Great doctor,would recommend him to anyone .Explained thoroughly what was going on with my knee,took care of it prescribed medication that work with meds I am currently taking .Office staff very personable thorough and genuinely concerned. A lot of my customers have visited Dr Whitfield and had replacements and different treatments and procedures performed and have nothing but good to say . He is a Craftsman at his trade he also seems to enjoy helping people. Thank you dr. Stephen Whitfield.

Follow- up visit after a complete left hip replacement.

Recently had my left hip replacement surgery with Dr. Whitfield. He is a phenomenal surgeon! During my first appointment with him he carefully explained what he recommended and why and answered all of my questions thoroughly. He exudes confidence. My surgery went flawlessly and my recuperation has been nothing short of incredible. It's only been 3 weeks!!! The hospital where the procedure was done was Lewis Gale - Montgomery. Fabulous hospital with a great and attentive staff. Dr Whitfield's PA, Christopher Anderson was also extremely professional and helpful as was the local office staff in Bluefield Va. I will probably need my other hip replaced in time and wouldn't imagine anyone else but Dr,. Whitfield doing it for me.

Dr. Whitfield has been my ortho doc for 10 years. I have had 2 knee meniscus clean-ups and he will eventually do my knee replacement. I have followed him from Beckley, WV to Bluefield, VA. He has always been cordial in temperament and able to explain my condition to me clearly. His office staff is efficient getting appointments and having diagnostic tests scheduled in a timely manner. I will/have recommended Dr. Whitfield to family and friends.

Dr. Whitfield is an amazing and outstanding Orthopedic Surgeon. While on vacation I found myself in the ER from a fall and Dr. Whitfield came to a weekend rescue where he conducted/performed my surgery. He and his team were extremely professional, compassionate, knowledgeable, and provided a in-depth conversation of assessments and options. With out a doubt - Dr. Whitfield is committed to his patients and their well being.

Dr Whitfield was very caring Doctor. He took his time to explain all options to my problems. He seem extremely knowledgeable and respectful. I loved the friendliness of the staff and nurses. He's a very doctor that takes the time to explain things to you, not rush you in and out. He has operated on me three times for three different problems, I have had great success post surgeries and rehabs.

Appointment was on time, he was quite personable and gave me all the options for my knee pain. and strangely my cortisone injection feels better than any of the others I've had. Not quite sure if he just hit the right spot or what.

My father goes here and he is getting ready to have his second hip replacement. He had his first one in 2016. Dr. Whitfield is amazing at what he does! Dr Whitfield looks you in the eyes and listens to you respectfully. He speaks clearly and intelligently giving all the information he can so you can make the right choice for your care. The visits to his office and the assistance i received over the phone have been kind and respectful. The experience of surgery at Lewis Gale Hospital was the best i have ever had. Both the hospital and his office carefully followed up on my progress and offered assistance if needed. My surgery wound site is clean and will barely leave a scar. I cannot say enough good about my entire experience with Dr. Whitfield.

I had an appointment in October and found out I have osteoarthritis in my hip and will need a hip replacement but, doctor said I need to lose weight first. He said he could give me a steroid shot which will be set up at Raleigh General. I called his scheduler who only said she's waiting for the doctor to tell her when he can do it. It is now July - 9 months later and I'm still in a lot of pain. He wants your credit/debit card so he can take your money but, he was condescending and has no compassion or empathy for his patients whatsoever! I would never recommend Dr Whitfield to anyone ever!!!! I had LTKR on April 19, 2021 after having to put it off for 9 years. Dr. Whitfield and his staff were so helpful and considerate of my age, needs, and physical condition. He stayed on top of things while I was in hospital and swing bed therapy. I fully recommend Dr. Whitfield and am thankful for a successful surgery.

Office staff hangs up on me anytime I call. ????

Dr. Whitfield is an excellent physician. Very kind and listened , then resolved the problem I was having. Highly recommend him.

My experience was wonderful with Dr. Whitfield. Great Doctor. Had surgery and everything went perfectly. But, his office staff is terrible. Could not get my forms faxed to my insurance. She wouldn’t except a fax from them. Had to hand Carrie all correspondence. Took them twice and still not received. When I call to ask her she wanted to charge me $50 for her not doing her job.???? If not for Dr. Whitfield I believe my leg/foot would be in much worse shape than it is. It's nice but unfortunately rare that you have such a skilled and knowlegable physician that always puts patients first.

Very professional. Everyone is also very kind and friendly, and they work diligently to keep wait time as short as possible. These are excellent doctors, and health care workers, and they are very good at explaining everything so that you can understand exactly what they feel is the best way to proceed in taking care of you so that your quality of care and life is excellent. The only complaint is trying to get ahold of them by phone during office hours, however, the are excellent doctors, and they have a very large patient load so even that is somewhat understandable. Horrible! They overbook and expect patients to wait for an hour or so just so they can schedule more patients and make more money. After waiting an hour for my appointment, I had to leave to go back to work, so I asked them if it was normal to run this far behind, and there was no apology, they said, "It just depends, sometimes we do and sometimes we don't". I would never support a business that has such little regard for it's customers time. My time is too valuable to wait and wait and wait... Horrible! Initial appointment fine, Dr is very nice. Making me an appointment for MRI to procede. Was told reports take a week should hear back in two weeks. Called in three weeks, was told they would call me back. Never did. Called back in four weeks, sat on hold for twenty five minutes waiting to speek to lady. Frustration, canceled it all. Find another doctor who is more concerned about health rather than money! They require a credit card to be on file as well, which is unethical according to PCI complience people. Dr. Whitfield did carpal tunnel surgery on my left hand in Oct. 2014 and a total knee replacement of the right knee in Nov. 2014. In my opinion, he is an excellent Doctor and I was amazed to find this level of medical care in this little town. He is currently treating my left knee with injections and when it becomes necessary I will let him replace it. In addition, he will do carpal tunnel surgery on my right hand in July. Dr. Whitfield did carpal tunnel surgery on my left hand in Oct. 2014 and a total knee replacement of the right knee in Nov. 2014. Many doctors had misdiagnosed my fracture, but Dr. Whitfield immediately recognized it. He then had a cast put on, and it was an easy recovery. It was a great experience.
