I've had 2 surgeries performed by Dr. Orfanou. A Gallbladder surgery in 2010 and Inguinal hernia in 2022. She’s an excellent surgeon. I highly recommend Dr. Orfanou.

I would like to preface this with I have never left a bad review but bc this is the medical field, I believe this is important. I wanted to like Dr. Orfanou. I got in quickly, my initial consult was quick and to the point. At the end I was scheduled for surgery in under 2 weeks. All really great. Day of surgery things ran behind but emergency’s happen so no worries. Dr. Orfanou did not go speak with my boyfriend in the waiting room to let him know how surgery went. She did not speak with me to let me know how the surgery went. No one did. All I know is the surgery was performed bc I have the wound and pain to prove it. Dr. Orfanou gave no one any discharge instructions for me. So I was sent home with only the advice to take it easy for a day and not drive for 24 hrs to get the anesthesia out of my system. Everything seemed fine with my incision for a few days but I wasn’t doing anything to it other than keeping the area dry bc I wasn’t told to. About a week in my wound began reopening. I sat up and there was blood and wetness on my bed. I had my mom look at it and she said the incision looked like it was getting infected. So we used gauze and tape to hold it over. Each day it looked worse and needed to be “drained”. When I called the office they said just to keep my appt as scheduled with Orfanou and she will handle everything. Now fast forward to my post op visit. I’m excited bc Dr. Orfanou will be able to help and I will get back on track to truly healing. As I pass her and the other female doc I hear them complaining about post op visits that take longer than 5 minutes. I get nervous bc I know I’m about to be that person. When Orfanou walked in she was pleasant. Asked how I was healing and I attempted to tell her what was happening...the woman rolled her eyes. ROLLED HER EYES and did not listen. She has me lay on the table so she can look at the incision site. She states “ this looks good, this is what we want to see.” I’m relieved thinking all the work I’ve done to drain and keep this incision covered was helpful. But I also don’t believe her bc of how uncomfortable it still is to move and how much I drained from my wound the night before. She said all I need to do is keep it dry. If I felt it was necessary, I could put an over the counter antibiotic ointment on it. I left feeling a mix of comfort and concern. When I get off work the same day I have my mom look at the incision. It is red, raised, infected, and draining...none of which “look good.” Now a whole week later my incision site has reopened, I have a hole you could put your whole thumb in and it’s quite deep as well. Between my mom and I we are trying to fix my leg and keep the infection from spreading. Orfanou is useless. Obviously she must do some things well bc she is still a practicing physician...but do not see her for minor procedures. She does not care about you. I would like to preface this with I have never left a bad review but bc this is the medical field, I believe this is important. I wanted to like Dr. Orfanou. I got in quickly, my initial consult was quick and … More

It was never my wish to have surgery, let alone to get my first surgery done in the middle of a pandemic. To top it off, the hospital had just enforced a no visitor policy. Someone I knew underwent a complicated surgery that proved to be successfully done by Dr. Orfanou. Because of this known fact, I choose to go with Dr. Orfanou as my surgeon. I never doubted her ability, I was just highly anxious about the whole ordeal. The pre-surgical experience proved to be highly unpleasant due to the Ascension nursing staff. Two of the nurses offended me deeply by not listening to me or acknowledging my request to be poked just once for the IV, drew blood for lab work that had already been completed, and failed to keep me in the loop and update me for the reason for my procedure delay (turned out to be 2 hours after scheduled time - and I found out when it was time when the OR staff came to get me). Thus, leading up to the surgery, I was alone, in the dark, scared and frustrated, and extremely anxious. Around 3 pm, everyone from the OR who would be working beside Dr. Orfanou, and Dr. Orfanou herself, came by. Everyone from the surgery team was very friendly and really nice. They introduced themselves, they explained what was about to happen, and as a sweet bonus gesture, they tried to put me at ease :) There was one resident in particular whose name I cannot recall, who actually sat down next to me and spared some time to offer a listening ear, talk and answer some of my questions, basically providing some much-needed company and friendship. It was like a breath of fresh air compared to the prior experience I had with the nurses, which at the time had led me to conclude that receiving care at Ascension Health, much to the dismay of the passenger, was comparable to the driver being asleep behind the wheel. As far as the procedure itself, everything went well and my surgery was a success. Because of the excellent care I received from the OR team and Dr. Orfanou, the people who mattered the most here, I do not have regrets about choosing a different health system, i.e. Michigan Medicine, for my care. Dr. Orfanou is an expert in her field, she cares immensely about her patients, and by choosing her as your surgeon, you WILL be in good, competent, experienced, and able hands. During my one week post-op visit, I told her all about my experience with the nurses during pre-op and she listened patiently and attentively. She even took names! Dr. Orfanou advocates for her patients, she goes the distance, and she's solution-driven. For a quality surgeon who genuinely cares and will tell you the real deal, look no further. Thanks for reading my review. I hope this helps you out! I wish you all the best! PS I was advised by the pharmacist at Kroger to wash with Hibiclens when I asked about dial soap versus body wash at the counter. I ordered it on Amazon for a better price, and I did shower with Hibiclens the night before and the morning of. I am now almost 3 weeks post-op, recovering fine, with no signs of infection or any other incision issues. It was never my wish to have surgery, let alone to get my first surgery done in the middle of a pandemic. To top it off, the hospital had just enforced a no visitor policy. This Dr. Orfanou is a liar. This doctor hasn't any confindence in her own ability as a surgeon. She initially scheduled to perform my surgery in Dec. 2020 and three days before surgery was suppose to happen she said it's too complicated and would could have many complications. So the surgery was cancelled. Weeks later she posted in my file that she told me she wanted me to see her team of oncologist, we she never said a thing to me about that. Don't trust this quack. Also my reviews keep getting deleted. Do yourself a favor find a different doctor.

I think it is interesting that I have posted about our time with Dr. Orfanou, only to have our posts deleted. I can see why after my husband died due to her lack of care. Much like the others who gave a one star .... the difference is they live and my husband does not. She does not even have the decency to have ever contacted me for her negligence.

Dr Orfanou was great! It was my first surgery, but she made me feel at ease. The staff is always friendly and accommodating. I would recommend her to anyone.

Terrible bedside manner. She was subbing for my first choice of surgeon without my knowledge. She entered my room, didn't introduce herself, just started talking treatments, then left. She came back an hour later and changed the treatment plan to surgery because an opening in the OR occurred. I refused her services and chose a board certified GI surgeon. I ran into her and her PAs on numerous occasions during my recovery and none of them would even make eye contact with me. I consider mysel

I've had 3 surgeries performed by Dr. Orfanou. A bowel resection with ileostomy. Reversal of the ileostomy and reattachment of the colon. The third procedure for a abdominal hernia. Recovery has been very successful and went just as the Dr. described. Her bedside manner is what i've appreciated the most. She is very caring and understanding and seems to appriciat6e the pain that i was in. I would not hesitate to refer or have additional procedures performed by her.

I was referred to Dr. Orfanou by my primary care physician for analysis and treatment of a lump located near my LH armpit. I cannot say enough nice things about Dr. Orfanou. Starting with my initial visit, she was professional, kind, and caring. She answered my questions thoroughly. Dr. Orfanou ordered an ultrasound after which she performed surgery to remove fatty tissue from my chest area. She visited me in the hospital before/after surgery and followed up with how I was healing later on.

Poor communication, poor care. Surgeon ignored multiple complaints of extremity pain. Ended up going to Beaumont following surgery. Had blood clot and infection. Orfanou didn't even examine me or touch me for follow-up visit. Downplayed extremity pain. Thankfully I chose to go to a different provider who payed attention to my pain.
