Dr. Richard Y Thorpe III

Dr. Richard Thorpe was always an amazing ER physician at San Angelo Community ER and a kind and very compassionate physician He was entertaining to keep the staff always on our toes, he was aware of everything going on around. The Emergency Room is a crazy place to be, some days slow, some day don't some days don't stop, and some days when the full moon comes on and it takes on a life of it's own. Al hands on deck. I worked there for a years and he could always be counted on to provide the best care and a hint of lightheartedness, he was always reliable and did everything he could for a positive prognosis and outcome that is what we pray for. At one time, I took a tumble down my apartment's stairs,got up and felt store, but not too bad. So, I carried on with the plans for the night a it sore, but shaking it off and being a tough ER employee. I went home around 2:15 AM when things shut down. I awoke up around 5:00 AM for a bathroom break, I expected to get out of bed with 2 working legs,however only ONE worked, the second collapsed beneath me with searing pain, a swollen blob that once resembed a foot would not longer even fit into a flip flop. SO, He set me up for xrays, and there was a fracture, a hairline fracture in the foot. He popped off a few one liners and giggles (one like NO OTHER) to get me calmed down and he did it with the grace of an incredible physician with the kindness of a doctor meant to be in this career choice. I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to work with a knowledgeable physician who aware of the importance of his job and I had no problem showing there was a fun side of a doctor when he wasn't saving lives. Dr Thorpe had that, but more than that, He was fully invested in his staff, his patients and his job. I worked with him in the ER at Community back in the mid 90's, but always stood his ground when the seekers came in, he always was kind and gentle when he needed to be, he was quick and thorough, he was great at talking with families when he needed. Thank you, Dr Thorpe for your wit, your care, taking care of my foot in the middle of the night. I'm grateful for you. Liz (Young) Lourash, US

He is so awesome! Friendly and treats you with respect. Smart! Very professional. He explained all my meds too.
