Would definitely recommend Dr. Agren. He did my third back surgery quickly. I was in his office on a Tuesday and by that friday i was in the OR. Very professional and tells you exactly how everything goes. He is currently going to do my spinal fusion. I would not go to any other doctor for my back issues. I am so fortunate to have Dr. Mats Agren as my physician following my unexpected fall in March 2022 followed by severe back pain. My PCP recommended Dr. Agren (I had heard good things about him as well), and I called for an appointment. Dr. Agren kindly fit me in to his extremely booked up schedule when he learned how much pain I was in. In the first visit, the x-ray showed a compression fracture of my L-1 vertebrae. He thoroughly and patiently explained everything about my injury/options for best healing; answered all my questions in a friendly, kind, very knowledgeable manner. He has done that in my follow-up visits as well...showing me my x-rays, monitoring my progress, suggesting exercises, etc. Dr. Agren takes the time to care, and even told me "not to be scared" (when I said I was), but "to be concerned instead" - good advice! He is a "gem" of a doctor, and I appreciate and recommend him highly. Maybe I'm old-fashioned, but I am so glad drs. like Dr. Agren still exist!

Fabulous compassionate .. best Orthopedic Dr .. he treated my Mom years ago and that experience was forever ingrained in my memory…

Dr. Agren removed successfully my herniated disc in December 1995. I had been in continual pain for several months. I was home in my own bed by 11:30am the morning of the surgery. The pain was totally gone. I healed quickly and regained full function - golfing, gardening, biking. He was always professional, kind, and patient. I was compelled to write to tell how completely satisfied I was with the results of the 3 level stenosis “cleanup “ surgery on DEC. 16th. I was given the green light to start skiing again the 2nd week of January, and I have gone 23 times thus far, sometimes going 9-4 even, with just a lunch break. I don’t even think about a back issue anymore (other than the stiffness with arthritis). You nailed this diagnosis + treatment! After 6 months of pain and not being able to do anything, I don’t take for granted my mobility anymore. He exceeded my expectations and met my highest hopes. If Dr. Babikian is the Picasso of hip replacements (read that in a review), then you are the Rembrandt of back surgeries. Staff at St. Mary’s day surgeries were superb!

Three visits with him, he asked all the same questions each time and I had all the same answers each time. He didn't even have the decency to tell me he wasn't going to do the surgery. I found out by the woman who answered the phone after she accessed my personal information. She read it to me, so the conclusion was that there was nothing he could do for me! I had X-rays, MRI's, and an EMG. I even saw Dr. Reppel for a procedure which didn't work All of this pain I'm in and there was nothing he could do? All this time was wasted when I could have gone elsewhere. His memory isn't right and I think he's just waiting to retire.

Dr. Agren is very attentive, caring, and makes you feel very comfortable...Does not rush you, and wants to hear anything you have to say, or concerns you may have...I was very pleased with him..

Wouldn’t recommend very rude doctor. His staff are great himself I wouldn’t recommend. He isn’t prompt on notes so you wait a week or more for other doctors to be able to send out needed insurance forms. He calls you by the wrong name it was a very awkward visit. Then stood at door waiting to leave the entire time.

I fractured three vertebrae and was sent to Dr Agren because my primary doctor said he’s the best in the state. I had some reservations because of the reviews written here, however I trust my doctor and had the appointment with Dr. Agren. My daughter accompanied me because she works in the health field and wanted to listen to the prognosis and ask questions. I was so grateful and delighted with Dr. Agren. He introduced himself to both of us with a smile and handshake. He went over the MRI results and X-rays showing us visually what was wrong. He listened patiently to our questions and concerns, and then answered with clarity and compassion. I am 67 and live alone, so naturally I had some concerns. Dr Agren took time to help me with my natural fears of the, “what ifs” in the future. My daughter was very impressed with his thoroughness and personality. I am on my third follow up visit and again, Dr.Agren arrives and greets me with a handshake, a smile and has a wonderful and engaging personality. My fears are gone even if the back issues will be issues forever. My experience with Dr. Agren gave me a sense of confidence, because from the first hello he showed he was sincerely invested in giving me the best treatment he has to offer. In conclusion, I suggest that those considering Dr Agren go. That if you are looking at reviews please try various sites and not one with just 3 (now 4 with mine). Also, you go to his office and ask the staff for exit reviews which are available. Remember, good doctors certainly are out there, but great doctors are few. They are in a class of their own, and willing to try harder to get the best results while never compromising the patients health. Trust me, I checked and asked many people and friends in the medical field about Dr. Agren and everyone has said the same thing..... Dr Agren is one of the great ones. Dr Agren did a spinal decompression on me in 2007 at L4-L5. This resulted in immediate relief from numb legs due to a pinched nerve in my spine. Before: I could walk at most about 400' and then had to sit down and stretch for a while before I could walk a little again. After: I was walking 1-4 miles a day while the incision healed (2-3 weeks) and then I could walk and hike unlimitedly. Then in 2019 Dr. Agren needed to do another spinal decompression on me at L2-L4 because of shooting pain down my left leg after walking about 500'. Same immediate complete cure! I regard it essentially as a miracle. Dr. Agren diagnosed the situation accurately and quickly and did a fine job to rectify the situation

Wonderful doctor!!! Kind, compassionate, and explains everything in a way to make all the medical jargon understandable. I suffered daily migraines for 4 years before agreeing to cervical fusion in 2008. The surgery and his aftercare has made such a difference in my quality of life.

Dr Mats Agren is a wonderful Doctor. He spends a lot of time explaining everything to you and listens to what you have to say! This world should have more Doctors just like him.

I would highly recommend Dr. Agren. He was very patient and listened to all my concerns. I felt he took the time to explain everything to me. He made several recommendations that would help me without surgery. Which I was very grateful for.

Excellent doctor. Took time with me and explained everything I needed to know about my current issues and also recommended exercises to help my problem. I never felt rushed. I was definitely very satisfied with Dr. Agren and so was my husband. I highly recommend him. Office help was very pleasant also. So nice to deal with such great people
