I cannot say enough about Dr. Pickens; he is honestly one of the BEST doctors out there! He listens. Doesn't make you feel rushed. Truly takes the time out of his day to make you feel valued as a patient; his ability to explain and discuss medical issues to individuals who aren't doctors themselves is truly a blessing. I would recommend to anyone who is serious about obtaining a great eye doctor!

I really appreciated Dr. Pickens taking the time to explain my eye condition and my options.

My husband is hard of hearing and is dealing with some very concerning vision issues. Dr Pickens speaks up so he can hear him and takes his time explaining everything and answering our questions. It is so appreciated and makes my husband feel like he is being respected. We feel like Dr Pickens is an involved professional who cares about helping my husband retain his sight which is so important in light of his hearing issues. His assistant Liz is also very caring and considerate

I've never felt more comfortable with an eye exam than I had with Dr. Pickens. I was having several issues with my eyes that were unsettling. Dr. Pickens diagnosed and explained in detail what I was dealing with and developed an action plan to mitigate the the problems. He was empathetic and I left with a prognosis that I understood and could react to. I highly recommend Dr. Pickens

Smooth, easy appointment. Very limited wait time. Dr. Pickens was attentive, thorough, and explained things well. I was pleased with the service provided across the board and would recommend this practice to others based on my experience. My only "do better" would be to be told ahead of the appointment that having my eyes dilated was going to be part of the appointment. I'd have planned better!

This was my first visit to Dr. Pickens, and I couldn't be more impressed. I though my previous eye doctor in NY was good, but this doctor and practice is way better. They explained every procedure and went over the results in detail. And although my news isn't great, they are taking steps to help control my situation. Highly recommend.

Dr. Pickens is very caring and most importantly an expert in his field. He is outstanding. I have been going to him for many years, and I recommend him highly for anything in his domain. As an active listener, he is caring, compassionate and attentive as he treats me as a valued patient/person and remembers the details of my life beyond the walls of the clinic. He eases my comfort zone as he is never rushed and allows me time to ask questions and to express my concerns. He is never condescending nor intimidating as he explains things in terms that I can understand and shows respect for my boundaries as he allows me to have input into my care plan. This is an outstanding facility. The entire staff work together well as a team. They are extremely professional patient, and friendly. From scheduling appointments, to examinations, to making sure that the patient understands exactly what to expect, to check out, I could not ask for a more positive experience.

Dr. Pickens has been my doctor for approximately 8 years- shortly after I moved to Southport. I find him to be very competent and detailed and I have an eye condition. My other half also goes to him, as well as other family members and they feel as I do! I trust my eyesight to Dr. Pickens and highly recommend him to others whenever I can!

Dr. Pickens is personable, responsive, and attentive. He is responsive to questions and takes the time to ensure I understood what I needed to know. I felt he was genuinely concerned about my eyes and I was very satisfied with the evaluation and post-operative follow up he performed.
