1. Scheduling was what would be expected of a busy PROFESSIONAL. 2. Staff was incredibly, easy to talk to and VERY Positive. 3. Dr. was friendly and not only talked my wife and I thru options. He showed pictures and the XRays to explain what and why I needed and what result should be. I had virtually lost hearing in my left ear and could not wear Hearing Aids. Dr. rebuilt my ear now have about 80% of my hearing back.

Have seen many ear specialists around the country and would have to say that this Doctor is the best!! He is bright, informative and a super kind individual. Since I already knew most of my ear issues it was a relief that he confirmed them and treated with the minimum surgery that was necessary. Even if you need to wait a bit for him He is worth it!!
