Dr. George P Panagiotides

Very patient and informative on my mitral valve surgery. Explained the surgery, showed me the valve repair and replacement band or titanium valve replacement. Laurie the office manager has gone above and beyond to ensure all the t's were crossed and i's dotted. She has been a pleasure to work with.

I had a rather weird experience with Dr. Panagiotides. I was scheduled to have bypass surgery late last year. I was all prepped the night before then taken to the operating room the following morning. I woke up a few hours later back in my hospital room, and my chest was NOT cut open! I learned later when Dr. Panagiotides paid me a visit that my surgery was aborted because he discovered that my heart was too weak to endure such a procedure, due to a heart attack I suffered a few days earlier in the week. Fast forward 3 months later in his office, after obtaining an echocardiogram and MRI report, he tells me that based on the latest findings, that I'm still a candidate for bypass surgery but this time, my heart is stronger and the surgery is elective. I had the feeling he'd be pushing for surgery since that's how he makes a [nice] living. He seems very knowledgeable but I would always advise getting a second opinion first before consenting to a major procedure.

My 84-year-old dad was cleared to have surgery to remove "scar tissue" on one lung and drain both lungs. His surgery took place at Los Alamitos Hospital on March 5. He died in intensive care on March 12 from Sepsis. Dr. Panagiotides did the surgery before his vacation. Someone from their office was supposed to check on my dad and even though we were there every day we never saw them in person. After my dad passed we called their office to go over the hospital record to find out what happened to my dad. The receptionist said they would call us to schedule an appointment and they never called back. When I expressed concerns before the surgery Dr. Panagiotides said it was up to my dad, but I was there as his advocate. Their office never even extended their sympathy. His care at Los Alamitos seemed good, but none of their staff told us he had Sepsis and we didn't understand why his kidneys were failing and he was declining. Then we saw that he had Sepsis in the medical report.

Dr. "George" performed a double by-pass on me July 16, 2017. We met in the ER at Los Alamitos Medical Center. I had what is commonIy referred to as the "Widow maker." I followed the recovery instructions including Cardio Rehab to the letter. Even the suggested diet. My recovery was said by my church friends to be nothing less than a miracle. A big part of that miracle was the skilled hands and mind of Dr. "George." The anniversary of my surgery is Monday July 16, 2018.

I'm a patient and a survivor, thanks to Doctor "G". A healthy runner that started with a heart murmur and graduated to congestive heart failure with a blown out Mitral valve. Within 4 months I was jogging again. The doctor repaired my valve so I don't need to deal with any meds. Let's face it, open heart surgery is painful but it is better than the alternative. Does his office staff kiss my...was he the nicest person ever...I don't care, he fixed me!

Very confident I had a double bypass and would have been very afraid except he spent time talking me through it. Great recovery experience. Highly recommend.
