This place has top notch and very friendly, welcoming, and professional staff. I was referred here from my obgyn in Stockton and I have had the best experience ever. Dr. Vikas Mahavni is one of the best oncologist here, but without the help of his wonderful medical team and medical assistant, his wonderful handy work and care would not be possible. Though being treated by another doctor, the staff at Kaiser South Sacramento is still very compassionate and very accommodating to my feelings and open for support the best they can. Thank you to Kathy Mason, Catherine Chandavong, and Dr. Vik Mahavni, I know and trust that I am in good hands and look forward to seeing you in the future. My experience with Dr. Vikas Mahavni was horrible. I had to have a hysterectomy and he was going to use the daVinci Robot claiming it was the newest technology, the least invasive and I would recover and be back to work in 2 to 3 weeks. I went into surgery around 2:30 pm and was out of recovery around 8:00 pm. The next morning around 10:00 am, Dr. Mahavini came in to check on me. He told me it was time to go home (a two hour car ride just 14 hours after a major surgery which took several hours longer than it was supposed to - no explanation given) but before he left my room, I suffered a horrendous diaphragmatic seizure for about 10 minutes (per my sister and friend at my bedside). I could barely sip air in or exhale out. I thought I would suffocate. It was so painful and without enough oxygen, I could not speak, only take tiny gasps. It took Dr. Mahavini all of those 10 minutes to get some pain medication to knock me out so the seizure would stop. Before falling asleep I pleaded to stay in the hospital another night. I felt terrible from the surgery and scared after the seizure and inability to breath. Dr. Mahavni told me to go home and take more pain medication if I had another seizure. I slept for a few hours, then a man dressed in a suit (very Twilight Zone) brought a wheel chair to my hospital room and said it was time to go home. He wheeled me to the car, helped me get in the passenger seat, gave me a pillow and waved good bye. Two hours home in commute traffic on a 5 lane freeway then windy roads. For weeks I suffered horridly. No bowl movements for two weeks. Two trips to the ER for abdominal pain. Multiple trips to my local OBGYN to check for problems with healing. Grotesque and frightening swelling and discoloration of entire vaginal area and lymphedema in legs. I went into the surgery weighing 123 lbs and came home weighing 136 lbs. I was told that was normal. I was told not to have intercourse for 12 weeks. I was nervous, so waited 16 weeks. When I finally got up the nerve, my vaginal cuff (where the incision had been made so the surgical team could barbarically (watch DaVinci hysterectomy on you tube) rip my uterus from my body) tore open and my intestines protruded through the gaping tear and out of my vagina. This required emergency surgery and another two months of healing. I have had multiple issues, and will have the rest of my life, since that ghastly surgery. Before the surgery, I had asked Dr. Mahavni about his level of experience and he said he had done thousands of hysterectomies. When I asked how many with the daVinci Robot he seemed off guard. There was a slight hesitation then he said, "About 250." I believe that was a lie. Per an investigation to settle law suits after patients were injured or died following daVinci surgeries, take a look at the training Dr. Mahavni likely received so he could operate with the DaVinci Robot: ...new doctors received as little as five minutes of hands-on experience with systems like the da Vinci during a typical surgery. In traditional surgery, residents may be required to help in some way throughout procedures, gaining valuable hands-on experience. Lawsuits also claim the standards for robot-assisted surgery training are not sufficient. Surgeons must complete the following steps to use the device: Take one hour of online training Watch two robotic procedures online (four hours) Spend seven hours operating on a pig Participate in at least two surgeries overseen by a surgeon with experience in robot-assisted procedures (https://www.drugwatch.com/davinci-surgery/lawsuits/) I would not trust Dr. Vikas Mahavni again and I would not recommend anyone trust him for care.

Yes, I agree that Dr. Mahavni takes his time with his patients and listens to them. But I he did a hysterectomy on me and cut my ureter (small tube that goes from kidney to bladder). I was in so much pain and it took several trips to the emergency and doctor's office before the doctors at the hospital discovered that my pain was from the damage to my ureter. Dr. Mahavni never even acknowledged the damage he did to me, nor apologized, nor did he ever follow up to see how I was doing. Needless to say that experience was horrific! I WOULD NOT recommend him to any one. I gave one star because this system doesn't let you choose zero
