John M Ciccarelli

I developed a condition called spondylosis, due primarily to arthritis. It was rapidly becoming debilitating. I selected Dr. Ciccarelli after careful research. He accurately diagnosed the issue and explained options. Ultimately, I chose surgery. Dr. Ciccarelli fused the fourth and fifth lumbar. I felt relief almost immediately after surgery. Since the surgery, my back has been perfect and my energy level has returned with a vengeance. I am deeply grateful for Dr. Ciccarelli and I credit him for giving me my life back in full, including frequent international travel which is both part of by business and my personal life. I highly recommend him.

I am recovering well and walked after surgery and now walk everywhere without a walker. Did not use one before and do not need one now. It’s been almost 3 weeks and have no complications. I still have ways to go, but it’s not as difficult as before surgery. I used to use pillows on my back and no longer need my pillows. I heard a nurse at the hospital, saying he is a great doctor and he is timely. He does not make me wait long at the office visits. And his nurse makes sure I understand my care plan. Post visit: He reviewed xray results with me and showed me how I was recovering. Explain the entire recovery time and limitations. Which are not much for me. I forgot to add that I traveled 5 hours to see this surgeon and made it with ease. I HIGHLY recommend this Spine Surgeon if you are having back problems. It's been 20 years since John took really did my back surgery lower fusion and I feel great he's an awesome back surgery doctor I can't say enough good words for him I appreciate your service

I can't say enough good things about Dr. Ciccarelli. From my initial visit until the time he released me I was impressed. I had zero problems with my lower back surgery with titanium implants and bone grafts. I'd recommend Dr Ciccarelli to anyone wanting professional care and great results.

Cant walk or stand for any length of time.

I’m coming up on the 7th year after Dr. Ciccarelli performed open back spinal fusion with bone grafts to correct back pain. I still feel great! No issues with my back. I am truly grateful to Dr Ciccarelli and would recommend him to anyone needing Orthapedic surgery.

Dr. Ciccarelli, Jason Douglas, PA-C, and the office staff are terrific. The office environment is professional and low stress. Dr. Ciccarelli and PA-C Jason thoroughly explained my condition and showed me the MRI pictures. They answered all my questions about the surgery and recovery. My experience at the AdventHealth Surgery Center was exceptional. Dr. Ciccarelli successfully operated on the ruptured disc and for the first time in many years I have no pain in my lower back. Dr. Ciccarelli and his PA-C Jason Douglas as well as their entire staff were wonderful. They were kind, open and honest about all aspects of my surgery. The care and time they spent with myself and my daughter before and after the surgery were outstanding. Even the follow up visits with my many questions were not a bother for Dr Ciccarelli or Jason Douglas. They would have spent all the time needed to answer all my questions. The surgery gave me back my life and I owe it to this entire team.

Awful. Did the surgery the way work comp wanted although he did not recommend it. He told us this. We should have secured a lawyer then. 6 weeks later he again took the direction of work comp and sent him back 6 weeks later. Should have been at least 6 months. My husband reruptured 2 weeks later. 14 years later, disabled and in terrible pain 24/7. No medication can take the pain away. Just turned 57. 12 year old child. What he did to my husband and family is beyond words. FYI, don't get any kind of back surgery. Butchery. Find a doctor that does spine correction without surgery. Awful. 15 months after back surgery. Balance is better.attitude better and absolutely thrilled with results. Before I had surgery I was wearing my left shoe heel off and feeling old. This surgery turned my clock back 20 years I bet!!!!!

Great guy and doctor. I appreciated that he tried treating me conservatively before recommending surgery. My surgery went great and am now pain free. His PA, Jason, is great also. Would highly recommend.

From the first visit prior to needing surgery until the last post op visit, I trusted Dr. Ciccarelli 100%. He always gave his honest opinion and had the patients best interest in mind. I was terrified to have surgery, but he reassured me that the procedure would be quick and easy and that the recovery would not be bad at all. I wish I would've scheduled the surgery sooner as I have been relieved of my pain that I had been living with for awhile. Again, I can't say thank you enough! The Best!

I traveled 757 miles I to find a doctor that would help with my back and leg pain. The difference between Dr. Ciccarelli and my previous doctors was night and day. With Dr. C, I was treated with respect. He told me what he could do to actually FIX the problem rather than put bandaids on the symptoms. He gave me options let make decisions. He clearly skipped the med school class that teaches “God Complex 101” and is a fine example of the compassion that doctors should emulate.

Dr. Ciccarelli and his PA Jason were awesome to work with. My surgery went great and I feel like I got my life back. I would highly recommend him and his team to anyone and would use him in a heartbeat if I ever have any other back issues.

Dr. Ciccarelli, Jason and all the staff were great! They explained everything so I could understand. My surgery went fantastic. If I ever have to have another back surgery or anyone in my family I would definitely use him.

After dealing with back and leg pain for years (and rounds of injections in my back from a pain management doctor), I was referred to Dr. Ciccarelli and Jason from a friend that had similar issues. I am now 8 weeks post-op for a ruptured L-4 disc and have not felt this good in years. My only regret is not seeing them sooner.

Dr. Ciccarelli performed a lumbar fusion almost 2 years ago. This successful procedure has been life changing! Was very pleased with Dr. Ciccarelli. He wasn't pushing to go in and do a major surgery which other Doctors had. He went in and took care of the problem at hand! I highly recommend him and will return next time I need surgery.

Dr. Ciccarelli was my physician when I needed back surgery in 2014. I was very pleased with him at that time. However, I am now experiencing lower back pain and needed to see a Spine Specialist. So I tried to make an appointment with Dr. Ciccarelli since he was my physician in 2014. I was told he would not take on any more Medicare patients. I was very disappointed and not happy with this experience. I guess he is more interested in making money than in helping people who need a Spine Specialist

I have never met any doctor as caring as Dr Ciccarelli. His PA Jason and all of his staff are professional, courteous and kind. I had a lumbar fusion and the procedure and post op care was thoroughly explained. I would highly recommend Dr Ciccarelli and Dr Jackson!

I could not of picked better doctors than Ciccarelli and Douglas to do my back surgery . I was completely crippled with pain and the surgery was the best choice I ever made. I'm back on my feet with no more pain. I was treated with the up most care and would recommend these doctors to any one suffering with back pain.

For years, I experienced moderate to severe back and leg pain (sciatica). I finally opted to have surgery two months ago, and I am now PAIN FREE and enjoying my life again! Dr. Ciccarelli is a kind, caring professional who guided me through the surgical process with clear, comprehensive explanations. Dr. Ciccarelli makes you feel like a family member and you will get the best care from beginning to end. He has operated on me 2 different times and gets the results he says he will. His office staff and Jason his PA go above and beyond. I highly recommend him!!

His office personal are great.The impressive part was other healthcare professionals from other hospitals telling me how thorough he is. A coworker referred me. His surgery went as great as mine. I would recommend dr. Ciccarelli to anyone with back pain. I had lower back and leg pain and now I am pain free. I would say that he is the best in the Kansas City area.

No complaints about the surgery. Dr. C knew exactly what he was doing. Taking it easy after surgery is actually difficult because the pain is gone and I feel like I can do anything!

I wish I could leave a gazillion "likes" for Dr. Ciccarelli. He diagnosed a pinched sciatic nerve on my left side originating from my lower back, resulting in unbearable pain that prevented me from standing for more than a few seconds at a time. I tried other treatments -- chiropractic, spinal injections, medications -- nothing worked. He scheduled a laminotomy. The procedure was over before I knew it. The sciatic nerve pain was GONE. His professionalism and bedside manner was beyond incredible.

I was very apprehensive about any kind of surgery, let alone spinal surgery. After meeting with dr Ciccarelli, his p.a. And his staff, i was relieved and felt i was in good hands. After surgery, post surgery consultations and checkups... I would recommend dr Ciccarelli to my closest family members. Referring my family to Premier Spine Care isnt an issue, so of course I’d recommend it to a friend acquaintance or stranger. Friendly knowledgeable and helpful. Proficiency goes without saying.

I had been struggling with severe back pain for 6 months. I had tried all recommendations given yet got no relief. I was referred to Dr. Ciccarelli and for the first time I felt really listened to. After many months in severe pain, it was so welcomed. I ended up having surgery and through my entire process I was treated with such wonderful care. Even post surgery with minor issues I had to to an unknown allergy, he was available and genuinely cared. I have my life back!

I had a spinal fusion on L3-L4 & laminectomy without any complications & am now able to walk without pain. This was my first surgery ever (47 yrs old) & my scar is barely noticeable. Dr. Ciccarelli recently performed my 2nd back surgery. He & his team truly gave my life back to me & those that I care about. I went to the Overland Park location to see Dr Ciccarelli. Before seeing him, I was having severe pain down the left side of my leg going to my left big toe. No body could help me until I saw Dr Ciccarelli. For the first time in 10 months, I am pain free. I can't think him enough for everything he has done for me. I also have to mention Heather and Jason. They were so nice and helpful.

My husband was referred to Dr. Ciccarelli for a herniated disc. He was in a lot of pain and discomfort and Jason & Dr Ciccarelli made sure to help and right away! They took very good care to get him into surgery asap and did an excellent job. They were very personable and explained everything prior to surgery and took great care of him. Dr. Ciccarelli and his staff were great. I had a discectomy of my L4-L5 and L5-S1 to alleviate sciatica pain in my right leg. Every aspect of my experience was excellent from initial scheduling of consultation visit, scheduling surgery and completing surgery. Surgery was successful and recovery has been good. Was referred to Dr. Ciccarelli by my primary care physician after an MRI showed a large herniated disk at L5/S1. I had been in chronic pain for ten months. Dr. Ciccarelli scheduled a discectomy at SMMC - Prairie Star Parkway. Great experience at hospital and even better experience with results. The receptionist was so rude that I would never go to this doctor. How can you diagnose if someone is a surgical patient without even seeing them? Terrible, terrible.

The surgery that Dr Ciccerrelli performed on my back turned out better than I could have hoped for. Four weeks after surgery I was pain free for the first time in 20yrs. He had done similar surgeries on 3 other people I know before me and they all had similar results. I highly recommend Dr. Ciccerrelli if you have back problems like I had.

I work for KDOT. I experienced a spinal injury after assisting a motorist by pushing his vehicle off the hwy. in late 2011. After months of rehab & failed treatments (no x-rays) by the state's Work Comp doctor, I contacted the WC main office insisting a visit with a spinal doctor. The injury evolved to sciatica in both legs, a condition of all day (24-7) pain. They sent me to Dr. Ciccarelli, who I consider as a "miracle doctor". In 2012, a non-invasive surgery put me back to 100% healthy. Great!

I had Spine surgery on Dec 28th, and have followed his instructions to the letter, and as of March 27th I will be at full duty with no restrictions. Dr. Ciccarelli tells you like it is and treats you with respect. His PA Jason is outstanding as well. I would strongly recommend this Doctor and PA.

I was referred to Dr. Ciccarelli after having an unsuccessful back surgery 4 years prior. He and his staff are very professional and kind. At my initial consultation Dr. Ciccarelli wasn't certain I was a candidate for a new surgery. After a new MRI and a nerve block procedure he then believed I was. We scheduled surgery and within a few days I felt relief. Recovery has taken a while but I am very glad I chose to see Dr. Ciccarelli and had a second surgery. Dr. Ciccarelli gave me my life back!

I had a lot of lower back pain and pain , lots of pain in my legs. After many years of pain and physical therapy Dr.Ciccarelli identified my problem immediately. Had back surgery and my pain is gone. I am so thankful for him and his knowledge.

Dr. Ciccarelli is a wonderful surgeon. My primary care doctor and their office were completely ineffective in helping me with my back pain and kept telling me to, "wait it out to see if it gets better". Once my X-rays and MRI were completed I took them to Premier Spine Care and I had an appointment the next day and was scheduled for surgery approximately a month later. First off, wanted to come in for lower back pain and they said they don't take BCBS. After contacting BCBS and was told they absolutely do. Premier emailed me back and said we need your ID # again because we can't read it. So how do you know you don't take my insurance? After all that and retrieving my medical records for them, I was told they wouldn't be able to help me and go back to a place I had previous work done (who I had already told them I was done with and they are 4 hours away) or

Dr. Ciccarelli and his entire staff did a great job in preparing me for what to expect from the procedure to repair a herniated disc and the recovery period to follow. This was greatly appreciated as any work on your spine can be a frightening ordeal. Dr. C. did not underplay the risks or the long-term prospects of re-injury, but also laid out clearly out how surgery could help and what steps I could take to get the most out of the procedure. Great work by the entire team.

My experience with Dr. Ciccarelli, his staff and the surgical center was great. I had an L5-S1 Laminectomy decompression and he and his team clearly explained their plan for my surgical procedure and put me at ease from the beginning. My pre and post op experiences were wonderful, the staff was caring and the surgical center very clean. Following surgery my lower back is many times better than I expected it to be and I would absolutely recommend Dr. Ciccarelli and his team to anyone.

I conducted thorough research and determined that Dr John Ciccarelli was the best choice within the Kansas City region. Dr Ciccarelli took the time to listen to my concerns and long-term health goals. He was very patient and thorough throughout the process. Surgery was performed flawlessly. His staff (Physician Assistant, Nurses and administrative support) were courteous, knowledgeable and a genuine pleasure to work with. I really don't know the words to express my respect & appreciation for Dr. Ciccarelli, his PA Jason Douglas and his entire staff. They are wonderful and caring people. I was to the point of not being able to walk a block w/o sitting down. I now walk 1 1/2 mi. in 30 mins. w/o stopping. Had been told by another Dr. that nothing could be done for me. Was taking the max dose of Gabapentin & Percocet with no relief, now I take nothing since my spinal fusion. Would do it again with no reservations.

I was referred to Dr Ciccarelli by another Orthopedic Surgeon who is the head of a different group. He said if he would need spinal surgery that either Dr Ciccarelli for the lumbar or Dr Jackson for the cervical were the very best. The reason is that they have the least amount of infection rate in the state of Kansas. WOW another ortho saying this made me want to see Dr Ciccarelli for my lumbar spine condition. From the first apt toafter surgery his office staff, Jason his PA & MD were A+!
