Dr. Shelby Dames

I've been a patient of Dr. Dames for the last year. Here's my assessment of her. She is among the finest physicians I've ever encountered. I would rate her as among the top one percent of that group. Here are the keys to her excellence. 1) she's a wonderful listener as she takes me through my concerns (not common among her peers). 2) she is very patient as she discusses my condition, carefully reviewing in detail her analyses of the course of action I should take. 3) Boy, is she easy to talk to! And you'd think she had all the time in the world to meet with me. How rare is that! 4) She's obviously superbly educated, and I'm improving steadily under her guidance. I am truly blessed that I found her!

Very expensive!!!

Dr. Dames is AMAZING. She is what you desire of every professional ...incredibly thorough, knowledgable, patient, interested and she takes all the time you need to understand results, symptoms and solutions. She is not "siloed" in her specialty, but took the time to integrate reports and results from other physicians to complete my health picture, which was amazing and relieving. Although after all was said and done I do not need a rheumatologist, Dr. Dames pointed me in the direction I needed after a rather lengthy "search" for health care answers. If you DO need a rheumatologist, you couldn't be more fortunate than to find this physician (p.s. her nurses and staff are also wonderful.) Dr. Dames is AMAZING. Absolutely Amazing!!! I was unable to sleep at night retaining lots of fluid and just having a lot of issues, my doctor couldn't figure out what was going on so he referred me to Dr. Dames, so glad he did, she figured out in one visit what was going on with me and recommended wrist braces at night, and that made it so I could sleep at night again, I was so happy I could hug her!!! After 3 month of not sleeping at night because I woke up in so much pain in my hand, and in one visit and she knew exactly what was wrong. Dr Dames is "the best"! She is knowledgeable, thorough, answers questions & is candid. She tells it like it is & doesn't "mince" words! In one day my quality of life has been changed, for the better! Excellent attention to detail and bedside manner here. Dr Dames experience caught an illness that is super rare and we've been chasing a proper diagnosis for 10 years prior to her seeing my case and knowing more about it than anyone else working with me at the time and I'd never even met her at that point. Dr. Dames provided a very thorough exam and recommendations for my husband's care that exceeded our expectations. She's extremely knowledgeable and communicates very well with her patients and their caregivers. Thank you so much!

Not great. I had symptoms of RA for a long time, multiple hand surgeries and other tendon surgeries. I was ANA Positive, so was referred to her soon after she started at the Iowa Clinic. She ran lots of blood tests, & RA was not confirmed. She was pretty sure I had Type 2 diabetes, & that it could be the culprit, so had me worried about that for a couple of weeks between appointments. However, my A1C was normal, & I did not actually have Type 2, so I worried for nothing. She didn't really address my RA symptoms, & was still focused on preventing diabetes. I felt that she missed the boat. I finally went to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester. In addition to more blood tests, they did various scans of my body-very thorough MRI's, a full body scan, & x-rays. It was there that 3 different radiologists confirmed I had inflammatory arthritis in multiple joints--my knees, hips and hands. I am going to travel to the Mayo for continued care b/c they figured it out & RA doc was very helpful.

Dr. Dames was my husband Steve Meske's Dr. when she was practicing in Ogden. She was caring and very helpful as he suffered with a debilitating disease. I was sorry to hear she had moved out of state as my sister is suffering from rheumatoid arthritis in her hands.

I saw Dr. Dames for the first time a week ago. I was amazed at the amount of time she spent with me to thoroughly evaluate my condition. She truly listened, was caring and honest. I appreciate her being proactive in addressing my medical concerns. I also loved her nurse Rhonda. Rhonda called me two times within 2 days of my appointment to update me with lab reports. I would recommend Dr. Dames to anyone needing a rheumatologist.

I recently transferred to Dr. Dames. I have seen her multiple times and each time she is honest but kind. I appreciate her authenticity and willingness to really help me. She considers multiple treatment options. She gave me hope and has helped me to substantially improve my quality of life. I would highly recommend her as a quality physician who has wonderful staff. You’ll be in good hands.

I have been seeing Dr.Dames every month since March. She is one of the best doctors I have ever aeen. Extremely thorough, warm, answers all questions, very knowledgeable and caring. I trust her completely! I am a nurse so very picky about who I see. I cannot recommend her enough!

Dr. Dames is thorough and very caring. It is evident that she is passionate about her patients and her practice. She spent a substantial amount of time with us and answered any and all questions we had. Would highly recommend her and her expertise.

Had my first appointment with Shelby Dames today. She was very thorough and went through my whole medical history and really seems dedicated to help find the root of my problems. She was very good about explaining things in a way that I understood. I look forward to continue working with her through my diagnosis and treatment plans.

My husband sees Dr. Dames for his psoriatic arthritis. I have gone to a few of his appointments with him so I can better understand his autoimmune disease and the direction of treatment. Dr. Dames does an amazing job thoroughly examining, listening and explaining everything from labs, x-rays to medications. We have tried alternative medicine because the synthetic medications seemed so terrifying before. Now, with better explanation and understanding, our next steps are clear and less stressful. I would HIGHLY recommend Dr. Dames to anyone that has arthritis currently or suspects they have arthritis. She is professional and caring and genuinely wants to see you feel better. Dr. Dames was amazing. She sat down with me and thoroughly went over all my medical history to get to know me better so she could treat me appropriately. She took the time to answer questions, listen, and really focus on my various issues. She was able to work with my dermatologist (I have psoriasis, which may correlate with my joint pain) to get labs and make sure I was on the right medication for both conditions. Dr. Dames is very thorough and very caring with me and I can tell she is this way with her other patients. I started experiencing joint pain along with other things in November, went to my family doctor and was referred to Dr. Dames. I am so thankful that I was. She has helped me so much since seeing her in January. Love how she explains labs and xrays with me so I understand them!

Dr. Dames is very thorough in explaining the reasoning for the tests and the test results and explains the diagnosis and how to proceed with my care. She remains available to answer any questions I might have.

Having been diagnosed in the past six months with an autoimmune disease., I have been extremely satisfied with the care Dr Dames has given me. At the initial visi t she spent over two hours with me explaining the disease what to expect and the optional care she could give. Her empathy was and continues to be of great comfort. I've had arthritis for 20 years and have been on medication for treating it. My doctor moved so I decided to try Dr. Dames. Once in her office I was told she was unwilling to prescribe my current medications and that the only thing she could recommend was tylenol. I have never been so ignored my a doctor in my life. I won't return nor recommend her "services"

Dr. Dames did not listen to my concerns. Seems her favorite response was, What else?.. Repeatedly. She downplayed my symptoms when I am the one suffering and I know how and what I am feeling. Terrible bedside manner and did not seem concerned with my well being at all!. Do your self a favor and seek another Dr. Waited a long time for the appointment, not worth the wait at all. Highly overpriced Dr.

It was more important that she got her clinical notes done during our time together than it was for me to understand what I was experiencing. She diagnosed me with Fibromyalgia on paper then when I caught wind of it she commented if I need to label it then yes I have this as well. I spent 3 years with her and found her lacking in common courtesy as well as providing accurate medical records of the time we spent together.
