Dr. Neda Ashourian

I had a very bad experience with Dr. Ashourian. I was her patient for many years, but will find a new dermatologist.

I have gone to Dr. Ashourian for at least 5 years, but cannot continue. I had a disturbing visit to her office this week. I have had Mohs treatment before, but this was different. Both the doctor and her new assistant were rude. When I asked a question, the doctor said that this was not her first rodeo and asked if I was not confident in their work. When I asked my question again, Dr. A. sounded angry and defensive and again asked if I was questioning their competence. I did not try to communicate again with her during the procedure as I was afraid her mood might affect the surgery. I have seen her temper flare in the past, but not at me. This episode of intemperate behavior made me realize that I cannot go back to this office.

I have been Dr Ashourian’s patient for over 6 years. She has done two MOHS procedures and removed many skin tags. She takes great care to minimize scars and sent me to a plastic surgeon to close the more difficult defect on my nose. (That surgeon really performed a miracle and you can barely see the scar.) These two procedures happened during an extremely stressful time in my life—I was just diagnosed with breast cancer and having my first MOHS a week before my lumpectomy. She is a terrible surgeon with even a worse bedside manner. How about a little courtesy, empathy, taking time with her patients. She was an inhibitor of healing.

I’ve been going to Dr Neda Ashourian for over 5 years. Now that I’m not working in Chicago I drive an hour and a half to see her - which is more than worth it. She is a brilliant physician, but she’s also kind and empathetic. So many dermatologists are backing out of the room as you’re still talking - or they remove moles/SK’s/AK’s with what seems like major carelessness, leaving (what I believe to be) needlessly large scars behind. Dr Neda Ashourian will address any area of concern with caution and takes ample time to educate me with the ‘why’ behind why something should be addressed at that time or not. Further, she doesn’t nickle-and-dime like other dermatologists in my experience have. Example: other derms state they will only freeze off a limit of 5 spots and then you have to make another appointment for any others. She doesn’t do this. She does what’s necessary. And I trust her. I’ve referred no less than 9 patients to her and they’ve all sung her praises afterward (including my parents!). Dr. Ashourian is very detailed and thorough, she can spot the problem areas and will have an answer for the other questionable spots or irritations. I feel very confidant that there is nothing lurking to surprise me after her checkups.

When I needed a biopsy and treatment of a melanoma, Dr. Ashourian treated me with kindness, compassion, professionalism and urgency during my brush with melanoma. She actually went the extra mile to make sure the aesthetic of my thigh was not negatively impacted by the removal of my cancerous mole. (Details below!) I was referred to her by my plastic surgeon (who randomly saw the cancerous mole while I was getting botox) for the removal of a Stage 0 melanoma. Throughout the entire process, she was comforting and explained everything to me (my condition, the procedure, aftercare, etc.) clearly. The cancerous mole was on my right thigh, and the wound site was HUGE. She literally had to cut a huge diamond out of my leg. She knew that I was concerned about scarring / the aesthetic and took extra care to make sure she mitigated any bad scarring. I had some concerns re: my stitches as they started to dissolve (just natural concerns as I haven't had many stitches in my life) and she was SO communicative by text. She was there for me even after office hours. She was an absolutely amazing bright spot in a really scary time in my life, and I know that if she ever sees anything else on one of my regular check ups, I will be in good hands once again. I have had three dermatologists over the past 25 years and have found Dr. Ashourian to be the best, by a wide margin. I find her to be well informed, candid and efficient. Her credentials and her genuine concern for patients is beyond reproach.

She was so rude to me! Embarrassed me! Thought more about herself vs. her patient, me. she was not very thorough for a skin check and I have already had a skin Cancer. Her partner on the other hand is excellent: Dr. Jean-Christophe Lapiere, MD

Dr Ashourian was wonderful. She put me at easy right away. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Dr Ashourian did a great job removing the skin cancer from my face. It’s 4 days ago and looks great. Very little pain involved. I would strongly recommend Dr Ashourian.

Had a disturbing incident at this office yesterday. Been going to this practice for several years and have had good experience with Dr Ashourian up until yesterday. Waited 35 min. in a gown with no communication as to when the doctor was coming in and this was after waiting in the waiting room 15 min. I gave up waiting and as I was about to leave the exam room Dr. Ashourian came in, instead of apologizing for being so late, she snapped at me for leaving. Not acceptable behavior.

Somewhat recently the practice has gone from 4 dermatologists down to 2, consequently the 2 doctors are trying to see as may of the patients from the other 2 doctors that maybe coming to the practice. Consequently Dr. Ashourian no longer has time for her patients like she once did. She is spreading herself too thin. This caused her to over treat me during a procedure. .

Every year I have myself examined mostly for basel cell carcinoma growths. Dr. Ashourian was on time, very thorough, friendly. Non-rushed. I had the freedom to ask any questions I had. With my agreement she used liquid nitrogen on a few growths I had. North Michigan Ave. office is close to the Chicago St. Red Line stop. A very good experience.
