Dr. Samih Elchahal

Dr. Elchahal was very thorough and effective using the available tools and collected information from his staff. Very efficient process executed by his team. At the checkout I received all detailed information about the treatment process with pictures and step-by-step instructions. Wow!!

This was my first time to visit Houston Eye Associates and Dr. Elchahal. Check in was quick and easy, the exam was a snap. Everyone was friendly, very professional and it took just minutes to check out. Sounds pretty perfect to me. I’ve found a new eye doctor.

I brought my husband to this place because his eye was red. We waited a long time to see the Dr.Elchahal. He comes in he doesn't introduce himself. He checks my husband's eyes and is in a big rush. My husband felt very uncomfortable. One more thing the person that checks your eyes for a prescription is not an optometrist. They just have trained individuals.

Very welcoming place with renowned professionals and a great team. I definitely recommend the place and the doctor/ provider to anyone looking for a serious and wise eye doctor.

I went to Dr. Elchahal for the first time yesterday, I really appreciated how thorough he was & he's extremely knowledgeable. It's hard to find great doctors and they don't make you seemed so rushed these days, and I will be back!

I think this is the first review I have ever written. I need to start taking stop watches to my doctors appointments. This probably was the quickest. I am a senior citizen and have seen a lot of doctors where it seems the top priority of many of them is to get in and out as quickly as possible. Staff was a 5.

We (my mom and I) arrived more than an hour before the appointment (ten a.m.) not expecting to be token in early but we were happy they did. Everyone was really nice so we tried to look past the fact that we waited another two hours after said appointment time (more than three hours in total). When the actual doctor arrived, he came in in a hurried manner. He paid very little attention to our troubles and only really spoke medical jargon to his assistant. The doctor immediately said no to surgery we had originally come in to finalize (note: we have been waiting months and months for this surgery and we were a little disappointed when we heard this). I tried to keep in mind that he was the professional so I tried not to overstep, but when I mentioned I had been to at least four doctors before him (all saying that a surgery was needed) he disregarded their advice and rudely said that if they recommended the surgery than they should be doing it. We explained that we didn’t have the means and that is why we were in there to begin with. He then provided an alternative that didn’t make much sense to me, as my eye problem is a physical casting (to my understanding). My mom and I expressed our confusion and we were met with a ‘meet this doctor for this blah blah blah have a nice day.’ Having come five hours out to this appointment, we expected a doctor who would listen and attempt to ease our concerns, but instead we got one that just saw us as another name off his list. The professional and staff are great and gave us a high quality care service. From the scheduling center throughout the doctor, they are a five stars service!

Took an early morning appointment of 8. The doctor came in at around 8:40. Came in walking very fast. Was not much patient in listening to my problem. Checked my eye in a minute. While talking to me he was continuously giving notes to his assistant. No diagnosis. For the whole time he was in a hurry. Finally referred me to another clinic. In my opinion and experience, Dr Elchahal is a terrible doctor! He scurries in and out like a freight train and is always rushed. I also found him highly impatient and rude. Last visit he was very short tempered and irritable. Someone else at Houston Eye Associates also shared the same sentiments about him, which says a lot. He failed to inform me of mild cataracts I have had since seeing him first in 2018. Even if mild, he has a responsibility to tell me. After multiple visits to the optical department following my recent appointment, because everything was still blurry, he looked again and suddenly found a very dense cataract that he says was not there 3 months before. He then sent me to “Diagnostics” who gave me a very dark and dismal run down of my eyes. It was very concerning. My husband (a highly respected physician in the Texas Medical Center) and I called Dr Elchahal’s office twice, to which he did not even bother to return the calls or follow up. One week later and still no word from him. He runs a money making business and is the single worst doctor I have ever experienced. Tammy, in the optical department is amazing and the rest of the office staff is friendly and nice. Go see someone other than Dr Elchahal if you care about your eyesight! He should be ashamed of his bedside manner and patient care! I have never complained about a physician ever before but feel it is my duty to share my experience with him for the past 4 years. Visited office on 07/12/21, thought that I had an appmt for then. Turns out it was for 07/19/21. The staff pleasantly checked for cancellations. I was seen 20 minutes later. Very pleasant and professional experience. Highly recommended.

Never made it to see this eye doctor because his office and therefore he has an inability to operate in a timely manner. First I tried multi occasions to call in and arrange an appointment. He is a member of giant company and you’re just a number. I waited ove 10 minutes twice to even try and set up the appointment. Once I got through and set it up and provided all my information, it did not matter because it doesn’t go to the front desk of his office. She had to do it all over herself. When I arrived 10 minutes earlier than my appointment, I was left 20 minutes past my doctors appointment to start the paper work. Why could this not be given when I arrived like every doctors office does? Now 40 minutes waiting I am asked by the same person to allow me to let her run diagnostics on me. Why can’t this be done when I got there? All of my insurance and paper work was collected on the appointment call and so why is she doing it over? I am then told she is doing the best she can and for me to give her a break its Monday. At this point I decided to leave and stop wasting my time. Unfortunately you are at the mercy of someone other than the doctor. Try another doctor that is not in HoustonEyeCare group which is a National chain and run like one where you don’t really matter. I waited one hour in the waiting room and Dr. Elchahal saw me for about 5 minutes ... he gave me 3 options for medicines and said choose one of these , and the nurse will give you the prescription and left the room ! Everything happened so fast , I didn’t have a chance to ask any questions ! When the patient spends one hour in waiting room, the doctors should give them more than 5 minutes of their time ... maybe a chance to talk ! Very professional and thorough. My appointment was originally for examination of an eye injury. After that evaluation, Dr. Elchahal spent considerable time detailing other things that he noticed in detail that a non-medical person could understand. Thank you.

One evening I was experiencing some "flashing light" out of my peripheral vision. I immediately went to "Google University" to see what it might be. The internet said it can be caused by many things, other than your eye's. Later on I noticed a "large" floater which narrowed the issue down to my eye. I was concerned that it may be a detached retina so the next morning I called Houston Eye Associates, which is where my wife goes for eye care. They were able to find a location near my job that could see me that morning. Dr. Samih Elchahal listened to my symptoms and examined my eyes. He was very thorough and knowledgeable and he could tell I had both Lasik and a PRK treatment previously from just examining my eyes. He told me my retina was fine but wanted an ultrasound of the eye. The front desk was able to schedule it for the same day at their main location on Gramercy St. I arrived 30 minutes early in case there was paperwork involved and they ushered me right in for the ultrasound.

Overbearing manner, basically calling patients crazy when he’s the crazy one, and complete disregard to what others try to explain to him!! Got a second opinion with another ophthalmologist with no issues, was told a totally different story than what this “doctor” told me! BE CAREFUL...this guy is either insane, after your money, or scariest of all: thinks he’s right when he’s completely off!! I see lots of negative feedback, but my personal experience has been extremely helpful in fact been the most honest opthamolagist.

He explained the procedure clearly. I was able to schedule the surgery within a reasonable timeframe. He seemed knowledgeable. His staff was an added bonus.

Wow, what a great office and great staff! There was absolutely no wait - which I love because I came during my lunch break for both appointments.
