Dr. Alfonso Chen

Dr. Chen is super sweet and helpful but the receptionist is awful. She always has an attitude and is super disrespectful and unhelpful. He should consider hiring someone else. UPDATE: Almost 2 years after I started to see Dr.Chen, i’ve officially decided to stop seeing him. For a long time I was able to pay my copays in advance literally JUST to avoid Martha at the front desk because she caused me so much anxiety with how disrespectful and rude she is. Dr.Chen is a mental health professional who deals with rather sensitive patients like myself who often feel things like anxiety when interactions with people like the office manager happen! I firmly believe that if you know you are working with this population of people, your office staff should be warm and welcoming! Anyway, after accidentally missing an appointment I attempted to call back after and reschedule, but as per usual, the phones were down! So i finally decided to say screw it and I have found myself a new Psychiatrist who I get to speak to directly to make my appointments and is so kind. I wish Dr.Chen all the best but I just couldn’t keep subjecting myself to dread each time I needed to call the office.

I am grateful we found Dr. Chen's practice about 5 years ago. Dr. Chen changed my daughter's life. He asks important questions and listens with intent - he really takes time to understand his patient's needs so he can prescribe appropriate medication and monitor drug/dosage efficacy. His calm, non-judgmental, and positive demeanor makes him welcoming and easy to open up too. I appreciate Martha, his office manager. We have always had positive experiences with her, in person and on the phone. She efficiently manages his busy office and takes time to show she cares - every interaction with her is positive and helpful. Lana is a new office team member - she is a friendly and helpful addition to the busy office. Thank you all for making a positive difference in the lives of others.

I have been with Dr. Chen for eight years. He brought me back from the brink. Now I am living a happy and fulfilling life. I am sorry that other people have found issue with his office staff, but that has never been my experience. Martha has been professional and very concsiencious. Whether scheduling or rescheduling, letting me know my insurance coverage or just reminding me of my appointments, she always is very polite, respectful, and has a smile ready. Martha is extremely unprofessional and I have since visited another office and been treated respectfully and like a human being. Martha needs training and has been rude in the past to me, at home,over the phone, and in person. I highly recommend mental health management group because this office is awful. Seek treatment elsewhere! Dr. Chen is okay but the front office staff makes things insufferable.

Martha is the worst. She is dismissive, rude, and does not care to take care of patients. Dr. Chen is okay…he doesn’t really help at all and I’ve had a bad experience. The combination has prompted me to move to a far better psychiatric practice. Save your time and skip this part place!

Dr. Chen is very compassionate, helpful and knowledgeable about psychiatry and I have no complaint about him; in fact, I feel lucky I had him as my psychiatrist. However, the service provided by the office staff is much to be desired. I had been seeing Dr. Chen for a couple of years and it was often difficult to get a hold of the receptionist for scheduling or medication issues. It was frequently a struggle to get appointments scheduled/rescheduled over the phone, or get my prescription refilled because the office staff was not responsive. If I had to get a refill or get any medical questions answered quickly, I had to go back to get an appointment with him. This is not okay for quick medication management/adjustment for any health issues, especially mental health issues as we all know the consequence of have the wrong psychiatric medication or the wrong dosage may be severe. Additionally, almost every time I went to his office, I had to wait at least an hour for a 15-min appointment to see him as they often double booked clients. I stopped seeing him for a while because of these reasons and covid. Now I tried to go back to see him and called the office SEVERAL times but I've never heard back from them. Every time I called, either it went straight to voicemail or it told me the line was busy. If you want a good psychiatrist who is knowledgable and attentive to your needs, Dr. Chen is a great choice. If you want a frustration free service AND a good psychiatrist, I'd strongly recommend you go somewhere else.

I have been Dr. Chen's patient for many years. Due to his excellent care he has expertly assisted me with overcoming two major depressive episodes to date. Dr. Chen is a kind and caring counselor who excels at understand his patient's situation. I've been seeing Dr. Chen for nearly a year. It's been the best experience ever. I needed someone with an extreme level of knowledge and a good ear to get me on the road to recovery. He's done amazing things to help me through the hardest time of my life, I was giving up hope I'd be able to overcome it all. He is compassionate and listens well. I aam so very thankful to have him as my doctor. Lastly, I found peace in him having a smaller office with Martha (best receptionist ever) working hard to keep up with all the patients. She is always smiling and keeps good records (my visits require fax transmittals of all sessions) never any issue. I've always got my follow-ups schedule ahead with her help. She's my last contact before leaving, I see her as a breath of fresh air making me smile before walking out the door into the BIG world. Thank you Dr. Chen and Martha!!! Been seeing Dr. Chen for many years and truly believe he is an wonderful doctor. Professional, courteous and never feel rushed out the door. The difference is that he talks with you not at you like too many doctors do today. Martha is very sweet, helpful and always has a smile for you - a refreshing sparkle among dullness. I give this doctor's office 5 stars because from the first phone call trying to make an appointment, the secretary Martha was so nice. I have had trouble with other doctors offices not being kind. Martha was sweet, compassionate & knowledgeable. She got me set up with an appointment with no troubles. The office was very clean & I felt at ease with everything. I was referred to Dr. Chen from my previous doctor around 10 years ago when was he was retiring. From the very beginning, he was courteous, friendly, and provided excellent care. Each visit never feels rushed. He listens to my concerns and answers any questions I may have. Before I had gone on a long trip, he discussed possible issues that may occur with my well-being and solutions. I have and continue to feel comfortable and well taken care of.

Dr. Chen's office was recommended to me by a family member. Dr. Chen and his assistant Martha are wonderful! They are very attentive and I always make me feel comfortable. It is sometimes hard to find the right fit when looking for a doctor so I am so glad that Dr. Chen's office was recommended to me.

I really like Dr. Chen. Been a patient of his for about 2 years now, after struggling for years to find a decent Dr. after my previous psychiatrist retired. He's not perfect, as he doesn't usually go all that deep into anything beyond symptoms and med management, but he's not a/my therapist so it's not a big deal for me, but I know for some that might be important or good to know. That said, he DOES listen and will even look over your chart while talking to make sure everyone is on the same page. Very willing to explore options and dosages with patient feedback - within reason I assume. Hours are funky so you have to get used to that if you need to reach the office, but the admin, Martha, is a total sweetheart and I like seeing her too whenever I go into the office.

Dr. Chen is excellent at noticing subtle details in behavior and conditions and adjusting medications based on that! He's very responsive to questions and generally pays attention to what I've said about my present emotions. He changed my medications shortly after I started seeing him, and the change has been excellent for my mental health and sleep.

Dr Chen has helped me get my mental health back to normal after many manic and depression episodes. He aided me through the highs and the lows. Dr. Chen gave me my life back he listened to me every step of the way. He has helped change my life tremendously and I am forever grateful for his patience, knowledge, and over all care for my mental health. Dr Chen zeroed in my issue right away. This after 30 years of trying to get to the bottom of the issue. Many other Dr.'s and medical professionals did not come close to anything satisfactory. In truth it has been life changing. Thank you Dr. Chen.

I took my father to Dr. Chen for help with Parkinson's disease. He was experiencing anxiety, insomnia and depression and was on many medications. Dr. Chen was able to manage these symptoms and the interactions of all the medications so my dad has a much better quality of life now. We are so thankful for Dr. Chen and his expertise.

Dr Chen saved my mom's life over 20 yrs ago.She was in very bad shape mentally.He really cared for her and listened to her.If a medication didn't work he would try another until he got it right.Fast forward,he has been my Dr for the last ten yrs.He is awsome,always takes his time with me.He have an awesome bond.Thank you Dr Chen for saving my life too
