Dr. Joseph Ortenberg

Dr. Ortenberg operated on my granddaughter within her first 24 hours and he was amazing! We cannot speak too highly of him. Also, contrary to what some reviewers have said, he spent a LOT of time answering questions and explaining what he had found and what the prognosis was. She has had many follow up visits and he has been just as patient and thorough throughout.

Couldn’t even get a return call from the office to schedule an over due appointment. Quickly decided to choose a new urologist

Dr. Ortenberg was great with my son. He had hypospadias correction surgery when he was 11 months old and he is now 2.5 with a proper working urethra! He has been back for a few follow up visits with Dr. Ortenberg and he has a great bedside manner with him. My husband and I were very pleased with him. Great experience!

My son was seen by Dr. Ortenberg for penile adhesions at the Covington Clinic. The wait time was ridiculously long, and when he did get to see my son he numbed the area with cream and came in 30 minutes later and ripped the foreskin back. Two weeks later I contacted the doctor's office, that the skin was starting to adhere again, despite following his exact instructions after the appointment. I mentioned getting a steroid cream to help which I did research on, but was told no. A month later, I received my EOB from my insurance and a bill for $2054 for the visit! So not only is my son's adhesion back but now we owe all this money because the doctor billed the visit as a surgical procedure! I've contacted the appeals department and they were not able to remove any charges! We are now at a Ocshner pediatric urologist who has completely resolved the adhesions! Dr. Ortenberg was kind. He explained well. Wait time for apt. was 2.5 hours. A bit ridiculous. After the apt we scheduled surgery. 3 days post apt we called to let him know pertinent information about our child's case. Nothing changed, still needed surgery. A few months later we arrive for day of surgery. My child is given the relaxation medication so he can be taken down for pre-op and IV's can be run to put him to sleep. At this point we had been in the hospital for 4 hours, our child hasn't eaten in over 12. Dr. O. walks in the room and my husband mentioned the phone call to his office from several months ago. Dr. O looks and stated that he wanted to do a physical exam right there (which is usually not done prior to surgery). To his amazement he found what he was looking for and stated that surgery was no longer needed. He dismissed us and sent us home. So here's the deal: We gave the nurse IMPORTANT information regarding our child, she failed to let Dr. O know and failed to put it in my child's chart. My husband and I each used 5 days of PTO. We travelled 6 hours with a hungry child. Our child was given unnecessary medication to make him calm. AND he was almost put to sleep & cut open FOR NOTHING. Thankfully my husband opened his mouth and asked all of his questions before Dr. O walked out of the room prior to surgery. This is an OFFICE error. Not a Dr. O error. BUT who you have working for you speaks volumes about who you are as a physician/surgeon. Don't trust his office staff to tell him what is going on. If I could leave zero stars I would. I'm being generous with the one star. I did not like the way he explained things. He dismissed my concerns regarding my daughter's diagnosis. We waited in the waiting room for almost an hour and then in the actual room for another hour before we were seen. He was in and out in 10 minutes. It might've been because we were the last people there but there is no excuse for that horrible wait time EACH time I've been to him. The wait time at Children's has always been horrible but Dr. Ortenberg is no better. GO TO ANY OTHER DOCTOR besides him!! Trust me!!!! If I could leave zero stars I would. Facility was absolutely amazing! From our nurse, to the NP and then down to Dr. Ortenberg, they were all extremely nice to me and even nicer to my 4 year old! They all took their time with us and made sure we understood everything completely. Great experience and I highly recommend ♥️♥️
