Dr Haffenreffer misdiagnosed my problem, cavalierly misprescribed exercises that did a number on my lower back, then mislead me into believing the problem could be fixed easily with outpatient surgery from which I would recover in a weekend. In fact I was in agony for 9 days after surgery and could find no comfortable sleeping position throughout that time. Haffenrffer didn't perform the surgery, but the young female doctor who did showed virtually no concern about my experience. The surgery did no good whatsoever. Adding insult to injury, Hafferreffer keeps you waiting past your appointment time while he yucks it up with the rude male nurses who work in his department. I saw him 3-4 times, and each time he acted as though he'd never laid eyes on me before.

I was sent to Dr. Haffenreffer after an emergency room visit and he was amazing. He actually listened and treated me with respect. Not at all condescending, like so many other orthopedists. He sent for a consultation with another ortho for my problem just to be sure but in the end he was the one who diagnosed me and figured out my issue. I would give Dr. Haffenreffer 100 stars if I could! He helped me get back to normal walking after I took a bad fall on both knees. I thought I was destined for a wheelchair. I can't say enough good things about this doctor

I saw Dr. Haffenreffer because of arthritic knee pain. We talked about a cortisone injection, which I declined at that time. He gave me some exercises to do which definitely helped. His best advice, for me, was simple and straightforward: “the best thing you can do for arthritis is to keep moving.” He was spot on. I saw him recently due to an increase in pain and got the cortisone shot. Much relief, and I’m still doing my exercises. Dr. H is the best. I have arthritis in both my knees. For months he kept giving me exercises to do but they hurt too much so I only did them once in awhile. I finally got the mindset to do them everyday. What a difference!! I’m starting to be able to move better and go longer between shots. Dr. H kept encouraging me I’m so glad I finally listened. He is easy to talk and patient. Very kind. Also Pina is wonderful too

Not caring for my pain, not making a differential dx , not willing to be flexible and give me an MRI when I had been in pains for 3 weeks, and despite writing down on the prescreened comorbidities that I suffer of GERD, he preferred to prescribe me a cheaper NSAID that wasn't enteric coated, probably to please my insurance, not my stomach. I left the same way I came, after about 90 minutes of waiting. I regret I have chosen him from the Boston Magazine "Top Doctors In Boston" list.

I have been treated by Dr. Haffenreffer for about ten years. He has always been kind, courteous and professional. His examinations are very thorough, and he always listens to what I have to say before telling me what he thinks. He performed an arthroscopy on my left knee several years ago with such a great result, I walked out of the hospital an hour afterwards without crutches or a cane and with no limp. His responsiveness and follow-up care are excellent, too. I have confidently referred clients as well as members of my family to him. The greatest thing he did for me is to not just give me specific, targeted stretching exercises to do, but to explain exactly how and why the exercises work. Those exercises have fixed my dislocated shoulder as well as have allow me to do strenuous work without feeling the usual residual lower back pain people in their sixties expect. They even allow me to be able to deal with a dislocated SI joint in my pelvis. Those exercises have changed my life! Thank you, Dr. Haffenreffer! I had seen Dr Haffenreffer after a skiing accident- Although the only patient there, he kept me waiting 45 minutes as he told jokes to someone on the phone. He examined me with such force and wouldn't stop though I was begging him to stop (I have a VERY high pain tolerance in general)- I nearly passed out and vomited. His bedside manner's atrocious. 2nd visit he yelled at me for not doing the exercises which he neglected to give me. never received the brace he meant to order. Stay clear!!

When i went to see Dr, Haffenreffer, I had swollen /Hurting knees due to minor injury to my knee cap. I could not climb or descend stairs. I had actually accepted that I may need surgery. He analyzed my injury after x rays and detailed physical exam. He prescribed special shoes and shoe inserts. I was climbing and descending stairs in a week with no pain. Today I do the same without any pain. He saved me from a surgery/Surgeries that most other doctors would have prescribed as the only way out.

Dr Haffenreffer did a total knee replacement for me a year ago, and I'm so glad he did. I can walk without pain. Throughout the process, Dr H was professional, kind, compassion, and knowledgeable. His approach to managing the pain and regaining mobility after surgery was aggressive and very effective. I would go back to him in a heartbeat if I needed additional orthopedic help. Kudos to Dr H! Dr. Heffenreffer calls himself a "sports" orthopedic. I'm surprise he is even a doctor. I arrived early to an appointment where I had to wait a long time to see him. This doctor gave me about 15 minutes, never touched my affected shoulder - which was the reason I was there. He told me I should give up surfing. Gave me a piece of paper with cartoons on it and said "now go do these exercises". You don't need to do anything except follow the exercises on this paper. i asked him If I would be having an MRI done - he told me he didn't think it was necessary. I had an MRI . MRI results indicated several tears, Hill-Sachs lesion, bone fractions broken off, tendonosis, and subchondral marrow edema - among other things with the cartilage. I've gone to see Dr. Micheli of Boston Children's (New England Baptiste) He has put me on a PT program with a human, not a cartoon. he has explained the complexity of my diagnosis. Oh, and he examined my shoulder to determine where the instability was. It is so easy to reate Heffenreffer's poor care after having such great care with Dr. Micheli. My experience as Dr. Haffenreffer's patient has been fantastic. He is quite knowledgeable, personable and works with the person, not just the issue. He looks for the best methods of healing, not just a quick fix. I have complete confidence in him.
