I saw this man at Abbott house. His way is more than just a bad bedside manner, its mental abuse. He was very disrespectful towards patients and is very mean. He seems to have a stigma towards the patients and a prejudice and makes it seems like its a bad thing they are seeking treatment and have mental illnesses. Can be very hostile towards patients. I was shocked how he treated me. Now I know who the psychiatrist in Deerfield is that I had heard who is very disrespectful and unhelpful and cold and mean. Avoid and report if you feel this man has crossed the line and is causing psychological harm to patients.

The most brilliant doctor I've ever met, Dr. Costa understands psychiatry like no one else I've heard of. Dr. Costa doesn't guess--he knows how to get the diagnosis, identify which meds will and will not work, how to titrate meds, which generic manufacturers should or should not be used. He is a remarkable doctor, ranked in the top 5% of psychiatrists in the nation, and likely in all countries.

I agree—a genius, and a gift!!!! He is a beautiful soul of a man in that he so patient, kind and genuinely interested. His intellect is incredible. An attentive listener, he cares about what happens to me and offers real feedback. His methodical approach to diagnosis and prescribing an effective treatment is incredibly thourough and scientific. I don’t know why everyone in his profession isn’t doing it this same way. He knows his stuff because he is responsible for a lot of the research.

I met Dr. Costa as a special needs foster parent. I fostered and later adopted a 5 yr old boy. 20 yrs ago the DSM had no diagnosis for my boy. Dr. Costa dedicated himself to determine what my son's issues were, and to treat them. He also educated me. Long before they were diagnosing pre pubertal children with bi polar disorder he knew what was happening. He saved my son's life. Thoughtfully prescribed meds, thoroughly cared for my son's wellness and well being. Not too mention the dedication to our family for more than 15 yrs. He's the BEST ! He has changed my daughters quality of life so much for the better. There is nobody like him. His is so nice. And his knowledge of the brain is so valuable. God Bless Him

We had two appointments with Dr. Costa in 2016 for my 8 year old son. His diagnosis was generally on track, however we have been trying to schedule a follow up and have been unable to reach anyone in his office or get a return phone call. I have left 5-6 messages over the past several months. We paid a large amount of money for some genetic testing, and we never received the test results. We are extremely disappointed in Dr. Costa's follow through on our son's treatment.
