Dr. Patel and his team at NM made handled my Achilles surgery with ease and made me feel comfortable the entire time from initial consultation to post-op. You are in great hands with Dr. Patel. I broke my leg in a rock climbing accident and it was extremely scary as I had never broken a bone before, been to the ER before, and now I had a major injury. I had also never had surgery before. It was a scary experience but knew I was in great hands. He worked extremely hard to make sure I could get into surgery as quickly as possible so I wasn't on crutches for longer than I needed to be. Being injured during a pandemic is a crazy experience and one I thought I would never face (especially for a first time injury). His team made many adjustments to ensure the safety of us during that time (most of my treatments were in March / April 2020... so during lockdown). He personally called me to explain how we were going to handle the situation and made sure I was still given great care. I felt as though they handled the situation with caution to ensure everyone was safe, even with so many unknowns. After my recovery I am now running several miles, walking many miles, hiking, doing HIIT workouts and much more. I am basically back to my old routine and fitness level, (minus the things that the pandemic won't let me try again yet). My injury was a year ago but I was back to walking after several months, and running after approx. 6. I'm sorry for anyone who has to experience this kind of injury but you will get through it and things will get better. You are in great hands with Dr. Patel. Dr Patel and his staff are the finest team you can have help you! My mom was on a ventilator with COVID-19 in March. It was a miracle she survived! While getting ready to transport from the a Hospital to Shirley Ryan Ability Lab mom broke her knee. She finally made it home at the end of May and after months of waiting for her knee to heal, she began to walk. Suddenly one morning she woke up tried to walk to her bathroom slipped and fell breaking the ankle and bone in the same leg where the knee was just healing. Devastated and in pain after being treated at the ER, she saw Dr Patel and his team of professionals. All from the reception up to Dr Patel were very nice and caring. She was terrified to be at the hospital setting again, but Dr Patel weigh everything, took ample time in deciding the treatment and was very honest with her. Today, after doing all Dr Patel said to do, mom is beginning to walk again and started therapy. God bless Dr Patel and the whole group of professionals at Northwestern! I’ve been seeing Dr Patel since 2019 when I broke mr ankle. He and his entire team are fantastic. They are very prompt, kind, and empathic. It’s very hard going through multiple surgeries, but the doctor and his team make the process as easy and comfortable as possible.

Dr. Milap Patel is ethical and extremely skilled in his work. Before I visited Dr. Patel I was counseled by numerous ‘experts’ in private practice. They prescribed ineffective orthotics and temporary solutions that were expensive and didn’t solve the underlying issue. Unfortunately, some of the prescribed ‘solutions’ made the situation worse. Dr. Patel evaluated me in 2019 and carefully noted the symptoms and issues. Most importantly he had the experience and skill to diagnose my problem. He plainly laid out the facts and options for me to consider. His level of expertise invites trust and partnership. He is a true professional wearing a suit to every visit. Happy to report I’m well on the road to recovery now. If you have a foot or ankle issue I recommend booking Dr. Patel before he becomes so well known that he’s unavailable. I saw Dr Patel to repair a ruptured achilles. I liked him from the initial office visit. He was patient and answered all of my questions. We spent time on the phone one evening going through my options - he wanted to make sure I had all of the information I needed to make my decision. The day of surgery, he again explained things and it went well. My follow ups were similar. When I went to PT, they said that they had never seen a doctor give such detailed instructions on what he wanted me to accomplish by certain milestones. I am convinced that this helped me work with the therapist to heal faster. The outcome of the surgery is that I am back to new - after one year my achilles is healed and I can do all of my former activities - hiking and biking. I am an active person so it was important that I get back to what I could do before. I highly recommend Dr Patel for his calm manner and for the results. I feel that he genuinely cared about me and making my life better.

Just wrapped up my final visit with Dr. Patel & team after a total ankle replacement. I had a bad car accident when I was a teenager (now I am 50) and struggled with my ankle nearly all of my adult life. Given that history my case was complex and it got really bad last few years to where I struggled to even walk around the house without crutches or assistance. Dr. Patel truly gave me my life back. It was a tough recovery with lots of physical therapy but he was very honest and upfront about that. I had no other options... I am now pain free, with no limp / unnatural gait to my walk. It is the best I have felt in 30+ years. Dr. Patel is amazing. Surgical skills are top notch from my experience. He is direct and I appreciate that very much.

I've never had surgery before, so the entire process was worrisome and frightening until he spoke to me on surgery day. He looked down at my ankle, right before we were going to go in, and he said "Right here, this is ALL I do." and made a gesture showing the space below my knee to the end of my foot. I just had my one year appointment today, and was awarded a 100% full recovery. This man is fantastic at his craft, and if possible you need to use his talents to your benefit. Milap is who you want. I've been working with Dr. Patel for several months now. He has provided me with the best answers possible to my injuries, and he has offered multiple treatment options. He respected my decisions, and he encouraged me to get second opinions prior to surgery. I truly value his opinions and treatments! You are in good hands with Dr. Patel!

Dr. Patel is by far the best orthopedic surgeon. In 2014, I was in a car accident and fractured my talus bone. A surgeon from Christ repaired the bone by putting in screws and plates. I have had terrible pain since the accident and started having trouble walking. I had xrays showing the talus bone died due to lack of blood flow. I saw two orthopedic surgeons prior to meeting Dr. Patel. One from UIC and the other from Loyola, both saying that I would have to amputate my foot and gave me no other option. I then met Dr. Patel who was extremely knowledgable and he was very compassionate about my case. He was very thorough and took the time to explain the surgery and post procedure. My surgery took over 15 hours which consisted of replacing the talus with cadaver bone re-routing the arteries and veins, and a skin graft. No matter what I could always get in touch with Dr Patel or staff by email or phone with quick response. Now I am able to walk pain free and completely normal.

After the initial shock of breaking my ankle in 4 places, I was very lucky to find the best ankle surgeon at NW. With an unexpected sudden accident, I had to put all my trust and faith in Dr. Patel and his highly experienced team. With 16 screws and 3 plates to repair my ankle, Dr. Patel is a first-in-class surgeon. He is calm, confident, trusted and supports you every step of the year-long recovery process. My recovery was tough due to the severity of the break; but I am fully recovered. He was always on-time for my appointments. Milap's talents as a surgeon and doctor is what makes NW's orthopedic department shine.

Dr Milap Patel did my Lisfranc fracture surgery and I couldn’t be happier with him, his staff at Northwestern and my results. He is knowledgeable, kind and very calm which immediately instills confidence. He truly listens, answers every question and I never felt rushed. I highly recommend him.

The word genius is not even a good enough word to describe Dr. Patel, he is a MIRACLE worker. Two months ago, I walked into his office with a terrible sprained ankle and a severe case of drop foot. I thought I had a little sprained ankle but due to the inability to feel my leg found out the severity. Dr. Patel called in favors to get me in for testing and to see Dr. Ko a nerve plastic surgeon with an extended wait time. He knew what was causing my rare issue and knew if left untreated my 39 year old body could fail me for a long time to come. He explained to me what would happen and what I could expect. After test results came back, he called me at 6 am to discuss the results because he knew it was his only opening that day and I was a priority. He is kind, generous, amazing a wonderful human, all while being exceptional at his job! Because of him, I am walking two months after the injury! He changed my life and I will be forever grateful. Dr. Patel got me back to running in 4 months after fixing my broken ankle. He put my broken bones together with plates and screws and repaired my ligaments. He has great bedside manners and explained everything in detail before and after the surgery. He is the best!

He was patient and listened to my concerns and did not push me into a decision. I had surgery to repair my Achilles and everything went well! Dr. Patel was kind and quick to take action to surgically repair my broken ankle, 2 plates and tendon repair. I experienced no pain (after initial operative pain) and now 4 months out am back to regular exercise and am starting to run again. Like others have said, he is thorough and installs the hardware in a manner that will facilitate a fully functioning life after repair. I have had the best experience with this surgical repair. Dr. Patel is an excellent surgeon and a very nice guy. He takes time to explain things to you so that you are able to make informed decisions, and does so in a friendly easy to understand manner. Dr. Patel handled my difficult Ankle Fusion surgery and my aftercare with true professionalism, despite a minor setback of my own doing. He was very thorough in updating me about my condition and how I was progressing. I felt that between Dr. Patel, and his physician assistant Andrea, we were a team working together to fix me. I've never had surgery before so I was very apprehensive about getting surgery after a sudden injury, an appointment with an orthopedic surgeon 2 days later, and surgery 2 days after that. It was a whirlwind that could have been horrible, but Dr. Patel made the process as smooth as it could be. Dr. Patel (and his staff) put me at ease, were straightforward and compassionate, and I really felt respected as a patient. He shifted his schedule around to accommodate me 4 days after my injury to fit my surgery in, he explained everything (worse case, best case) prior to the surgery and I felt as prepared as I could be. He saw me personally at all my follow up appointments, listened to me, answered all my questions, with my goal of getting back to normal as soon as possible. While I hope no one ever has to get surgery, I highly recommend him. If I suffered a similar issue again, I would go back to him in a heartbeat.

I moved to Chicago and broke my ankle when I landed at ORD! I have a very complicated medical history due to other surgeries to the lower half of my body. Dr. Patel took those all into consideration when designing my treatment plan and subsequent surgery. I am very pleased with the outcome and highly recommend him!

Dr. Patel and his team lead Andrea are amazing. I had a surgery with a three month recovery period and I was nervous. They made me feel comfortable, communicated clearly and openly and the results of the surgery are perfect. Dr. Patel so obviously cares about his patients and his work. Highly recommend!

He's an arrogant guy, did the surgery fine, but made wait 45+ minutes for 2 out of 3 follow ups.

I had a terrible ankle fracture that Dr. Patel ended up fixing with plates and screws. He also repaired my ligaments. It has been 4 months since my surgery and I am back to running! I highly recommend you see him if you have an ankle fracture!

3 years, 6 doctors, thousands of dollars in custom ortho Inserts, all misdiagnosing me with planters faciatis. Dr Patel was the 1st doctor who actually listened to me and agreed there was a bigger problem. He saved my feet and I could not be happier. He is an amazing dr. His PA Andrea is also the best. Knew right away I had a stress fracture even when I had gone to Urgent Care and they had said I didn’t have one. Was efficient, easy to schedule, and had great recommendations. Would recommend to others

Dr. Patel is awesome. His practice is quick and visits are efficient, and I'm so glad I went to him after injuring my ankle. He is very responsive and answered questions outside of office hours, which was really helpful. My visits were always straightforward and clear, and he did a great job of describing things to look out for in the future. His staff is friendly, there's an x-ray down the hall, and the office runs on time (which is always important).

I wish he spent more time with his patients. I felt like I was rushed. He did quickly diagnose what was going on though.

I came in to see Dr. Patel for a second opinion for an ankle replacement surgery. The staff was incredible and Dr. Patel explained everything with great detail and spent a significant amount of time with me. I eneded up having the surgery with him and my ankle has never felt better!

I had a wonderful experience with Dr. Patel. After many years of dealing with the pain I was getting tired of going to different doctors. One of my relatives recommended I see Dr. Patel and I am so glad I did. He discussed the different options I had and what the outcomes of each of those choices would be. He was very thoughtful and thorough. He went over expectations and what the recovery process would entail. He was very knowledgeable and caring throughout the whole process.

I had toe surgery with Dr. Patel in July 2018. Dr. Patel is an excellent surgeon. He was very thorough regarding explaining my various options before and after the surgery. He helped me understand what to expect during my recovery and follow-up. He was very open, and took the time during each visit to answer my questions Dr. Patel is a caring individual, and I felt very comfortable working with him. I had an excellent outcome to my surgery. Dr. Patel is an excellent doctor. He is a genius when it comes to repairing foot and ankle fracture and injuries. He is very knowledgable and compassionate. I was involved in a car accident and suffered a terrible ankle fracture. His office staff was extremely helpful. He sat down and explained my injuries and surgery in detail. After 3 plates and a dozen screws in my ankle, I am back to functioning normally. I can not thank him enough and glad I found him as my doctor!
