I remember being told that when I got pregnant that he would no longer treat me as a patient if I continued my pregnancy. I remember as a child on 9 different medications because he was possitive what was wrong with me. Turns out I was on the autism spectrum and now only take two meds not 9. Alot of my family used him as a doctor, he would talk about what other family members were saying when they came to see him. I don't usually leave reviews, but I felt compelled to after my visit. I don't know why the office would have a single bad review. The receptionist was beyond nice. She was friendly, helpful, and warm. I was nervous for my appointment with Dr McKelway. I have been to countless appointments the last couple years, and it's hard to find Dr's who are knowledgeable and willing to listen. I was worried that because of my constant stress due to the state of my health, I wouldn't be able to convey myself and my needs properly. Dr McKelway was so great. He was knowledgeable about my rare disease. He was compassionate and willing to understand just how badly my quality of life has been impacted. I felt seen and understood. He also helped me come to understand things about myself that I've struggled with since before becoming sick. It was just so refreshing to meet a dr who was so understanding and also so willing to help me as the quality of my life has been drastically altered unexpectedly. Especially my ability to take care of my children at the level that I was. Definitely highly recommend this practice, I can't say it enough. I had been seeing his office for 5 years and less than a month before my appointment I received a letter in the mail stating they were no longer accepting my insurance. I had to find another provider in less than a month before my medication ran out. His office was always helpful and provided me good care throughout the 5 years but often it was hard to get ahold of someone and they had no portal to be able to see notes, dxs, or txs. Also having them run it through my insurance was not easy as there doesn't seem to be a timely manner to which claims are sent out. The biggest let down was the short notice to find a new provider. Psychiatrists in the area are hard to find, and especially ones that are accepting new patients. They could not offer me a list of providers to refer me to, so I was left on my own to do that.

decided to stop participating with my insurance with less than one week notice and required a rescheduled appointment. Definitely left me in the lurch.

I'm writing to counteract Logan's one star review. I have seen Kristen on a regular basis for several years now and I think she is fantastic. I'm very pleased with her compassion and engagement with me, as well as her medical expertise. Dr. McKelway, on the other hand, has been dismissive of my concerns and seems to be operating on out-of-date knowledge of the field. refused to take my insurance with less than one week notice. really left me in the lurch

This place is a joke, the girls at the front are rude. I’ve been waiting to hear back from my doctor there for a week and everyone I call I get “well she has your message to call you back”

If you are looking for a pill pusher, you will love this place. 18-months ago this place (Kristen) promised me to help someone I love dearly get off medication. The three of us sat together and put a plan together. Kristen is a pushover and does not walk the talk. Being nice and kind is not the solution. Getting to the root of the problem is the first step. You will not get help for your loved one if they have a drug and/or drinking problem. Kristen doesn’t know or offer any strategies for coping. I’m posting because I thought my friend was dead this morning. My friend runs out of medication and gets it off the street. This friends continues to lie to Kristen, and Kristen keeps writing scripts for more and more meds. ???? I waited all month trying not to hurt myself. I called the day of the appointment a month later and they told me they rejected me. I cannot judge the quality of care provided or the effectiveness of the doctor. Either management or the scheduling staff are abysmal. My wife waited for a month and a half for a new patient first appt and when we called we were told the provider rejected her. This in its self is good and bad, good because they recognize they cannot help her (or they're scared of her diagnosis). However the BAD is that they let us think for a month and a half that she was going to be seen. So we did not make appts anywhere else and are now back to square one waiting, letting her attempted self harm accumulate. To top it off they tried to say they never scheduled her even though we have our conversation recorded. Please for those in the future do not give false hope. Dr. Mckelway is extremely professional, trustworthy, and nonjudgmental. He is not afraid to tell you the truth and very easy to open up to. He has helped me completely turn my life around.

I have been seeing Dr McKelway a good part of 20 years and have nothing but praise for him. Very easy to talk to and most importantly listens to what you are saying. Being open and honest with your psychiatrist is a large part of getting to the bottom of any of your problems and he is good at drawing these things out. Very kind, intelligent and educated. Dr. McKelway saved my life. I have to be so professional and collected all the time, but when I go see him I can just be me and he’s so thoughtful and calm. Has really helped me and my father so much. I’ve been going to see him 8 years and never had a problem with his secretary or practice. Usually if there’s a problem with prescription refills it is a pharmacy issue. I will continue to see him until he retires. Very kind, intelligent and educated. Dr. McKelway saved my life. He was nice, and personable the first time we met, and adjusted a medication I was already on. As our appointments continued, I had an emotional breakdown during an appointment and he abruptly stopped seeing me, instead having me meet with a female colleague who he said would “understand me better”. He added more and more medication, until I was eventually taking almost 10 pills per day. His medication mismanagement and general lack of concern for my wellbeing nearly cost me my life.

Receptionist is rude and nasty. She ignores messages from patients and pharmacy. She refused to let me speak to the doctor or have the doctor call me.

The older receptionist is rude, doesn’t return calls on timely manner. Patients have to tell her what we need from our doctor. It’s not the receptionist’s business ! My daughter has seen Kristen a few times, I would not recommend her at all!! My daughter had a problem with her medication, called and left message for her, no call back several times. She was supposed to send papers to the school board for my daughter, almost ended up in court because she did not do her job! Now I need a note from her for my daughter to take an important test for school and she’s hiding behind the receptionist, will not return my calls, and as per the receptionist, will not give me the letter my daughter needs to take test! I love both the doctors here. But the receptionist makes it so freaking difficult I’m tempted to leave and find a new doctor. It’s not that hard to return a phone call. I absolutely love the doctor and have been going here for the last few years. I’m not so happy about the receptionist. She never returns my calls and when I finally do get to talk to her she’s rude. As some you see when you first walk in you should feel welcomed. Not be worried about how the receptionist is going to treat you. As a patient I’m already struggling with a multitude of things. Dr. McKelway has been my psychiatrist for about a year and a half now, and I have nothing but positive things to say about him. Beyond his very kind and attentive personality, he is highly educated and experienced (he is both a psychiatry MD and an internal medicine MD / he was one of the primary psychiatrists at WMC for many years). I was referred to Dr. McKelway by my GP to figure out a new anti-depressant. I wasn't expecting traditional psychotherapy, but I was expecting to be able to elaborate a bit on the questions he was firing away at me from his clipboard. He was oddly cold and detached, barely looked up, and sighed with impatience when I wasn't able to give precise answers regarding timelines. It was an awkward, unpleasant experience, and I cancelled my follow-up appointment with his very sweet receptionist as soon as I got home.

I have been seeing Dr. McKelway for close to 5 years and I cannot say anything negative about him or his practice. He is very helpful and professional.

I have seen many professionals over the years & never really connected or trusted any of them. McKelway made me feel at ease from the start, taking the time to fully understand my situation. He works with YOU to come up with the best treatment plan that benefits YOU. I highly recommend him.

He did not warn me about potential weight gain on a new medication he prescribed. He was not very empathetic and came off as cold/uncaring. I was barely able to really talk about the issues I was having before he had already written an rx. I had a follow-up appointment and the receptionist was very rude and said I was not scheduled. They fit me in, but she made me feel bad about it even though I really did have an appointment. I haven't been back since and will never return. Not at all impressed

Dr. McKelway is a wonderful psychiatrist! I have been his patient for 20 years, and he has helped me and my family enormously. He is brilliant when it comes to the practice of psychiatry, but he also shows sincere concern and compassion. He has the experience to guide his patients through rough waters, and educates his patients about their illness, medications, and various approaches. Dr. McKelway will listen and advise wisely. He is a great man.

I've been seeing McKelway for a few years, strictly for the purposes of medication maintenance, nothing else. He has terrible bedside manner and lacks empathy. He was personally critical of my faith and continually asks me very personal sexual questions. Over time, he has had difficulty keeping my scheduled appointments and I've consistently had to wait 30+ minutes, sometimes having to cancel the visit and leave because he was so behind.

Purposely misleading in meds prescribed, and his complete lack of empathy, and rejecting my own wishes for my medical treatment was traumatizing. He put me on a medicine he months later admitted was exactly the type of medicine I was VERY afraid of being put on and lied about side effects, as my biggest fear was feeling drugged and zombielike, which had happened before.
