Raymond W Grundmeyer III

Dr Grundmeyer performed a cervical fusion on me in 2018. This now needs revision. I can’t lift my right arm. I have a referral to Dr G - my CT is done, EMG is done, MRI done. I call his office and they tell me they will call me back to make my first appointment. I was referred Jan 9, and wasn’t called back until feb 8th. Something is wrong with Dr Grundmeyer’s office. It’s a nightmare dealing with them from a patient’s perspective. My first appointment is now scheduled, 3 months from now. 4 months from the date I was referred. In the meantime I’m just walking around with broken metal hardware in my neck.

When Dr. Mellion retired, I was concerned who would care for my spinal issues moving forward. I switched to Dr. Grundmeyer and found his care to be exceptional. His surgical skills are excellent and his ability to put his patients at ease is amazing. Thank you for a great experience. See you again soon for the next surgery!

A 1 star ?? rating is too high. Three years ago, 12/1, I had a laminectomy surgery by Grundmeyer. Nerves were cut during the surgery. On my right side, now I have permanent nerve damage and chronic pain. Since that surgery I have balance problems resulting in several falls. Again since the surgery ; a broke leg and foot, concussions, torn tendons and many more surgeries to come. All this pain and precious time lost because of one doctors arrogance. He’s never taken responsibility for his actions. He is a coward. This has been a huge impact on my family and friends. What this man has done is a living nightmare. I hope and pray no one else has to go through this.

Dr. Grundmeyer Is the best spinal surgeon in Wichita it's because he likes his job and takes pride in his work. He always does the best of his abilities. Also he's nice and compassionate which isn't always the case with surgeons.

I accompanied my dad for an consultation have waited over an hour from when his appointment was scheduled. Tried to ask staff about how much longer it would take to be seen because I have a child to pick up from school and the assistant at the counter was rude and didn't want to be bothered. Very frustrating when you're hurting, it hurts to sit or stand and you've been waiting over an hour. I have heard this dr is supposed to be good but staff leaves a lot to be desired. My son is at KU in Kansas City right now fighting for his life, a fight that looks like he will probably loose, the week of September 15th we noticed that our son was having what looked like shunt problems, tests were run, Grundmyer looked at them, ordered a CT, then diagnosed nothing wrong with him, to see primary care physician, tried to get into primary care, she wouldn't see him until 3weeks later, in the meantime, we saw, pulmonologist because of breathing problems, found another primary care physician, and contacted Grundmeyrs office again to report still having problems, was told nothing wrong with shunts, see primary care physician. We finally did get another primary care physician, she saw us on the 28th of September, got us a apt with neurosurgeon in Kansas City for 2nd opinion, saw her October 22, my son was immediately admitted to ICU at KU due to severe shut infection, plural effusion where the shunt catheter drained, and meningitis. We waited over a month for help for our child, all because a Dr couldn't take the parents word that something was wrong and investigate further what it might be, now it looks like we will probably loose our son, treatment is failing, whole brain is infected. I am more angry than I probably have been in all my life, he should not be this sick, if only a Egotistical Dr. would have listened to us, now this same Dr. who thinks he is God has probably cost us our sons life. Do not take your child here if they have a VP shunt. First my daughter had a shunt infection, and part of the tubing was left in (which our new surgeon said is a big No no). After almost a month in the hospital we finally get out, she has her check up and says we don’t need to come back for any checks unless she is having a hard time, which I thought was weird because after hours of research, pediatric patients should have yearly checks on their VP shunts. A few weeks later my daughter starts showing signs of her shunt failing. Grundmeyers care people NEVER returned my phone calls (I called multiple times). She ended up being life flighted to children’s mercy because her shunt had failed. So do yourself a favor, if you have a child who needs a neurosurgeon, make the three hour drive and get one who is an actual pediatric one. Do not take your child here if they have a VP shunt. This guy is Amazing. I meant to write him a letter expressing my thanks to him personally, over a decade ago. I owe much of my life to his expertise and care in the operating room. I couldn’t remember his name, but for whatever reason it popped in my head last night before falling asleep. Thanks a million.

Had a motorcycle wreck in September, got me into surgery very quickly,had broken spine and several ribs.was up walking around hospital physical therapy next day.been 8 weeks and feel great, back is actually straighter then it was due to car accidents and being concrete laborer for many years. I would have to agree best neurosurgeon in Wichita, he also followed up by ordering mri on lower back due to sciatica in leg. Following a recent referral for critical spinal surgery ,hospitalization and post operative rehabilitation, it was apparent Dr. Grundmeyer and his team so far surpass excellence as to truly humble oneself during a medical crisis. Dr. Grundmeyer's impeccable medical credentials ,years of experience, and reputation only outline this providers medical brilliance, surgical skills, and personal focus on my critical condition. Pain had reduced me to a demoralized and spiritually empty vessile, yet within minutes of meeting with Dr. Grundmeyer I actually felt not only hope and reassurance but a wave of compassion and empathy radiating from him. Complex surgery ensued, and a characteristic period of recovery is now underway. I vividly recall being awakened in recovery despite being awash in medication at 4AM and seeing Dr. Grundmeyer at my bedside evaluating my status . The man CARES. Dr. Grundmeyer SAVED MY LIFE. Let him do the same for YOU.

Nice doctor, has good bedside manner but if you are in need of a neurosurgeon for your child, please go somewhere else. Get a referral to a pediatric neurosurgeon. I wish I would have sooner, but my pediatrician at the time, would never refer me. I just listened to and did whatever she recommended. Big mistake. I often wonder how much better my child’s cognitive abilities would be if I would have went somewhere else. Patients like my child, who have hydrocephalus and a vp shunt, are supposed to have an appointment once a year with their neurosurgeon. Dr. Grundmeyer told me to come once a year if I wanted to. He said that a CT once a year was a lot of radiation for my child. So unless something was wrong, I didn’t schedule any appointments. But if something was off, and I tried to contact Dr. Grundmeyer, his care coordinators were HORRIBLE about returning phone calls. In fact, the last time I called, I left voicemails for Jessica and Marla telling them that my child was not doing well and neither of them would call me back. I’ve heard from other patients that they do the same thing to them too. After that, I had enough, and I took my child to a new neurosurgeon. Right away, they ordered a rapid MRI (no radiation so already more advanced than what Grundmeyer would order) and they found a very large cyst on my child’s brain. I am disgusted with the lack care my child received here. I can only hope that one day Jessica and Marla, his care coordinator’s, are never sick and have to beg for medical attention like we have. I saw Dr.prrop on February 25 and have not heard from him since. The nurses at my rehab facility tried to reach him multiple times but calls were never returned. Late May he sent out someone to perform xrats xrays but never personally received any reports.. I would desperately like to speak to Dr. Regarding follow-up care and answers about the problems I am still suffering and how to move forward. I am frightened by my current situation and lack of physical disabilities. I am being released from r e ha b the first frid2 of June and am still in a wheelchair not close to walking. Great dr. Who truly cares

Dr. Grundmeyer and his team are top notch. Husbands surgery was a 100% improvement.. thank you Dr. Grundmeyer.

Dr. Grundmeyer saved my life. Excellent bedside manor, and you can tell he really cares about his patients. I wish I could thank him enough for what he’s given me.

Dr Grundmeyer is extremely competent and knowledgeable. He has operated on me twice (one spinal injury and removed a brain tumor) Both surgeries left me without pain and I will never use another Neuro-surgeon.

Had back surgery in late June 2019 (ALIF, but also accessed through my back). I was back at work in 8 weeks and at 3 months, I'm back working out (mindful of letting my body tell me when I'm doing too much). I never had any pain from the surgery and took no pain meds (because they made me sick). The worst part is wearing the heavy and hot back brace. I did not see Dr. Grundmeyer much, except for my initial meeting and right before the surgery. I was told he was the best and I must agree judging from my results. I also have to give praise to Dr. Brent Lancaster who did the front incision and moved my internal organs. In my opinion Dr. Grundmeyer is the best Neurosurgeon in the Wichita area. He operated on my back in June of this year when so many were unwilling to touch me and the surgery was very successful. I had one finger with a problem; after surgery the entire hand was useless. He claimed he did nothing wrong. Final appointment lasted 15 seconds, and he brusquely ended the relationship.

Dr Grundmeyer is the best neurosurgeon I have ever had and I have seen many. My pain went from a 15 on a 10 point scale before surgery to a 4 by the time i left the rehab hospital a month later. He listens, treated me like a colleague in my care, was thorough in explaining nature of the surgery(I had plate and screws installed). My only complaints were with a nurse in the doctor owned hospital who caused me potentially difficult problems. He dealt with it.

Simply the best around

Dr Grundmeyer has done many of my sons surgeries and is one of the few I trust.

Dr Grundmeyer operated on my lower back Dec 1, 2016, this ended several years of me having constant pain. I only wish I had gone to this Dr years ago. Calls to his office staff have been answered right away, and the staff has always treated me very professionally.

My wife and I have both entrusted our back surgeries to Dr Grundmeyer. He is, needless to say, very much in demand and it might take a while to gain an appointment, but the results are more than worth the wait. His manner of interacting with both patients and family members is second to none. His surgical skills are simply amazing! He goes the extra mile to solve the problem and is not a doctor who operates without a valid reason. If he can't help you he will say so. Norton & Delia Jackson

I am a retired RN having work 49 years full time. 20 years in surgery in a Level 1 Trauma Center having done Neuro cases. Dr. Grundmeyer III is absolutely the best neurosurgeon in the Midwest. He did my back surgery with NO complications. This is your doctor for the best outcome you can expect. Team Grundmeyer Jessica, Cathy RN and Stacey APNP are absolutely wonderful to work with. I would never let Orthopedics do my back surgery. I have a lot of neurosurgeons to compare him to. He's #1.

The surgery was excellent, but the follow-up care was not good.

Dr Grundmeyer is awesome. But the nurses need some work . Not very organized

Dr. Grundmeyer performed back surgery on my 76 year old father. 2 months later my father continued to have a lot of pain, an MRI showed fluid and swelling. His local doctor told him to contact the surgeon and be seen right away.15 days have past calling two or three times a week requesting an appointment. No response, no referral to another specialist. The fluid is building in the area where the surgery was performed. I would not recommend AT ALL this surgeon.

Had a hospital follow up after an accident. Called the office 3x( had to leave voice recording each time) to get a n appt. Finally on the fourth call (and another voice recording) I received a return call and got an appointment and was informed that a ct scan was needed before appt. She indicated that they would set it up and call me back. After waiting one week I called twice again and left messages that I needed the ct scan. Called twice again on the Monday before the Wed. appt. Still no return call. Finally the day before @ 9:30 am (Tue) I received a call to confirm the Wed. appt. I asked when the ct scan was going to be done as per their request. She said that someone from the office would call me back. When called back I was asked if going to the west side would be better for me, I said yes , then the orders were to be sent over for the scan and I was suppose to call the west side and made the appt. and so that it could be completed before the 9:30 am appt. the following day. After calling the west side they had not received the orders and would call me back. Before they could DR. Grundmeyer's called and asked if I could come the east side (spine hospital) to get it done at 11:30 am. It's now 10:15 am and asked what happened to the west side, was informed they could not get me in today. So before I could get out of the driveway the west side calls me back and said they had the orders and when do I what to come in. Found out at that time they could get me in anytime that afternoon. After getting to the spine hospital things still did not improve and I canceled the ct scan and the follow up appt. with them. I do not like being jerked around and was only trying to get done what was requested by his staff. Will be looking for another DR. needless to say. Had a hospital follow up after an accident.
