Dr. Gunther Rencken

I never thought I'd have a bad experience here as I grew up with Dr. Rencken being my doctor from a very young age. I've known people that have had not so great experiences, but thought it was just them being nit-picky UNTIL my last visit: I went in with a list of concerns and examples on why I wanted to get an evaluation done for ADHD. I'm talking a two page list of concerns. I asked him not to interrupt me so I didn't lose my train of thought, and he proceeds to grab the paper from me. My mind went blank, and I needed that list. Once I got it back, I started telling him what was up (a conversation I had been practicing for DAYS so that way I didn't mess anything up or leave anything out). One example was that I had an old bottle of medication that I noticed makes my brain focus (phentermine-diet medication). I told him it's like four months old. You can literally look up my history of medications and see the date. He interrupts me and says "that's a red flag, everyone feels great on phentermine. it's speed". Okay... it's not speed.. but I'm telling you I don't feel "great", I feel normal. My brain functions NORMALLY on it. My brain fog completely dissappears, and I don't have trouble remembering things. It doesn't have that effect on all people. How do I know that? Because it doesn't have that same effect on my mother. I try to brush off his condescending tone and move on to the next point to which he again interrupts me and harps on it for the next couple minutes. My mom is the nurse educator at the hospital and I was raised to be open and share everything with my doctor as it can help with a diagnosus. I have a VERY clean record and anyone that knows me knows that I don't even take my thyroid medicine properly as I'm not a fan of medication... it's annoying to have to take pills. NOW, I know why people don't tell their doctors everything. I was basically shamed for it. PS: I DO have ADHD btw as I had an appointment with a psychiatrist that I found which accepted my insurance since you wanted to refer me to someone where I'd have to pay $200+ dollars. Way to go the extra mile. Fun fact, they are now seeing that people who take phentermine and have better brain focus typically do have ADHD. I’ve been seeing Dr Rhencken for 12 years. He’s always treated me with great respect and most of all has always treated me for various medical problems and when he needed to has always had no problem reffering me out for probs that required specialty Drs. I’m moving now quite far away and will really miss Dr Renckens care. He and his staff and nurses are all very nice . I give them All 5 stars.

Excellent Doctor!❤????

Dr. Rencken has been my mother’s doctor for over 8 years. He is absolutely amazing!!! He had some large shoes to fill after Dr. Johnston left. Not only did Dr. Rencken fill those shoes, he has overfilled them. He is caring, compassionate, empathetic and engaging. He has a great sense of humor and an incredible way of communicating with his patients in a way that they can understand. Even when my mother has been really sick, he puts her at ease and effectively explains the treatment plan. As a nurse, I can honestly say that he had saved my mother’s (Wanda Gunnoe)life, more then once! Thank You Dr. Rencken for all that you do. He is a wonderful dr. He helped me through a bad time in my life. I was in a 10yr abusive relationship. Wonderful man and dr.

Dr. Rencken is our family doctor and has been our children's Pediatrician through their early years. Now that our children are older he has become my entire families Primary Physician. If possible we never see anyone else.....he is a compassionate doctor and a great friend!

Dr. Rencken listens to his patients, is caring, & have a great bed side manner. Instead of giving you medicine to mask the pain, he wants to get to the source of what's causing the problem. It's hard to find a doctor willing to take the time & listen. I found one.

Dr. Rencken is not just a great physician, but someone who listens well, and cares about his patients. He has a great sense of humor that makes his patient's feel comfortable even in the midst of a crisis. I am amazed that he will even come out an call his patient's back to help out the nursing staff, when needed. Walterboro has certainly been blessed to have such to have the great Dr. Rencken as a part of its medical community! Looking for a new Doc; he's the one!!!!
