5/16/96... So wait... "EVIDENCE???" Good God does Washington County want EVIDENCE Oh sweet God! How significant it is to be thrown into a wall on my only child's birthday- And what are the chances I get Washington County after it's all done- GONG 4 4 4 YEARS I ALWAYS SAY "I'M RETARDEEEEEEEED!" (We're all bipolar the criteria for that equals human...) That leaves 3 years for Statutes of Limitations... This is somewhat of a difficult review to write.. because Dr. Hicken is a genuinely caring and well meaning doctor. Unfortunately he wasn't able to help my family when it came to our complex(?) illnesses. One of the incident was with a Physician Assistant at this office. I wasn't feeling well after I gave birth to my first son and the blood test results showed I had abnormal thyroid levels after giving birth. With just this test, the PA called to ask me to take a Thyroid scan and Uptake, involving radioactive pills that would require me to stay away from my family/baby for days and stop breastfeeding altogether. I specifically mentioned to her if this was really necessary since I just gave birth and breastfeeding and did not have a caretaker. She said it's what needs to be done and was upset that I questioned her and pushy on getting the appointment date set. I am so glad I followed my gut instinct and told her I'd get back to her. Then I called a specialist and I'm so glad I did because it turns out that my blood test showed I had what is called Postpartum Thyroiditis and this requires no treatment nor any more testing other than monthly check ups. My specialist also mentioned that Thyroid scan is NOT recommended for breastfeeding mothers and the scan is only done on severe cases such cancer and etc. They also missed my mother's bacterial sinus infection which was ongoing for two years. I knew it wasn't right when antibiotics given to her wasn't helping and green mucus clumps were coming out of her mouth. But Dr. Hicken still just prescribed her antibiotics. Once again, I reached out to a specialist because even to my untrained eyes, that did not look like a simple antibiotic treatment type of symptoms. Her nasal cavity was filled with infected fluid and the specialist performed surgery right away. This was life threatening and we are so sad it took so long but I'm glad I once again followed my instinct because we were never referred to any specialists or was given any follow ups. My mother stopped going to Dr. Hicken after this incident. They also didn't have an afterhours nurse line. I once called a number assuming it was a nurse line but it ended up being Dr. Hicken's personal phone number. I was shocked just as shocked as he probably was to hear from someone at midnight for sudden heart palpitations. Had I known that this was his personal number not a call center I would not have dialed. Well he recommended I see a psychologist because of my ongoing illnesses. Sorry Dr. Hicken, it wasn't that I was crazy but simply I had untreated Iron Deficiency.. Once again, my OBGYN was able to diagnose me and properly treat me and we are all okay. Follow your instincts and if you have ongoing issues that they can't figure out, please seek out another doctor. I'd say this office is good for noncomplex issues. Dr. Hicken has been my PCP for the past 15 years. He’s a great doctor, very thorough and I’ve never felt rushed.

I've been going to Dr Hicken for well over 10 years. I'm one to go in to a doctors office and question everything they say and if I don't feel comfortable with their answers, then I say so and ask more. Dr Hicken was so, so patient, that he passed with flying colors. I still ask questions, but that's just me. I trust him with my life and would recommend him to anyone. I've had surgeons comment that he is a great doctor for catching little things so quickly. He's honest and not out to get that mighty buck and does NOT push unnecessary pills on you. Dr Hicken has been my doctor for about 3 years and all of my experiences with he and his staff have been perfect. He’s helpful, honest and encourages his patients to take personal responsibility for not living a healthy lifestyle.

Overcharges new patients without insurance to establish a relationship with their office. Excess price for a fifteen minute visit without lab work.

I have been a patient of Dr. Hicken's for almost 14 years now. All of my kids were raised under his care as well. I can't think of a better doctor for myself or my family.

I am a new patient and at my first appt. I loved the staff (Dawn) and Dr. Hicken who were thorough. Weeks latter I became really ill and after nights of not being able to sleep I called and the receptionist got me in with Joel right away...who was able to diagnose and get me felling better. Dr. Hicken was my PCP for 9+ years until I moved out of town, and is the best PCP I have ever had. He listens to you, conducts his tests, and clearly explains his conclusions and recommended next steps, often with a few options and the Pros and Cons for each. What sets him apart is that in today's world of over prescribing of both medications and tests, he only does what is needed. I really like Dr. Hicken. I was really worried about having to find a new Dr when we moved here last year. He has seen me and my two daughters and he is very thorough and professional. I was really impressed with his ability to speak to my teenage daughter about personal topics. She felt very comfortable with him and he seemed at ease when she asked questions. The nurses are all very nice and reception is friendly and expedient. No long wait times and they have a clean and comfortable office. I really like Dr. Hicken. I appreciate that he is knowledgeable of the latest test recommendations, and that he avoids prescribing excessive testing that is unlikely to provide good value. However, he makes sure to inform patients of other tests that are available to give them the opportunity to make their own decisions about how much testing to perform. I also appreciate that he uses modern testing equipment, such as a machine for annual blood tests (e.g. cholesterol) that avoids the need for a full blood draw.

These doctors dont handle complex or complicated at all. Seems they just want u to be easy , cold , flu and get out!! And agree with all they say with no opinion of your own !! Don't feel comfortable here at all ..

The doctor is so busy he has some one to type what he says... In front of the patient ! Hicken clinic also does not track or partner when patients are admitted to a hospital. Great first visit. Excellent office staff, facility and Dr.Hicken too of course.

Dr. Hicken and his wonderful staff of caring professionals are wonderful care providers. Visiting the Hicken Clinic is like simply visiting friends. They all care for their patients as if we are family. Their follow-thru with a patient is excellent.

Friendly staff, extremely clean clinic, excellent medical care. Dr. Hicken has been my primary care physician since Jan of '08. I have had a couple health issues along with several orthopedic surgeries and always felt that the staff at Hicken Medical Clinic did their best to provide comprehensive as well as cooperative care.

Best doctor though it can be hard to see him, but his PA's are great too!

I love Dr. Hicken and his office staff. They're efficient while at the same time being informative and thorough. I often see Jarred, one of Dr. Hicken’s P.A.s, who quite frankly seems better qualified than some licensed physicians that I’ve seen in my past.

My whole family sees Dr. Hicken for all of our medical needs and he's the only Dr. that we'll all see. Compassionate and experienced! Love this guy! :)

I was so worried when I lost my primary care provider that I had gone to for more than 10 years. I asked many of my nurse and other medical co-workers who they used and Dr. Hickens office was highly recommended to me. I have seen Dr. Hicken and two of his PA's and loved them all. They seem to have a genuine interest in your health and goals. Their staff is fantastic. They are on top of everything. I can't believe I am saying it but I am happier with Hicken Medical Group than I was with my previous provider and I loved her. I have never felt judged over any medical issues, lets face it sometimes that happens. Completely comfortable with this group. They are very encouraging and have a strong belief in preventative care and that works for me. I was so worried when I lost my primary care provider that I had gone to for more than 10 years. Taking the time to listen and together making a plan to get to the root of the problem is rare in today's medicine. Dr Hicken and his staff do just exactly that.

Best family doctor I've ever seen. They take the time to get to know you, and take general concern in how you feel. Staff was very nice, and I the wait wasn't bad at all. I will definitely refer friends and family.
