Dr Awner was very thorough and provided clear explanations. His professional manner was very positive and reassuring.

Dr. Awner is a very compassionate provider and when he comes in contact with his patients, he has a very warm welcoming approach. My daughter is a feisty, strong, willed little lady, and has experienced many doctors visits with not the same success. As she gets older things get better, but when she comes in here, she at least improves each time. The staff is very welcoming and engaging in very positive ways. Especially when interacting with my daughter. I highly recommend him for those who need an eye specialist. The wait is quite lengthy, but that should be expected when going to somebody who is going to sit at the bedside and actually be compassionate and caring with his patients.

just tried to book an appointment for my daughter who is having vision problems with neurological issues and the secretary was rude, uncaring and basically refused to book an appointment for her. Will try somewhere else with better bedside manner.

We went for my young sons first eye exam. The entire staff we interacted with was outstanding and Dr. Awner was excellent with my son and very patient. The length of the exam from the time we got there to the time we left was, I felt, extreme. We were there for just under 3 hours. I appreciate the staff and doctor taking the time to do everything thoroughly and was assured the appointments going forward won't be so long. Hopefully that is the case! My son was definitely getting restless towards the end and thankfully I had brought food for him. Overall, a great experience. But the office should prepare new patients for the length or maybe think of ways to cut down the time without sacrificing the detail given to each patient.

Dr. Awner was excellent with my 3 year old. Great bedside manner, quick and decisive. Also really reassured me as a parent.

From a child to an adult.. Dr Awner has made multiple appearances in my life... When I was a kid he operated on my eyes in relation to my Ocular albinism... which he did an incredible job on... He is extremely talented at his craft... honestly the best in the business in my opinion... As an adult I got a piece of aluminum in my eye that was stuck there for 6 weeks.. after visiting multiple eye Doctors who all told me they didn't feel comfortable pulling it out because my eyes move involuntary... I called Dr Awners cell phone on a Sunday at 4:30pm.. left a voice mail.. 2 minutes later I recieved a phone call back from him Instructing me to meet him at his office that same day!! That's right.. he postponed his plans for the evening to help me.... He even said "don't worry about insurance till later.. let's resolve this problem first" absolutely incredible... I've never met another Dr so dedicated to helping others.. the medical industry is really going to take a hit when this guy retirees.. Take my word for it.. There was a little wait, but it was worth it. Dr. Awner explains and takes his time with my daughter’s eyes. (Hope it stays that way?) Compared to the other doctor that my daughter was seeing, didn’t explain much at all.

Very good doctor and very helpful

Dr Awner is by far one of best doctors I've met. Always has been VERY thorough, soft spoken, and great with kids. I would recommend him to all my friends and family! He's the best!

The appointment was a little long, they had to dilate his eyes but the doctor is excellent, so great and patient with children. He also took the time to really explain to me the issue and resolutions. Highly recommend for young children but do bring a snack and something for the child to do incase the appointment takes a long time.

Dr. Awner is a great doctor but the wait times are crazy at this office.

Worked well with my 2.5-year-old daughter. Calm demeanor which helped her feel relaxed. He addressed questions and explained thoroughly.

Doctor Awner has taken care of my daughter’s eyes since her first amblyopia surgery when she was fifteen months. His work has held up for seventeen years now, so he is mighty good. Even more remarkable is his bedside manner. Very calming and kind. Kids seem to relate to him well, and he is able to diagnose and fix issues beautifully. I wish he was my doctor!

Dr Awner is the absolute best with kids. He has a calming effect when he comes in the room and listens to the kids when they speak. We have also never had to wait long in his office to see him.

Dr Awner is a great doctor who seems to really care about his patients. His bedside manor is exceptional, he seems to take the time needed for each patient, and he patiently answers all of your questions with ease and grace.

Dr. Awner finally walked in the room at 4:00pm for a 2:00pm appointment for my three-year-old. When I voiced my frustration with him, his response led me to believe that this is common practice and nothing out of the ordinary in his office.

I have eye issues that only Dr. Awner has been able to diagnose and correct. I can’t thank him enough!

Had an appointment scheduled and waited 3 months to get in. 4 days before my appointment they called and canceled my appointment and said they could get me in a month later . My child is having serious vision changes and problems.

This place is a joke. You will get an appointment only after waiting many many months. And even after that they will change your appointment to another doctor, at the last minute. I tried calling the office for an appointment with Dr. Awner for my 9 year old son, back in December 2020. The office said that they were moving to a different location and that they have disconnected their computer systems and cannot make any new appointments. They asked me to call back in January 2021. After many many calls in Jan, finally got a response from them and booked an appointment for April 2021 (first available). We patiently waited for 4 months to see Dr. Awner. And just today, a week before the actual appointment, we get a call from the office saying my son doesn't need to see Dr. Awner (Ophthalmologist) and they will switch his appointment to an Optometrist. And that my son (9 yrs), is too old to be seen by Dr Awner (see's only kids 8 and under). My son is the same age as he is now, when I booked the appointment. Apparently, they did not know that is too old for Dr. Awner or that Dr Awner only takes kids who need surgery. They had to switch him around, after waiting 4 months. My son's Pediatrician asked us to see an Opthalmologist and Dr Awner was one of the recommended Dr's. If I can see an Optometrist, I could have gotten an appointment elsewhere within weeks and didn't have to wait for 4 months. This place is totally in-considerate of people's time. Took me MANY phone calls to get to talk with an actual person. When I finally did, the exact words were "we are booking into February, don't got nothing sooner" - and that was that. I'm sad I can not rate this office, I have heard a lot of great things about Dr. Awner and really wanted my infant son (4 months) seen by someone who came highly recommended, especially because what he has going on is challenging. Expect 1-2 hour wait every time. It's worth it

Dr. Awner is the best children's doctor I have ever seen. He takes his time, very thorough job, and explains everything in a way that you can understand. You may have to wait but he is always worth it. My daughter was born with an eye problem and had to have surgery at6 weeks old. Today was our first appointment for my almost 3 year old daughter. We did have to wait a bit but was absolutely worth it. We were greeted by an older lady with dark hair and glasses. She was incredibly nice. Then Shannon took us in to the room and my daughter (who is normally scared and shy at dr offices) completely opened up and loved Shannon. Dr. Awner came in and was very soft and calming for my daughter. We had such an amazing experience from start to finish. Trust me, the wait is worth the care you receive. Thank you. 90 minute wait time for a child is ridiculous. Dr. Awner was incredibly short and condescending and has no patience with children, especially special needs children. He made my son wait so long that he was very antsy for his appointment. Sorry doc, I can’t “keep my child in line” as you put it. We never went back.

Outstanding! Strabismus problem resolved. Eye glass prescription is the best I’ve ever had. Great to be a patient of Dr. Awner. Good guy, terrific ophthalmologist.

Simply put, Dr. Awner is THE BEST doctor I have ever visited. My 9-year old daughter got diagnosed with cataracts, a very rare condition in someone her age. It's only one day after the surgery, so we're still waiting to see how her recovery goes, but I have complete confidence in Dr. Awner. I've had doctors I've liked and trusted before, but I've never had one who so obviously cared deeply for his patients and who was glad to go the extra mile. Without asking he gave us his personal cell phone number and told us it was okay to call or text with any questions or concerns. He even proactively called us twice within the first 30 hours to see how she's doing. He is so easy to talk to, patient with everyone, explains things clearly, takes his time with each individual, and clearly cares about each person. Wow! I wish all doctors were as great as this man.

Everyone is friendly yes, but the fact that my appointment was for 1030 ( I was checked in at 1015) it is now 1133 and I'm still in the waiting room while 3 people who checked in after me has gotten called in, is absolutely ridiculous!!

Would not recommend Dr. Awner. He was highly suggested and we took our son to see him due to us and doctor's thinking he had strabismus or lazy eye. Dr. Awner told us our son had Pseudostrabismus (the look of eye crossing due to his age and bridge of his nose), prescribed him glasses due to his astigmatism and sent us on our way. Needless to say, his eye's didn't approve. I took him to another doctor for a yearly eye appointment and we found out he has accommodating esotropia, alternating esotropia, and strabismic amblyopia of his left eye. Walked in at the time of my appointment, and was told that they were 'on time'. The waiting room was full. My one year old and I ended up waiting an hour for our 3 minutes with the doctor. The carpet was disgusting, so I couldn't even let him crawl around. They toys that were there for kids look like they haven't been washed in years. We have gone for almost 4 years now and usually wait between 1 and 1.5 hours even with an appointment in the waiting area. Great staff and doctor, just a ridiculous wait time.

The staff is friendly and helpful, and I find a doctor on ER explain things well and make sure he turns over every stone to help me.

We have taken our LO to see Dr. Awner twice so far. Each time Dr. Awner was very polite, he explained things to us & answered all of our questions. Dr. Awner was very patient & took time to explain certain things to us pertaining to our LO. We have been very pleased with the type of care he’s provided with our LO. We see him at the Conventus building at Oshei. The wait time can vary. The first apt we waiting a little over an hour to be seen. The second apt we only waited a half hour. I don't mind the occasional long wait times. He takes his time with each patient and is wonderful with our daughter. Great care takes time. I prefer to wait and get quality care over getting rushed through an appointment to stay on schedule. Highly recommend!

I recently saw Dr. Awner about a week ago, just for a check-up regarding prognosis and past surgery after nearly 15 years of him initially operating on me. After 15 years, everything still looks great (medically and cosmetically speaking), and my experience in meeting with him was again very pleasant and assuring. He is very thorough with his patients and really seems to care about his work and patients. I did not wait long at all regarding my appointment; only a few minutes if that. His staff were also very professional and helpful. I highly recommend Dr. Awner as an ophthalmologist :) he did work on me at age 14...and 16 years later...things are still great! Dr. Awner is a fantastic pediatric Opthalmologist! He has seen our child twice & he’s very kind. Very knowledgeable & took the time to explain to us whatever needed clarification at our child’s appointment. We highly recommend him! Wait time can vary from 1-2 hours depending on the day. Our first apt we waited a little over an hour to be seen. The second apt we were seen within a half hour. We saw him at the Conventus building connected to Oshei.

Doctor Awner is good but the 4 kids optical is the worst they take forever and the waiting to be seen is the worst I was waiting over 40 minutes, They don't care about people time and there services garbage.

Was told Dr. Awner is great with special needs children. However, when I called to make an appointment I was told they are not booking new patients until December!!!!! It is only June. I work for a Dr's office and I realize how busy it can be, but we hold slots for new patients. Needless to say, I am VERY DISAPPOINTED.

Wait time was reasonable. The initial appointment takes a while for any dr. But you’re seeing a specialist and one in high demand, that deals with children... you’re going to wait for that. We were advised by the staff that it may take 2 hours for the appointment but they were nice enough to get us in to the office even though they were booked. Dr. Awner is the best, very professional, great with kids and I wouldn't change him for anything he did surgery on my daughter's eyes when she was 4yrs excellent and now 9yrs I truly trust him and my daughter loves him. Any concerns that I might have he will call me right back not the front desk staff, and that it's really important for my family. The front desk staff is amazing too. Thank you Dr.Awner and staff

My husband and I were very anxious about needing to take our 11month old daughter but as soon as we got there we were impressed. Everyone was nice, the office was colorful and kid friendly, and Dr Awner was wonderful. Nothing but good things to say about our visit.

This doctor goes above and beyond to insure your child is taken care of. My child needed surgery and his compassion he showed during it all to calm my nerves was astonishing. He is by far an amazing doctor and person.

My children have been patients of Dr. Awner’s for over five years. Dr. Awner is absolutely the best at what he does and he always has a calm, respectful demeanor. Don’t be deterred by a longer wait time. Because of the nature of children, the delicacy of the eye and the numerous diagnostic possibilities, why wouldn’t you want a doctor who takes his time? I have been to other Pediatric Ophthalmologists and Dr. Awner is definitely worth the wait!

Doctor continues to be an hour or more behind every single time we’re here. By the time we see him I’m so frustrated I want to leave. He said my child will grow out of her eye issues by 9 then as she aged the age increases. Now she’ll grow out of her issue by 13. Yeah right. Don’t trust him. I’m done. Time for a new doc.

Knowledgeable doctor...poor very poor scheduling and wait times. Always over booked and a constant 1 -1 1/2 hr wait. Very rude receptionist. Never call ahead and warn that they are behind. Rescheduling is 2-3 month wait if they are over booked!!! Never again. Second visit is enough!!

I find them rude and arrogant. They arbitrarily change their policies and procedures about what age children can see the opthamologist vs optometrist. They arbitrarily cancel appointments and then it takes months to get a new one, including those you've had scheduled for an entire year. The office staff is rude.

Dr. Awner is knowledgeable and kind. Great with toddlers

We have been taking my daughter there since she was 3 and he is always very professional, knowledgeable and calm even when my daughter was scared. The room colors are a nice touch too for the kids. I highly recommend him!

This is our second time at the office with two different children. Both times the wait was over 45 minutes, I find that very disrespectful. When will doctors learn our time is just as important.

First off i wanna say he is a great Dr and great with children ,went above and beyond for my 3 year old son that I took to the emergency room stay after hours and even came in on a Sunday which was Mother's Day. Takes pride in his job of helping kids which is hard to find wish he was my pediatrician

I can't remember the last appointment my daughter had with Dr. Awner at the Amherst location. I can tell you it is worth the effort & wait to be under his care. I took my daughter to Dr. Awner when she was around two years old. We noticed her eye was slightly off. And come to find out she was blind in that eye. Dr. Awner worked with us to fix her eye WITH OUT surgery. We used patching and she needed glasses. Dr. Awner was fantastic with our daughter. She is now 14 and her eye is at 20/50.

I took my 4 year old to see Dr. Ladota. It took some time to get back to the exam room and when the doctor arrived he didn't even introduce himself. Then as the exam begin I noticed that he was getting frustrated with my son when he didn't follow instruction. To be a pediatric eye doctor and have that level of impatience was surprising to me. Totally turned me off and flustered my son at the same time. At the end of the visit, I was floored when he told me he has a two year old at home! Really?! Hope he is more patient with his child then he was with mine. I will not be back. I took my 4 year old to see Dr. Ladota.
