Ronald Douglas Shiell

My first skin cancer surgery was done by a plastic surgeon, and I was very pleased with the outcome -- very little scarring and no bumps. Dr Shiell did my second and third surgeries, and in both cases the stitching was very sloppy in comparison. I had bumps, flaps, and a pit (yeah I had a lot of places done) and one of the nostrils collapsed. I feel like I'm now permanently ugly.

Never go back again wait time is horrendous rather go somewhere else

I felt on going to this office a third time and on primary care physician’s recommendation to see the MD instead of the PA, that Dr Schiell’s visit with me was short. He didn’t look carefully, nor did he take a biopsy. I have been satisfied with my family members’ care at this office, but I will be seeking care with a different doctor at this time. The office and staff are good, but if it is not a simple fix, he didn’t seem interested. I like Dr. Shiell, however I went for a follow up from 2 minor procedures and he never looked at the areas he did the procedure to see if they were healing right. He checked my face and arms, and froze two spots, and then I thought he was going to check my back to see if the 2 areas healed correctly, but was already gone out of the room. I had to pay $40.00, but a follow up should be no charge, and then I missed two hours of work as I the latest appt. you can get is 3:30. Like I said, I still like Dr. Shiell, but maybe take a few extra minutes to look at the patient's chart to see why they are there. Dr. Shiell has always been top notch in his professionalism as a skilled surgeon and knowledgeable dermatologist. Being overly exposed to the sun and elements in the earlier decades of my life, has taken its toll on my skin as I age. I make appointments every 3 months because I always have new "outcroppings" that appear on my skin and since I have a history of basal cell carcinomas, I need to keep them in check. Your office is THE BEST. The girls at the front desk (Fresno) are so friendly, professional and welcoming. The MAs put me at ease, sometimes I am anxious. Ronald Shiell, MD, is one of the best doctors my wife, Cheryl, and I have ever had. He is very thorough in every procedure, has a very kind way of treating patients, and is fun to chat with! The Dr was awesome and he did a GREAT job!!! Would recommend him to anyone that needs a skin cancer dr. The front desk let me sit for an hour before telling me why there was a delay. I did not appreciate that. Should of said something in the very beginning of my visit. They should of checked insurance referral on Friday or the day they received the document in the mail indicating the wrong procedure. Instead I had to wait for them to figure/fix it. I actually went to see Dr. Shiell for a second opinion. From the start, with Michelle,(front desk) who was AMAZING, to the doctor and the nurses, ALL were great!! Loved Dr. Shiell. He listen to what I have to say, he explained what he was doing. He was compassionate and thorough. Thank you ALL for taking care of my me.

I have been going to West Dermatology for many years now. I have always liked Dr. Shiell and have stayed because of him; even when the level of service from the office staff was poor. I am happy to say that the service level from the staff has improved greatly over the last year.

Dr. Shiell is ever just an outstanding delight. Totally attentive and demonstrates the highest professional standards (this from a fellow physician). His surgical skills are as good as any I have seen. He goes out of his way to listen and politely, kindly talk with patients.

When I called, the receptionist was helpful and able to get me in the same week. The medical assistant who was with the dr was possibly the greatest I have ever experienced. I got really nervous at one point and she was very reassuring and kind. She even handled my sarcasm well. my experience was really good, loved how easy and fast checking in and out was. Medical Assistants were so nice and helpful. Dr. Shiell was so pleasant and attentive. Really liked how he took his time and answered all my questions.
