Upon recommendation of a local eye doctor I visited Dr Berger to fix a problem that I had with a previous eye surgery. He was very informative and professional. He answered all of my concerns and gave me a few options to correct my problem. Without any pressure he helped me make the best choice for my surgery. My experience was 100% satisfactory. I drive over 1 1/2 hours and it is worth every extra mile. I must say also - the staff is the best anywhere!! They are always so helpful and accommodating. I am thankful I found Bay Are Eye Institute.

I wasn’t given information by the doctor, but every time I called the office manager tell me something in my report that I wasn’t aware of or something that I said that I didn’t say, and snd something the doctor said that I was not aware of. they were very aggressive with their billing which is overbilling to begin with, and no other doctor would charge me. I honestly feel flimflam I’m not talking a lot of money it cost me more money to make this comment and write the letters I had two exams from 2 eye doctors exams in different offices one in USF and One at family medicine? After my two previous visits with Dr Bergers office Initially i was not able to compare until I went to two other Eye Doctors for 2nd opinions now looking back and having An experience with Dr Bergers office. During Both my visits at Bergers office, i made it clear I did not need glasses prescription but as a matter of rote habit they snd the others did but the others did not charge unless I wanted a prescription I had a discussion with my office manager twice each time she was a Termanology dilated or you did this so you did that so I paid $50 at the door approximately when I get a bill later on $45 my total cost out of pocket with his office is approx $95 two other doctors I went to my auto part it was under $35. Once it was like $20 I got the same treatment I did the same I exams. I probably wouldn’t be making this comment. If they did bill me aggressively and overcharging me I had the experience twice with the office manager, she convinced me I paid the bill, out of simplicity and after going to the other doctors i realize I was getting overcharged. And the other reason I’m writing this when I saw the nasty later they wrote me. Regarding the Medicare bill, I have an 800 credit score threatening me with Collections for a $45 bill. My total bill without with insurance was about 100 with the two other doctors it was approx 25 to 35 . And additionally, it’s like a factory you go in and you just testing you do for the potential of glasses even if you say you don’t want glasses but I wasn’t even told my vision I made that clear on bothie appointments I paid in the office I was 55 and I get another bill later on I’m surprised I just I discussed it with office manager I even wrote to the office demanding a refund and and I also wrote to the their billing agency. I never received any type of response I said that I would be be going online to express this issue I wasn’t told anything he doesn’t talk to you but when I call up the office manager, she tells me many things that are on the record that I wasn’t even aware of addition, I was given conflicting reports on my to visits with others doctors and they are very good doctors USF and one at family medicine

Dr. Berger performed my cataract surgery. His incredible staff provided caring service at every step of the way! Dr. Berger spent time with me explaining the procedure and carefully giving me all possible outcomes, negative and positive. He is meticulous and pays attention to every detail, an approach often neglected in today's health world. I had incredible results! Thank you to all staff and Dr. Berger!

The doctor is OK. But you should be careful for the test they recommend to you as that may not benefit your health needs. I was recommended a test and said it may not be covered. I did not understand well but checked it. After my insurance company denied the claim because it needs more information is from them. After some communications between them and my insurance company, they filed claim again. This time the claimed amount is different from the first one. It was denied again for the reason that the test was experimental and investigational by nature. When I told them that the experiment or investigational test benefits doctor for his or her research, and not for my health need. We should not pay for it. But they then said the insurance company said this way. They said that it was not, and the test is not covered by most insurance companies, which was not what they said first as "may not". Don't get cheated in agreeing doing a test without understanding it. The doctor is OK. But you should be careful for the test they recommend to you as that may not benefit your health needs. After these surgeries I have near 20/20 vision. I' m also impressed with the kind and professional care that I received from his staff and office crew. Dr Craig Berger is a trustworthy doctor and skilled surgeon. I been under his care for years and he was recommended to me by my daughter Dr. Iriana Belongie. Recently I had cataract surgery and the results are excellent, I do not need to use any eye glasses and my vision is 20/25 He is calm, soft spoken and very well prepared Ophthalmologist, that works in a conservative way giving people good care. I couldn't be happier with the results of my recent cornea transplant by Dr. Berger, who not only is top notch in his profession, but is a very compassionate surgeon who takes the time to alleviate any presurgical fears and answered all my questions.

I recently had corneal crosslinking done by Dr Berger on my left eye just a few days ago. Prior to the surgery, I was super nervous and anxious but Dr Berger + his team made the experience super smooth-sailing and comfortable. I have never been a fan of doctors, surgeries, etc but they took their time and understood my anxiousness, and were very very patient when it came to performing the surgery and making sure that me, their patient, being comfortable was their #1 priority. They dimmed the lights, maintained light/comfortable conversation, and let me play whatever music I wanted throughout the procedure. I had crosslinking done in both eyes by Dr. Berger and his staff. The procedure was successful and my keratoconus is not progressing anymore.

Dr. Berger has been my corneal specialist since 2008 and he is the most professional, caring and meticulous doctor I know. He is more than willing to answer any questions I have and appointments are never rushed. I will never be willing to trust my precious vision to any other doctor.

Wasted my whole day , first they said my insurance plan covers it and later on while visiting they rejected. Lack of knowledge on front desk.

I was so nervous going in because I haven't gone to an opthalmologist since I was really little but they made me feel so welcome and they even told me what everything did and how it worked before they did it. They were amazing. Five stars!

I am seeing quite well after cataract surgery last week. I have been extremely near sighted most of my life in addition to a mid life diagnosis of keratoconus. Now, I have both good near and far sight. I do not need glasses to drive or to read most fonts or styles of print. I am very pleased with the results of my surgery.

I did research and found Dr. Berger. He performed my cataract surgery on my left eye and used a toric lense. I am extremely happy with the results! My boyfriend who has Keratoconus for years. Just recently become a patient of Dr Berger. I must say that Dr Berger who is also a medical doctor, is excellent and kind. Even though it seems that he is a man with a few words, he is clear and precise with his care. Vision is very important. Yet, there are very few eye doctors there who actually care because eyes are not theirs that they have to care for. My boyfriend becomes his patient because of the progress of his condition (Keratoconus). Unlike the others, most eye doctors and staff who will normally say "just avoid sunlight" or "put more eye drops in" , Dr Berger looks into his "eyes" carefully and treat them with caution. We did make the choice to have the first cross linking surgery. He is healing so far. I am confident that the outcome will be great and he will be ready for the next one (for the other eye). I believe that Dr Berger has very keen medical judgement and genuine concerns for patients. I would highly recommend him to any of my loved ones. On top of that, his staff is the A-team. I can't name all the staff at his office. Yet, they are all beyond exceptional. Dr. Craig Berger is thoughtful and caring; professional and thorough; he is an expert in his field and really cares for his patients. He is very smart and gets the job done, but is patient and very kind with his patient. He is very professional and we are very happy that Dr. Berger is here in Tampa for all of our eye needs. Every time I come into this office everyone is so nice and they make you feel welcomed. I completed the cross-linking procedure in my right eye and I was so scared but they made me feel comfortable and relaxed and now I’m ready for my next eye. Highly recommend.

Dr. Berger and his staff are extremely knowledgeable in the care of Keratoconus and other advanced eye disorders. He is the only board certified Eye surgeon in the Tampa area that offers non invasive Cross Linking procedure to treat Keratoconus which I have. With the help of him and his staff, my eyesight definitely has improved. I highly recommend Bay Area Eye Institute.

Wasted almost 2 hrs of my time at this terribly crowded, over booked clinic for the doctor to spend about 3 mins with me. I have not had an eye exam in 2 yrs but did not get a thorough eye exam. The bathroom was shockingly dirty even for a public or gas station bathroom. Instead of handing me my prescription for eye drops I was told it will be called in to my drugstore, two days later, no script has been called in or faxed. I'm sure even medicaid patients are treated better. Go elsewhere for your eye problems......... I went to see Dr. T. Pusateri today, 7/31/2018 at Florida Eye Center and received a thorough eye exam totally unlike the 2 eye exams I received at Dr. Berger's. Also I have been using the same walgreen's for almost 30 yrs & would never give the wrong tel number. It would be nice to Dr Berger's office admit their own mistakes.... additionally, they should know what a complete eye exam is..... it is not 2 hrs of waiting for a 3-5 mins of actual visit & test. Dr. Berger is a good doctor but make sure you build at least an hour wait time into your schedule. I’ve visited there several times and it’s rare I wait less than an hour to be seen.

I am 67 years and seen many eye-doctors in the past for chronic-dry eyes. I can indeed state that this doctor has been the best, most professional and honest doctor I have seen so far. I do indeed recommend him to anyone, including members of my immediate family.

Dr. Berger, and his staff, are great! It is my strong feeling that I would recommend him, without reservation. He performed Cataract Surgery on both of my eyes, with amazing results. Choosing to upgrade to the Restor Lense was wonderful. Now I have 20/20 vision in both eyes and no longer require glasses. Couldn't be happier!!

I recently (March 2019) completed the last of my post-op visits with Dr. Craig Berger at Bay Area Eye Institute in Tampa Fl. and wanted to comment on my experience. After much research, I scheduled my initial visit with Dr. Berger in the fall of 2018. I had moved to central Florida and was looking for a surgeon to complete work that I needed done. Prior to the move, I had successful cataract surgery done on my left eye by another doctor. I knew that due to a cornea condition known as Fuchs' Dystrophy, I would need cornea transplants done on both eyes as well as the second cataract surgery. Prior to the surgeries, my vision was very blurry, like looking through an extremely dirty window. I couldn't drive at night and reading was becoming more difficult. I was losing my eyesight. Dr. Berger handled the second cataract surgery and performed what is referred to as DMEK cornea transplant surgery on both eyes to address the Fuchs' Dystrophy. ​ Today, I can see clearly and have 20/30 vision without glasses!​ I cannot thank Dr. Berger enough for the excellent work that he has done for me. I am forever great full to him for restoring my eyesight!! Needless to say, I would recommend him to anyone seeking a quality eye surgeon. After seeing another ophthalmologist for many years, I lost the vision in my left eye due to a very thick cataract, caused by his reluctance to remove, and a failed cornea transplant he performed. That doctor was reluctant to perform a “triple” operation (cataract removal, lens insertion and cornea transplant) to restore my sight. Frustrated, I consulted with Dr. Berger. He researched my existing conditions, made observations of my eye and performed the “triple” procedure. My vision was restored right after the operation. In addition, Dr. Berger recommended the use of a scleral contact lens in my right eye to improve my vision. Lisa, his Ophthalmic Technician/Manager, refracted me and with her patience fitted me with one that is very comfortable and has improved the vision in my right eye. I am very thankful for finding Dr. Berger and his willingness to go forward with this challenging triple procedure considering the condition of my left eye. As I have a technical background, I appreciate Dr. Berger’s technical and physician knowledge, and his detailed explanation of a procedure he recommends. Dr. Berger saved my eyesight!!! His care was compassionate, conservative and he is a true professional in his field. I contracted a severe fungal infection in one of my eyes and my vision was severely impaired when I first saw Dr. Berger. He quickly determined a cornea transplant was needed. Three months later I am back to living a active life with stable vision in both eyes. My questions and concerns are always answered quickly by Dr. Berger and his team. Everyone in the practice makes my husband and I feel we are all in my recovery together. We never felt ignored and emergency visits were handled the same day always receiving the best treatment possible. I prayed for a cure and I received a great physician who restored my vision and eliminated a harmful infection. Thank you Dr. Berger and team.

Dr. Berger performed my Cataract Surgery and I couldn't be happier with the final result. I found the doctor to be professional, understanding and willing to listen to my concerns. The procedures went very well, with minimal discomfort, if any at all. The final result is 20/20 vision in both eyes and no need to wear glasses anymore.

I was given a referral to Dr. Berger from my Retina Specialist to deal with cornea & calcium build-up issues. I am quite pleased with my outcomes. Most importantly, he is very responsive to my questions and answers in laymans terms and exhibits concern/empathy to patients!

Worst experience ever. Spent over $1000 dollars and can't even get basic things like a prescription.

Dr Berger can be rude and distant. My last visit with consisted of a 2 hours wait; his staff closed the office and he forgot about my scheduled appointment. He failed to see me that day. He answered by asking if I still wanted to use him "or what"? My cataract operation, the one that he performed, resulted in double vision. He said there was nothing he could do since there were no guarantees from any operations. My eyes watered so badly after the operation that he diagnosed the condition of dry eyes and for several months tired punctal plugs. The irritation from that trial and error was totally unacceptable. I couldn't drive at night and could no longer read for any length of time. I finally changed Ophthalmologists and found out quickly that the double vision was correctable by the use of a prism lens in my left eye. The double vision and watering eyes stopped immediately. When I asked Dr Berger's staff for access to my records I was told the on-line system was not working. It's still not working and I still don't have access to my records. Stay away from this Dr.; you can do better! Dr Berger can be rude and distant. If I could leave ZERO STARS I would. I was referred to Dr. Berger for a second opinion by my ophthalmologist. 45 minute drive, over an hour wait and he spent less than 5 minutes with me, rattled off a diagnosis so fast I didn't understand a word he said, handed me a piece of paper with instructions and had the nerve to also hand me my chart to hand to the receptionist on the way out. I have no faith in this doctor's expertise and would not trust him with my care.

I was looking for eye dr for my husband and myself. I Googled 10 top cataract surgeons in Tampa and Dr Berger's name was on top of the list. I called for appointment, was surprised to get appointment in few days. Dr Berger is very knowledeable,caring and professional, his staff is excellent. He spent a lot of time during my first visit to check thoroughly condition of the eyes. I was very impressed! I need a cataract surgery and feel very comfortable to let Dr.Berger do this surgery.

Dr Berger is one 0f a handful of Opthamologists in FL performing Corneal Cross Linking for Keratoconus. His out of pocket charge is comparatively more reasonable. Under his care, my eye is progressing positively within 6 mos. My other eye will undergo the same procedure. During my first appointment, Dr. Berger answered my numerous questions but his personality was flat,distant w/minimal patient interactivity. Within 6mos his personality is less stiff and interacts more easily. Fabulous staff!!

At first, Dr Berger is rather quiet and I wasn’t impressed with his bedside manner at first. However, after a few appointments... he opened up some and was friendlier. You have to take the first step with him. But, his work is excellent. He checked and double checked to make sure things were going right. I had a cataract removed, then had to have a cornea transplant and I can say that it was worth it. His staff is also to be commended, as they helped me in many ways from questions to meds.

Due to a sudden emergency I emailed the office on a Sunday requesting a new patient appointment. I received a response the same day from Dr. Berger himself asking for us to come in first thing Monday morning. Dr. Berger and his staff were so accomodating, friendly and he was very knowledgeable. We had a great experience and can't thank him enough!

I have been a patient of Dr. Berger for over a decade and he treats my chronic dry eye from GVHD. He also preformed Cataract surgery on both of my eyes to great success. I highly recommend him. He is an expert in the field. His staff is friendly and he takes most insurance . Great bedside manner.

Very arrogant. Doesn’t actually talk to the paient.

I have been so confident of Dr. Berger's professional depth of experience through several appointments for two separate ophthalmology needs. In June, Dr. Berger did a cataract procedure on my right eye with amazing and immediate results. Everything was thoroughly investigated and procedural needs explained. Surgery reflected professionalism on all levels. Follow-up thorough. We both even remarked at the 1-day visit..."It's as though I didn't have surgery.. perfect results."

I am very thankful for finding Dr. Berger and his willingness to go forward with this challenging triple procedure considering the condition of my left eye. I really was looking forward to meeting Dr. Berger as a new patient but didn't get a chance because of a BIG MISUNDERSTANDING & INCONVENIENCE. First, I called scheduled an appointment with a lady that said, we do take United Health Care Choice Plus so, when I arrived the guy at the front desk took my card & 9 pages of paperwork as a new patient. As I waited then was called back to tell me that they don't take my insurance, keep in mind Dr. Berger is in the Network, I called my ins to verify.

I just moved from Jacksonville, Dr Berger was recommended by my Dr. I have found him to be excellent!

I am very grateful that I was referred to Dr. Craig Berger. When I arrived at Dr. Berger's office I barely had any vision in my left eye. My eye looked like something out of an alien movie coupled with a great amount of discomfort and pain. Under Dr. Berger's care my vision has been restored, and my eye feels and looks normal with no pain or discomfort. For over three years I was looking for an eye surgeon who not only was knowledgeable and skilled at cornea transplants, cataract surgeries and Fuch’s Dystrophy but also compassionate to his / her patients. Dr. Craig Berger is all of the above. I have spoken to many of his patients while I was waiting to be seen by Dr. Berger and everyone had the same respect and feelings for Dr. Berger that I have. Last September after a visit to the optician I had a recommendation to go to an ophthalmologist and Dr. Berger was specifically recommended. The question was why did my vision in my left eye deteriorate so rapidly over the course of a year. Dr. Berger explained that I had a cataract in my left eye and that it should be removed. His explanation and professionalism made me very comfortable having him perform the surgery. The surgery was performed a month later with no complications. Presurgery Dr.

Dr Berger was very knowledgeable of my particular eye disease & cornea cross/linking. Definitely more economical as far as cost of surgery/procedure & the staff is very friendly & accommodating.

My wife and I are both patients of Dr. Berger. We have always found him to be a caring, excellent professional. I have recently had cataract surgery and the results have been outstanding. I recommend Dr. Berger without reservation.

As I had, prior to my intra-ocular lens replacement, a couple of complicating visual factors, Dr. Berger applied several repeat Snellen acuity tests on different days, prior to his calculating the best corrective power of the new lens. I appreciate this, as it helped to ensure that the most appropriate lens would be used. The surgical procedure was quick, painless and exactly as he had described that it would be. Very good care, before and after the procedure. Well-recommended.

Dr. Berger was recommended to me by another ophthalmologist as being the best corneal transplant surgeon around. My experience has been great. Staff is fantastic. 6 surgeries were all well coordinated and he even came to surgery center near me, even though I live almost 20 miles away. Always takes time to answer any questions. I highly recommend him.

Excellent excellent doctor. Awesome staff. I have never waited over 15 minutes before I was called back to one of the rooms for treatment. Both eyes had cataracts. 20/20 vision today thanks to Dr Berger. Eye problems?? Do yourself a favor and give Dr Berger a call. You can't go wrong!!!

While I am certain he is a qualified and knowledgeable physician, I found him to be rather disinterested and aloof as i tried to explain symptoms that my elderly mom has been having with her eyes. When my mom introduced me to him as we walked into the exam room, he did not so much as acknowledge i was there...no handshake, no eye contact. The office is not conveniently located to us, and based on my experience with her at this appointment, we will be looking for another ophthalmologist.

This doctor is very thorough and made me feel comfortable. This was important because I came to him after a horrible experience with another eye doctor. Dr, Berger not only corrected the mess that was done but also explained what was going on. Wish I had gone to him first!!

Laser cataract surgery 20/20 vision in both eyes..... I'm doing the happy dance

Have been a long time patient, having two corneal transplants. Dr. Berger is patient, has excellent bedside manner. Appointments readily available when having an acute problem. Can even e-mail him your concerns and he answers within short period of time.

Great doctor

I had a cornea transplant done by Dr. Berger and I am completely satisfied with my whole experience. I will be having my other eye done by him.

Dr. Berger is an excellent Ophthalmologist, he found the perfect solution for my dry eye, Punctal Plugs.. He and is staff are courteous, professional and punctual.

When I was diagnosed with cataracts in both eyes, I knew that cataract surgery would be complicated by my having had radial keratotomy (RK) in both eyes to correct my myopia (nearsightedness) in the mid-1980’s. The challenge of cataract surgery for post-RK patients is the difficulty in getting accurate cornea measurements to determine the prescription for the intraocular lens that replaces the cloudy lens. Current measuring instruments do not account for the segmented, flattened corneas of the post-RK patient. The surgery itself differs from ordinary cataract surgery in that the incision point is the sclera instead of the cornea to minimize the risk of destabilizing the segmented, post-RK cornea. The first ophthalmologist I consulted has a large practice in Tampa and specializes in cataract surgery, but he told me that, due to my history of RK, my case was too complicated for his practice. I then consulted ophthalmologists at the University of Utah who had conducted peer-reviewed, published research on cataract surgery for post-RK patients. One of them referred me to Dr. Craig Berger. I wrote to Dr. Berger and he promptly replied by telephoning me and telling me of his considerable experience working with post-RK patients in need of cataract surgery. When I had my first appointment with Dr. Berger, he explained that my case was further complicated by the fact that I had Dry Eye Syndrome (DES). Over a 5 month period, Dr. Berger systematically and successfully treated my DES, got the best possible measurements of my corneas, and, finally, performed cataract surgery on my left eye. I am writing this testimonial one week after surgery and can report that my vision in that eye is much improved. While it is too soon to say how close to perfect vision I will ultimately reach in both eyes, I am confident that, with Dr. Berger as my ophthalmologist, I will achieve the best possible outcome. I had trouble with my left cornea; cataracts in both eyes; and my vision was about -12 in one eye and -13 in the other. After surgery, I can now see 20-20 for distance and need only drugstore readers for reading and other up-close tasks. This is amazing, considering I've worn glasses since grade school. I wasn't an easy case. It took me a while to decide what was best. I appreciate Dr. Berger and his staff answering all of my questions. I recently had cataract surgery and from the very beginning I was met with smiles and professionalism. Everyone was helpful in helping me understanding what I was about to go thru and was there to answer me with every question I had and there were many. The instruments that were used were of the latest and most precise for making sure that I would have a great outcome and clear vision. I was made very comfortable when I arrived on the day of surgery and I again was explained EXACTLY what I was going to experience and it was exactly that. No surprises which made me very relaxed. Dr. Berger is a knowledgeable doctor and is willing to take the time to explain the various complex functions of the eyes. He and his staff are very friendly and helpful. After three months of infections and seeing two other doctors, he was able to clear my condition and assured me that my condition would get better and it did.
