My mother was in the ED at shift change. She was dying. I went to the desk to ask when a doctor would be into see her as she was having trouble breathing. He eventually came in and in a snarky manner asked what I think should be done. She passed in the ED that day. I will never forget that terrible interaction. No compassion. Because he didn't want to take a new patient at shift change.
