Dr. Cunningham not only is an exceptional orthopedic surgeon, but he also has an exceptional bedside manner. This last visit, he went the extra mile to find a good, affordable solution for my problem. He is well aware of costs and how well (or not) his clients’ insurance companies cover them.

Summit County is lucky to have Dr Cunningham with Vail Summit orthopedic for at least 20 years. He understands your situation and truly is concerned for your successful recovery and treatment. In my situation I have degenerative knee arthritis that will end in a replacement at some point. This ski season I will use an unloader brace and cortisone shots to get through one more year . Dr. W STERETT was recommended to me from a friend who, like the both of us, are not locales (Milwaukee, Wisconsin USA and AUSTRALIA). I found his expertise evident in many scientific publications, writings and knowledge, -research homed in surgical techniques I will enjoy for a lifetime. Dr. Sterett’s team has NO bedside manner and do not listen or believe their patients. Dr. Sterett is nice enough but isn’t very cautious with other people’s bodies. He performed a second surgery on the injured location without any tests, which caused permanent injury and nerve damage. Ben, his PA, is a jerk and likes to belittle patients. I refused to see him. I first met Dr. Sterett and his team back in 2004 when I hard torn my Left ACL due to a ski racing injury. At the time many doctors were very hesitant to operate on me as I was young and still growing. After meeting with over 4 different doctors, my family and I chose Dr. Sterett for his professional, yet friendly demeanor and expertise on repairing young athletes torn ACLs. My ACL was repaired using a cadaver's ligaments due to my young age. The cadavers was expected to last about 4 years, but ended up lasting for 12 years, even through all my ski racing crashes!! When I re-tore my left ACL in 2016 I had no doubts that I wanted Dr. Sterett and his team to repair my knee again. This time Dr. Sterett had suggested using my quad tendon to replace my torn ACL as he said he had great success with using the quad especially for female athletes. After following Dr. Sterett's recovery and rehab plan I came back very strong and have had zero issues with my left knee. In January of 2021 I tore my right knee and yet again knew I would go back to Dr. Sterett and his team. I had torn my ACL and had a very bad bucket handle meniscus tear. I was able to see Dr. Sterett and his team on Wednesday and scheduled for surgery the next day! Dr. Joseph is great. I can see why so many people recommended I go to him. He listens, he cares, and he answers. I appreciate him and hopefully I won't have to have surgery, but if I do, I feel like I am in the best of hands.

One year out from ACL surgery on both knees (and a broken ankle) and couldn't be happier. Back to skiing, hiking and spinning, Feeling stronger than ever and glad that I am going into my 60's with knees to take me through the next 30 + years of adventures. Thank you for the great results.

My eldest son was nine years old when he was struck by a car and ruptured his ACL instantly. After searching the country for the most qualified knee surgeon to deal with a scary injury to a child his age. We found Dr. Sterett. He had worked on more youth ACL‘s than anyone else we could find. As you can imagine this is a very stressful time for my wife and I. After meeting Dr. Sterett we were quite sure that we had made the right decision. Dr. Sterett and his team are the best in the business. They recently fixed my fibula/ankle after a skiing injury and it was a seamless operation and now recovery. Dr. Sterett makes you feel like family! My husband and I have skied in Vail since the 70’s, adding family over the years, sons, their wives and grands! One early December day, I went up by myself and it was a whiteout, snowflakes were icing on the goggles. It was a bad day, very few people on the mountain. I fell and tore my ACL. The excellent ski patrol got me down to the hospital and the next day I saw Dr. Sterett. I was very impressed with him and his team (they were all so polite and accommodating) that I decided to have him do my ACL surgery. It went so well that I went back - from Kansas City - for two more surgeries (a chondroplasty and screw removal). All my surgeries with Dr. Sterett were very successful. He's a kind person, an excellent surgeon, and works with his patients to solve the problem. They always got me back on my feet coordinating with Team Sterett at Howard Head Physical Therapy, especially Matt! I will always recommend Dr. Sterett!

This is the first time I've been to Vail Ortho in quite a few years and I'm very disappointed. Read the paperwork you are given VERY carefully. Do not listen to the explanation the front desk gives you about what you're signing. If someone tells you that you are only paying a certain amount for your visit, a flat rate, question it. If the doctor you're seeing pushes for unnecessary procedures, get a second opinion and/or ask if there are additional costs. I received a bill for over $700 more than I was told I would be charged. After calling to work with Vail Ortho on this matter, there was nothing they could do and I must have been confused. I had someone with me the day I went in and they also heard what I heard. Dr Cunningham was very knowledgeable about knee injuries and his office was able to fit me in quickly. I highly recommend Dr Cunningham and his office!

We brought our 4 year-old son in to see Dr. Joseph with an injured leg. Many other doctors in the Valley would not take a pediatric case. Dr. Joseph was through, kind, and effectively treated his broken leg. The medical assistant was also fantastic!

Great doctor! Has a wonderful ability to actually listen to his patients! Has been practicing in this field for at least 30 plus years and still has the ability to learn and use the newest methods available all while teaching his team ! My shoulder surgery has been much less painful than two others I have had with a different doc. It was also more extensive, so you might assume the opposite.

I, too, have had my life ruined due to William Sterett. I dislocated my LEFT knee (ACL, PCL, MCL, LCL, class 4 lesion to the Patella, and a torn Meniscus). During the second surgery to repair the damage, while under the care of Dr. Sterett, Dr. Hackett and the Steadman Clinic, I got compartment syndrome on my lower "RIGHT" leg. Keep in mind they were operating on my "LEFT" knee. Before their acts of carelessness, I was competing in duathlons, rock climbing, mountain biking, climbing and snowboarding 14ers in Colorado, road biking, practicing yoga, lifting weights, mountaineering all throughout the Cascades and Rockies, skiing, snowboarding, hiking...pretty much living the Colorado dream. Now, none of that is possible. I will no longer be able to return to my normal active lifestyle. Neither Dr. Sterett, Dr. Hackett, nor the Steadman Clinic, has taken ownership in destroying a perfectly health leg. Leaving me to deal with a lifetime of complications. After the x-rays and MRI's he recommended physical therapy and training to determine any further need. After working very hard at it, I have now done the New York And Dallas marathons within a few minutes of the winning age group time in each. Having any kind of surgery is quite the undertaking, and finding the right surgeon for your procedure can be exhausting and nerve racking. After learning I had to undergo a complex knee surgery (torn meniscus, ACL, MCL, PCL), I did thorough research and narrowed my options down to 3 surgeons under 3 different companies. After meeting with all three, I can honestly say that Dr. Sterett is not only the best surgeon I could have gone with in the area, but the best surgeon in the country.

The two most impressive things about my experience with Dr. Sterett and the staff at VSO was the turn around time and his experience. I got injured on a Monday, had an MRI on Tuesday, a consult on Wednesday, and surgery on Thursday. That's unheard of back home where scheduling each of those appointments would have taken two or three weeks per appointment. I used the time for recovery instead. It was my first surgery and his expertise gave me confidence that I was going to be fine.

Dr Sterett was amazing! He is so knowledgeable and professional, but what I liked the most is he is very friendly and his bed-side manner is incredible. He felt like a good friend to me after my surgery and had me back enjoying my life much sooner than I had originally thought. If you have to get surgery, I highly recommend him.

William Sterett is a doctor that should not be trusted. He has put me in chronic pain from a knee surgery he performed on me for my patellar tendons. He never told me that he was one of only two doctors in the world that does this surgery and that there is no concensus amoung the medical community regarding surgery for patellar tendenitis. Just assured me of the unserious nature of the surgery. I lived a life free of pain but could not do quick starting and stopping and wanted to play softball and tennis again. I now cannot even enjoy watching sports on TV because of the constant pain. I currently could not do any job that I have previously have had. I believe the man belongs in the same jail cell as Bernie Madoff and the Steadman clinic should be shut down. He has since been fired from the Steadman clinic but unfortunately has decided to stay in Vail CO. The Steadman clinic has a research institute. I just did not know that they do research without patients knowledge. My life has been ruined because I went to the one clinic that does this surgery. I guess they did not feel it was necessary to let me know this. I was treated more like an experimental rat than a human being. Please be careful. Oh yes I forgot to say I have had my MRI looked at by a doctor he cureently works with and after reviewing each slide with him was told there was nothing wrong with my patellar tendons. He of course did not know at that time that I have had surgery or he would have never said such a thing. You will never get a doctor to say anything negative about another doctor. I would recommend going outside the Vail Valley for surgery. Do not be fooled by the massive marketing by Steadman and Sterett. William Sterett is a doctor that should not be trusted.
