Dr Islas is very knowledgeable, kind, personable and compassionate. He provides superior care for patients with hematologic malignancies.

Dr Islas became my Dr when it was discovered that I had myelo fibrosis and would need a bone marrow transplant. He has cared for me for the last 15 yrs. He walked us carefully through the transplant. Kind and understanding, but also very straight forward which I wanted. It was explained that I should have my affairs in order prior to the transplant. The odds were not in my favor. Yet I am still here and healthy thanks to Dr Islas and OHC. I trust him with my health

When I was diagnosed with CLL I was terrified Dr. Islas has made made my journey bearable he is very kind he listens and he reassures me that everything is OK I could not ask for a better doctor.

The wait was over an hour which I have never experienced there before. I really like Dr. Isla-Ohlmayer. He is so nice and explains things well. I always feel taken care of when I leave. I will miss him.

Dr Islas has kept me free from (and in generally good health despite) lymphoma/lymphoma-related tumors after three recurrences over eight years, with Velcade being the most recent (quite effective) weapon of choice, allowing me to get to the point of no longer requiring treatment. His genial personality enables him to tell it like it is, especially if it's not particularly good news; in my case, almost always with encouragement such as "you're a sick well man", meaning, "Yes, you do have a blood cancer with tumors, but you're otherwise healthy enough to beat it." So far, despite my doubts of that sentiment, he's been correct.

Takes his time in addressing all your concerns. He’s very caring and thorough.

Dr Islas is a very professional man. He’s been my Dr since 2010. He’s funny, he’s nice, he’s very caring. Dr Islas is a very good listener as well.

As the spouse of a patient, I really appreciate how thorough Dr Islas is, and his bedside manner is terrific. He takes time to really get to know the patient and adjust treatments accordingly. We are so fortunate to have found OHC. We felt like part of a big family while undergoing BMT. So important to humanize care during cancer treatment!

Dr. Islas takes the time to have conversation about what issues are going on. Never once felt like I did have his attention. He was able to describe things in terms I understood.

He will visit with my wife and I until he is satisfied he has answered all our questions and concerns during appointments! A rare breed and blessing in today’s medical field!

Dr Islas always comes in the room smiling and that immediately puts you at ease. He is a wonderful doctor who goes beyond the normal testing and makes you feel like he is a family member who will take the best care of you.

Dr Miquel Islas-Ohlmayer, MD has been my oncologist at OHC, Kenwood Jewish Hospital for three years. He's compassionate, and caring, willing to provide answers to any questions.

I am a patient at OHC with Dr. Miguel Islas-Ohlmayer. He has taken good care of me over the past 4-5 yrs. I have CLL and I trust him and always feel he has my best health in mind. I must say I would recommend him to my friends and family if they should need an Hematology/ Oncology Physician. But I also pray they don't ever need his services.

My recommendation is NOT schedule to an appointment with Dr. Islas-Ohlmayer He commented on my weight during the first visit. This was first thing he said. No clinical recommendation. No conversation. He just came in and asked, “Are you getting bigger?” Next visit, Dr. Islas-Ohlmayer came in the exam room and said “Didn’t you have a second episode?” I said, “No.” He seemed confused. He discussed my history and which he was incorrect. He washed his hands and shook my hand. Then, I politely and respectfully explained my medical history to him. I proceeded to ask about my stopping my medication regiment. He could not provide me with a timeline or clinical rationale to stop taking the medication. He just said research. He asked if I want to change my medication. He didn’t listen me. He wasn’t listening. I felt like he did not understand me as a patient. I don’t feel like respected or listened to me as a patient. He was not very compassionate or understanding to my situation.

Wonderful, caring doctor. He is top of his field and it tells!

Personable, Brilliant, Thorough

Routine follow-up. Everything pretty much on keel, just getting older.

Pleasant, caring, physician. Invites questions and physician / patient meetings are casual. Second opinion confirmed every aspect of his advice and treatment recommendations.

All I can say is through uncertain circumstances I met Dr. Islas and he's been a Godsend ever since. OHC's staff is always so nice and attentive.

A visit with Dr. Islas is always a pleasant experience. He reviews the blood work results unhurriedly and always ask for questions.

Yes I would recommend Dr. Islas-Ohlmayer (or just "Islas"), who is a very nice gentleman with a good sense of humor and a good "bedside" (actually, "in-office") manner. He really listens and gives good explanations at a level I can understand. He motivates me to do research, which is often at forehead-level (not quite over my head) but valuable. Unlike some doctors, he's never in a rush to "just get this visit over with." In 2015, he helped me get through the rather difficult stem cell transplant that gave me 4 years of excellent health that ended in spring 2020. His well-selected treatment caused two very large abdominal tumors to vanish and to bring my "Free Lambda Light Chains" (protein) level from a ludicrous initial 2500 (max is under 100) down to normal range, both in under six months of "targeted therapy" for which I'm now on a rather low "maintenance dose" that he has reducing twice because of my low but significant intolerance of it. In short, I trust him with my life.

I’ve been a patient of Dr. Islas for a little over a year. He has always made intelligent, informed, and correct calls with my testing/treatment. He gives you time to gather your thoughts and to formulate questions. Answers all questions thoroughly and in a way that is easily understood and followed. Has a very calming presence. He didn't seem very interested in actually trying to figure out my diagnosis. He, and his nurse, are not able to be contacted outside of an office visit, to answer any kind of question at all.
