Dr. Susan Yurgel Hunsinger

Best provider my family has ever seen. She cared for all 3 of my children since 2006 and we miss her terribly. When my 2-year-old son was having difficulty breathing, she diagnosed pneumonia and sent us straight to Baptist. The attending was unable to detect the pneumonia with a stethoscope and had to order an X-ray. The pneumonia showed in the exact lobe that Dr. Hunsinger heard in her office (without an X-ray). AMAZING! Beyond being an excellent clinician, she is a wealth of knowledge about all subjects children and loves to discuss current books on behavior and alternative medicine. I highly recommend her.

We terribly miss Dr. Hunsinger since she has retired! Our children, now ages 13 and 11, have seen Dr. Hunsinger since birth. We moved from the community when our children were young but we drove over 30 minutes to continue to return to her practice because we had complete confidence in the wisdom and care she provided and knew she was irreplaceable. Dr. Hunsinger is always compassionate and genuinely cares for her patients. She considers each child’s needs and overall well-being when individualizing treatment options. She provides support for families and talks parents through challenging situations and referrals for specialized care. Dr. Hunsinger is very knowledgeable and always on top of the latest medical research information. We always felt like Dr. Hunsinger was an advocate for our children and their well being. Dr. Hunsinger is very thorough, answers your questions and takes the time to get to know your family. She is our favorite, and she is the BEST!! - A true blessing!

Our family misses Dr. Hunsinger since she has retired but she is a phenomenal pediatrician! We have 4 children and she has seen all of them since birth, with the oldest being 14! She is very informative, knowledgeable, sincere and cares about the profession and all children and their families! We drove 25 minutes to see her every time!

I had the privilege of working with Dr. Hunsinger for four years, and would definitely recommend her to my peers. If you're looking for a doctor who knows you by name, spends ample time with you, and thinks outside the box, she is your physician! I've never worked with such a caring and devoted physician, and I haven't found one since!

Dr. Susan has been our pediatrician for 9 years. She is absolutely amazing. She is the most caring, knowledgeable and dedicated doctor that I know. When my son had pneumonia and was very ill she called to check on him after hours and over the weekend. She gave my daughter one of her stuff animals when she went through a tough illness and had to get antibiotic shots. My daughter still sleeps with “ franchesca “today. She often counseled and lifted me up when I needed encouragement as a mother . She truly cares about her patients and is constantly learning and expanding her knowledge base to help her patients. She is holistic and thinks about the entire child and family . I can’t say enough great things about Dr. Susan !

Amazing and caring doctor!!

My children grew up, from infancy, with Dr Hunsinger as their pediatrician. Over the 18 years she cared for my children, she became more than a doctor to all of us. ‘Dr Susan’ was collaborative, creative, helpful, thoughtful. Over the years, she she provided the most outstanding care for my kids. I wouldn’t have wanted anyone else as their doctor. I never left her office without a short list of reading material that was always exactly what I needed. I can say, with absolute certainty, that without her tenacity and constant continued education in her field, we would never have found the solution that completely resolved the anxiety and distress that one of our kids struggled with for years. As college students now, my kids still tell me how much they miss Dr Susan and we all know how lucky we were to have had her all those years. If she were to practice medicine again or work with children again, in any capacity, I would absolutely recommend her to my friends and family.

I would encourage anyone looking for a pediatrician to look elsewhere. Dr. Hunsinger is not who she appears to be. When I expressed concern over why a testing referral note that she had recommended had not been faxed, she became extremely angry and was very unkind. It was shocking, and I have never experienced behavior like that from a healthcare provider before or since.

Best pediatrician we could ask for. Helpful, patient, and knowledgeable.

Took three children to her before changing pediatricians. Undoubtedly, the worst clinical approach I have encountered - she is not well informed with regard to medications, failed to follow-up on referral requests, belligerent and arrogant when I asked for explanation of course of treatment and would not include my objection to a medical note in child's medial record. I would not recommend this pediatrician to anyone.

We have worked with Dr. Hunsinger for 13years as well as prior to having children as she referred cases for therapy to WFUBMC. My 3 children have been under her care. She is remarkable and creative. She takes time to discuss concerns and can think outside of the "box." We have been pleased with her care and would not trust anyone else with my complex children.

Dr. Hunsinger was recommended to me by another family with 3 children that have all seen her for years. I am new to the area & needed a good Dr. for my son. Well, she was wonderful! Very kind, thorough and professional. She took her time and went over everything. She asked if I had any concerns and seemed genuinely interested. She was great with my son too! Before ending our appt, she gave us lots of handouts about middle school and some suggested readings to prepare both of us. Love her!!
