First I want to thank Dr. Raikin for giving me back my quality of life. I had a very messed up foot and ankle situation that required special surgical experience and technique. Both of which Dr. Raikin possessed. Look him up in the top 38 ankle and foot Drs to know in a 2020 article. I really didn't want to go thru what I imagined would be 9 to 12 months of recovery. I even cancelled my first of two surgeries to put them off until the next year. When I did that, a day later I received a call from the Dr explaining why I shouldn't wait to have these procedures. He was very honest and real with me and I thought about what he said for a couple of days. Then I called back his surgical scheduler and set the date just one week later than the original date. I had the best experience and care from Dr Raikin and his crew, plus Jefferson hospital in Philly. He treats his patients with the utmost care and humanity. Dr. Raikin conducted a full replacement of my left ankle. Within three months I was playing golf and skied at 11 months. If you do everything he says, you will have zero problems. I highly recommend him and his team.

As an active soon to be 70 year old with an arthritic ankle I was somewhat reluctant to get an ankle replacement. After meeting with Dr. Raikin I decide to take that step. I was so happy to see that Dr Raikin participated with my insurance! I researched and found that he is in the top 25 total ankle replacement surgeons in the US. I was able to get an appt easily. His office staff is pleasant and very efficient. He has a great support staff—C Savitch CRNP and Chardonnae -his nurse. My surgical experience was excellent—btw, I am a RN and can be very critical of my care. Post op pain was well controlled. I am 4 months post op and am walking on my ankle and wearing shoes that I had been unable to wear and walk in for years because of severe ankle pain. He always spends time and addresses concerns and answers questions and is genuine with his demeanor. I am thankful for being able to be treated by him. Dr. Raikin performed my total ankle replacement 17 years ago and I am now 75 and still going strong. Dr. Raikin is the best in the world! The surgery was relatively new when I had mine. I followed his postop instructions exactly…and the result was no pain. I am able to walk distances as far as 5-10 miles with no problem. Dr. Raikin and this surgery were definitely a real blessing and improved my quality of life for the last 17 years.

Dr Steven is a great dr he keeps it’s real and do not sugar coat nothing he did my surgery has very excellent beside manner

Based on my experience with several Orthopaedic surgeries, I’d rate Dr. Raikin’s diagnostic, OR technical and overall professional experience as A+ — truly exceptional. With his intervention, I went from walking with exaggerated gait with a crooked foot to normal walking.

Dr. Raikin has performed two surgeries on the lower part of my right leg to deal with injury-related arthritis in my right ankle. The injury dates back nearly 50 years when I suffered total fractures of the tibia and fibula. The 1st surgery was complex — an osteotomy of the tibia and fibula with bone graft. The 2nd was an ankle replacement. He has always been informative and willing to answer questions. Given the complexity of the combination of the surgeries 2 1/2 months apart, the result thus far has been encouraging. I have much less pain, but not enough flexibility to run much more than about 50 yards.

I was very fortunate to be a patient of Dr Raikin who is one of the best ankle surgeon.After my total ankle replacement I am living a normal life full of energy and totally pain free. Thanks to him for his exceptional clinical judgment and surgical skill.

Dr. Raikin completed an achilles tendon surgery to repair the tendon and remove the bone spurs. He explained the process so I knew what the recovery would be like. It's been 3 months since the surgery and while I've had some challenges with the incision healing, Dr. Raikin has been available for questions and sincerely interested in my recovery. I love his sense of humor and willingness to take time to listen even when his schedule is super full. I would highly recommend him and his team.

Dr. Raikin is an excellent surgeon. I had struggled 2 years with my Achilles’ tendon, and he offered a conservative approach to my surgery. I had a heel spur removed and a tendon moved to support my Achilles. I am well on my way to complete recovery. His office staff has been wonderful and patient in answering my many questions.

Excellent Doctor Who solved my problem is when nobody else could. Fantastic bedside manner. Amazing technical skill.

So far I’ve been having a wonderful experience with Dr. Raikin and his team. I’m only part way into my treatment for lisfranc fracture and will have one more surgery. Dr Raikin is an exceptional physician! His knowledge, experience and skillful hands have truly made a complete difference in my quality of life and physical mobility. I am 6 months post op from an ankle replacement in addition to many other corrective procedures in my foot and lower leg. He is a master carpenter with bones and the human body! His team of CRNP and support staff are likewise very supportive, prompt to return calls, and truly spend time with you when needed. Dr Raikin is a straight shooter when he is telling you the “game plan” ahead regarding your surgery and recovery, and then PT. If you listen and follow his orders precisely, you will have the outcome he offers. We live 2 hours from Dr Raikin’s office location and hospital. They are well worth the drive. I am so very grateful to this outstanding team. Their commitment to me inspires me to work hard in my daily rehab to have the best level of activity for the next 30+ years, God willing! Dr. Raikin operated on my right foot. It feels like a 100% turn around only a few months later. If I ever need another orthopedic surgeon or consult, I know who to call!

Dr. Raikin performed my left foot’s fibular sesamoidectomy. I opted for surgery because it was my last resort after non-surgical options didn’t fix the pain. Dr. Raikin made it clear that the surgery will be the easiest part and that recovery will be the most important & long part. He was right, surgery was a breeze and recovery was & has been the most difficult part. I am currently 3 months post-op and am still recovering. Everything Dr. Raikin did has worked but my body has been taking a while to heal. I highly recommend Dr. Raikin. Although I have read reviews that Dr. Raikin doesn’t have great bedside manner, I disagree. He is so positive and kind. He also doesn’t sugarcoat any issues which is what I was looking for in a doctor, because if I am doing something wrong I want to have my doctor tell me. Dr. Raikin performed surgery on my foot to eliminate very painful hammertoe and bunion conditions. He took more than sufficient time with me to explain options and answer questions. The anesthesiologist (Dr. Adamov) was superbly attentive before and after the surgery and always available to discuss pain medication adjustments. After surgery, Dr. Raikin and his staff were very accessible, responsive and kind. The entire process was efficient and system-wide quality control evident throughout.

I would strongly advise against an ankle replacement. I had an ankle replacement in Feb 2019 and was told I would be better than I was. I’m now confined to medicine and crutches and can barely walk without assistance. Think twice before ankle replacement!

Dr. Raikin is supposed to be the best, however, after an assault that resulted in a fractured foot, I could have ended up with an unnecessary surgery had I stayed with Rothman. Dr. Raikin does not have bedside manner and even gestured to my friend to make me stop crying when I was a little teary when hearing I would need multiple surgeries including screws and wires in my foot. He highly recommended surgery instead of keeping a boot on my foot. He diagnosed me with a condition that always needs a surgery, "like the athletes," he said. I went to Penn Orthopedics and got a second opinion. They did more types of x-rays and got a more comprehensive picture of my condition. They were able to completely rule out the diagnosis (because of physical evidence) I got at Rothman and told me surgery would have been completely unnecessary. My healing time is far reduced and I'm almost better thanks to Penn. The doctor was curt, and I have now received a large bill from Rothman to WRAP MY FOOT IN AN ACE BANDAGE! Neither the ER nor Penn charged me for that same exact service. Furthermore, when I called my insurance, Rothman should NOT have collected a copay, and Rothman never refunded me. I highly recommend that if you choose a consult at Rothman, you also get a second opinion. You may just find out that you do not need surgery, and you will also be treated better. This is important to me because I will require multiple visits to get new casts and boots, and I do not want to deal with less than nice people on staff. I went to Rothman on recommendation of the urgent care and my personal doctor after an assault that broke my foot in several places. Dr. Raikin seems like an expert - has that air to him that makes you feel he's the best, after all, he is highly regarded. He had no bedside manner and when I started to cry a bit after he told me I needed surgery, he asked my friend if I was alright in a flippant manner. He highly recommended the surgery saying my ligament was involved and I'd need screws and wires in my foot. Honestly, if he's the best surgeon, the lack of bedside manner doesn't matter much - the best is the best. However...... I got a second opinion at Penn Orthopedics and in that clinic, they had me do a standing x-ray to see if the ligament was involved and if surgery was really warranted. They told me there was no displacement and that I only needed a cast and boot. Given them having more information from doing another xray and treating me with more regard, I went with them. I am into my healing and further xrays show I made the right choice. It is SCARY that I almost got a needless surgery. The more I have spoken to people, the more they have said that Rothman is a machine that pushes surgery hard. I have no doubt Dr. Raikin would have done a fantastic job operating, but he was wrong in his diagnosis of my injury and therefore wrong in recommending surgery. Always seek a second opinion. I was referred to Dr. Raikin after fracturing my ankle on both sides. Based on my X-Ray and my overall health, surgery is not necessary for my ankle to heal properly. But, of course he pushed for surgery. I informed him that I’m starting a new job and quite honestly am not in the position to get surgery. He completely ignored it and basically said he lives in the medical world and if i want my ankle to heal then i need to get surgery. When I asked for recommendations on how to heal it at home he was very SHORT-barely gave any advice. Once I decided that I didn’t want to go through with surgery he didn’t want anything to do with my case honestly. I’m going to follow-up with him once more and then I’m going to go elsewhere. Dr. Raikin is a superb surgeon. Having had two bunionectomies 14 years ago by Dr. Raikin when I was in my mid-50s, I can speak with a high degree of experience given my health outcomes. Dr. Raikin is exceedingly thoughtful and considerate. During my first visit, X-rays of my feet were taken and he laid out the options right then and there. At the conclusion of that visit, a date was set for pre-op testing, and a another for the surgery. Post/surgery unfolded as he indicated, and I adhered to his plan. Went back to work two weeks later. Follow up care was straight forward. I am the type of person who adheres to medical advice. Three months later, I went back to my normal workouts including swimming, running, and spinning. Fourteen years later, I am still doing these sports at least five days a week. I do not wear heels nor tight shoes. Dr. Raikin walks on water. One word: Competent and caring. I’m really surprised at people saying Dr. Raikin has no bedside manner. That was absolutely not my experience. He was thorough, took time to answer my questions and explained everything so well, I hardly had any. He was personable, sufficiently sympathize - what more would you want?

I truly could not have chosen a better surgeon than Dr. Raikin; I meticulously followed all of his instructions and am extremely pleased that the result is exactly what he described to me beforehand! HORIBBLE! Because I went to HSS in 2018 for a Total Ankle Replacement surgery due to a job change in North Jersey, now that I live in Philadelphia and have other foot problems he refused to see me. PLUS HE WILL NOT SEND MY CASE TO ANY OTHER SURGEON AT ROTHMAN DUE TO HIS EGO!! You call that PROFESSIONAL! What a JOKE! I thought PROFESSIONAL SURGEONS ARE SUPPOSED TO HELP PEOPLE. He may be a good surgeon, but his tactics are RUTHLESS!

Dr. Raiken did a total ankle replacement for me more than 10 years ago. At this time I am walking between 10 and 11 thousand steps every day. It is truly amazing!

Absolutely great. Dr Raikin fully explained my ankle condition, was honest in his appraisal of my prospects for corrective surgery and arranged for an alternate treatment. Better to get opinions from HSS or Premier Orthotics. Dr. Raikin does not follow through on a treatment plan post surgery, he does not support pain management, and does not address complications in a timely manner if at all. For a basic procedure he may be acceptable.

My experience and surgery with Dr Rakin was amazing. I look forward to allowing him to perform my alternate foot at a later date.

Dr. Raikin has performed both my ankle surgeries in 2001 & 2007. Both have held up great. He is very knowledgeable & a great surgeon. He's the first surgeon I go to whenever I experience any medical issues with my ankles. I totally trust his judgement. I would highly recommend him.

Consult regarding chief complaint of chronic ankle pain and surgical option.

I saw Dr. Raikin over a year ago and my 1st impression of him was that his bedside manner could be better. So I gave him the benefit of the doubt. I went back last week since I was having increased pain. First of all, waited over an hour to been seen and there was no apology from anyone. Saw Dr. Raikin and his attitude was exactly the same. He was condescending and rude. Pulled up an MRI from 20 months ago and said it was fine. He wouldn’t even order another MRI to compare. Why are we talking about something that happened 20 months ago? The medical student that was with Dr. Raikin said to me afterwards, “I know it seemed that Dr. Raikin dismissed your pain, but he is the best in his field.” Good assessment skills and observation by the medical student!! He was spot on!! Being a nurse for 20 years, you learn that communication and effective listening is key to develop a rapport with a patient. He may be the best according to others in skill, but lacking in being sympathetic.

Dr Raikin performed a toe joint fusion on my right foot. My foot is now totally mangled by his ineptitude. I can barely walk on it. He is very rushed and hurried and did not take proper care. I do not recommend him.

Had recent ankle surgery with Dr Raikin. Feel confident I selected a good surgeon. His staff have also been great in responding to my past surgical questions as well. The only difficulty is Rothman will not assist to provide the medical necessity Info insurance requires to approve transport from rehab surgical center.

Dr. Raikin recently replaced my ankle , and corrected a detached bone. I find him to be very professional and knowledgeable. His staff in the office and hospital are excellent. I am still recovering, hoping this long recovery is worth in in the end.
