Joseph R. Raviv

This is a corrupt and extremely dangerous physician that will perform unnecessary surgeries on patients for profit. He has completely ruined my ability to breathe and he takes no accountability for it. He performed an unnecessary, unconsented surgery on me that cut off airflow on the right side of my nose. The x-ray images on his Yelp profile provide evidence for my claims. They show both sides of the inside of my nose equally open, before he operated on me. After the operation, these photos also show how airflow is cut off on the right side of my nose. The only reason I can not post the images here is because they keep getting removed. In addition, this incompetent did nothing to fix his mistakes. He is a coward that hides from the accountability of his negligence and deserves to have his medical license revoked.

Have been experiencing a little trouble breathing the past couple of months figured I'd see what all the fuss was about so I called up Dr raviv and scheduled an appointment. upon my visit I was put at ease by a friendly assistant who's well spoken and if I may say easy on the eyes she asked a few questions pertaining to my issue. when she was done the doctor arrived a few more questions were asked and he got right to work it's nothing he hadn't seen before and he knew just how to take care of it you see I have a polyp in my nasal cavity that's been obstructing my breathing a bit he assured me nothing to be concerned about and with the hands of a surgeon diffusing a bomb while holding wine glasses he's steadily went in and cut that thing right out no pain I kind of like that guy most doctors can be a little rough and in no time I'm breathing right again so thanks to Joseph raviv MD and Company I'm back on top. so I suggest if you're experiencing any of those symptoms or any other symptoms in that area don't hesitate to schedule the guy knows what he's doing

Joseph Raviv is an unethical, treacherous doctor that performs unnecessary surgeries on patients for additional insurance money. I visited Dr Raviv in 2014, and all I needed was endoscopic sinus surgery (where the surgeon widens the sinus passages to promote better drainage). However, when I was sedated, he threw in an unnecessary septoplasty that severely narrowed the right side of my nasal airway. For people reading this, I have included x-ray images of the inside of my nose, before and after my surgery with him (THE IMAGES CAN BE SEEN ON HIS YELP PROFILE. I CAN'T POST THEM HERE CAUSE NORTHSHORE KEEPS REMOVING THEM). As you can see from these images, my nasal airway was equally open on both sides, before surgery, and the septoplasty didn't need to be done. By performing it, he severely narrowed the right side of my nasal airway. Raviv performed this unnecessary surgery to collect that additional insurance money. There is no other explanation for this. Furthermore, when I later contacted him, and told him that my breathing was worse, and I suspected it was a problem with my septum, he told me that he wouldn't be able to perform the revision septoplasty (make it the way it was before). Therefore, not only is he greedy, by performing unnecessary surgeries, but he is incompetent, for not being able to fix his mistakes. This unnecessary surgery has caused me to suffer for 7 years. Since I can't really breathe out of my nose, I don't sleep well at night. I am then exhausted all day, not able to function well, and there is nothing that can be done to fix it. I have lost friends, and jobs over the years, and I am not able to pursue some of the career goals that I wanted to when I was younger. The only reason I can't sue Raviv is that my statute of limitations for medical malpractice has expired. In addition, Raviv is also a coward. As soon as I started talking about my negative experience online, instead of apologizing or trying to remedy the situation, Raviv hired a disgusting, corrupt, unethical lawyer named Luisa Trujillo (who now, ironically, works as the head of Northshore Legal affairs). This lawyer sent me a cookie cutter "Cease and Desist", informing me that I would be "sued" if I didn't stop talking about my experience. What a joke! That was 4 years ago, and I haven't stopped anything. When that didn't work, Raviv went "in tears" to the Northbrook Police Department, hoping they would scare me into not sharing my story. That was now 2 years ago. Well guess what, I am not going to stop talking. I am going to keep spreading the word until everyone connected to Northshore knows about this. About five years ago, Dr. Raviv did an extremely invasive procedure on me where he made a new opening in my cheek bone into my sinus cavity. He told me it was necessary. I’ve had nothing but misery since and have worse sinus infections than prior. It has also affected my Csf pressure. When I went back to him with my post-op issues he basically told me there was nothing he could do and washed his hands of me. Do NOT let this doctor operate on you. He’s a scam- I will never go back to that office. I decided to see him because I was having a sinus issues. He billed my insurance for procedure that was never performed and now I’m stuck with a bill that he said he will do nothing about. I found Dr. Raviv to be excellent, and his entire staff very professional from beginning to end. I had two nasal procedures done 7 months ago, and I've been very happy with the results. Zero complaints.

Stay away. I’m worse off than ever before. He performed the worst surgery, cut my turbinates and now I have a constant dry nose. He doesn’t care. Please stay away.

I'm used to long waits when seeing a doctor but that was ridiculous. Very disorganized. He came into the room with the wrong chart and then took forever to bring back the right one. He wanted to schedule a surgery and I told him I needed to think about it. I have no intention of going back.

My experience with this doctor was horrible. Ever since I had surgery with him in early 2017, I have had severe pain in my jaw and cheek bones. I’m not really sure what he did but my life is a nightmare now. I have to take pain medication all day, and the meds make me feel loopy and dizzy.

I'll trust my instincts next time. He didn't seem like he had it all together during the office visit. At first, I thought he was just social awkward, but still medically competent. This also turned out to be very wrong. I'm not really sure what he did to me, I was only supposed to go in for a simple septoplasty. But after my surgery with him, I ended up with FOUR complications -- empty nose syndrome, nasal valve collapse (where the walls of your nose cave in when you breathe), severe nerve pain that I have had everyday since the surgery, and a septal perforation, that I didn't have before, and now I do. When a simple surgery leaves you with four complications, it's really hard to believe the surgery was done properly. Because of these complications, sleeping is very difficult, and during the day, I am physically and mentally exhausted from the poor quality of sleep that I now get every day. Joseph Raviv is a very dangerous, unethical doctor. I visited Raviv in mid 2014, when I was suffering from sinus congestion. Looking back on things, most of my problems could have been resolved with antibiotics, and refraining from Afrin use. I did not know this at the time, though. Anyways, Dr. Raviv immediately offered me sinus surgery, without elaborating on any of the risks, or discussing any alternative treatments. At the time, I thought this would help, so I accepted the surgery. This was the biggest mistake of my life. Dr Raviv performed two surgeries on me: endoscopic sinus surgery (where they widen the sinus passages), and septoplasty (where they straighten the septum). The septoplasty, however was completely unnecessary, and severely narrowed the right side of my nasal airway. For people reading this, I have included x-ray images of my sinuses, before and after my surgery with Dr. Raviv. As you can see from the images, my airway was much more open, and equal on both sides, before my surgery with him. Dr. Raviv performed this unnecessary surgery just to collect the additional insurance money. There is no other reason. I also visited him multiple times after the surgery, telling him that my breathing was much worse, and I suspected that it was a problem with my septum. And every time I brought this up, he laughed in my face, and told me it must be because of something else, like allergies. I told him I had been tested for allergies just the other year, and it couldn't be because of that. Also being the money grubbing scum that he is, he charged me $500 for each of these post follow-up meetings. He charged me $500 to tell me I might have allergies. For these reasons, I stopped seeing him in early 2015. Eventually, in early 2017, I got a second opinion from a doctor that looked at my x-rays, pre and post surgery, and told me that my airway looked better before Raviv’s surgery. When I called Raviv, and told him this, he told me too much time had passed for him to perform the revision septoplasty (make it the way it was before). You can imagine how furious I was upon hearing that. Since my surgery with Raviv, I have also had several additional procedures from other doctors, including vestibular stenosis (bracing collapsing nasal valves) and turbinate reduction in efforts to breathe better. Yet this did nothing to help alleviate my problems. This surgery was almost five years ago, and it has had catastrophic effects on my life and health. Let me begin by saying i would not recommend that he treat you for any sinus or nasal related issues. I was having sinus issues related to a previous surgery of septoplasty. At time I did not know what the issue was, hence was referred to Dr. Raviv. He saw me once and recommended endoscopic sinus surgery, and he assured me I needed it based on my scans and that I would likely feel better. Fast forward months after the procedure I felt worse on top of the severe congestion I had already had before, it had turned into a chronic condition. With every follow up appointment he said my sinuses looked “clear” and everything looked fine. I went back and forth to see him to the point where he told me I have Empty Nose Syndrome and it was currently Incurable. I had surgery with him and now every time I breathe in, my nose collapses. I later found out that he removed too much septal cartilage when performing the septoplasty. Another doctor viewed my CT scans told me that the septoplasty wasn’t even necessary, and that I would have been fine with just the endoscopic sinus surgery. Now I need to pay a plastic surgeon to fix the collapsing valves because my insurance won’t cover the procedure. I agree with all the other negative comments. They are spot on. Dr. Raviv is excellent. I had a successful frontal sinus surgery for a mucocele. He was available to answer any questions I had and took his time explaining his answers. He has a gentle and kind bedside manner. I met with another surgeon for a second opinion and decided Dr. Raviv was the most skilled and experienced. I am happy with my decision of Dr. Raviv as my sinus surgeon and would highly recommend him.

I can't speak to those who provided a negative review but I had the exact opposite experience. Dr. Raviv performed my surgery in June and did an excellent job. I have been suffering with sinus problems for a number of years and because of him, I am finally able to breathe through my nose again! He was very professional and caring and his staff was very friendly and accommodating. He came highly recommended from my doctor and I can understand why. I would also highly recommend Dr. Raviv. My advice would be to not allow the negative reviews detract you from scheduling an appointment. Meet with him prior to making your decision. I have had an excellent experience with Dr. Joseph Raviv. I had sinus problems for a very long time with asthma. I had my allergies tested and then I was referred to Dr. Raviv. I was also suffering from multiple sinus infections per year with wheezing from Asthma. There are a lot of wonderful benefits of working with Dr. Raviv. I am no longer on my preventative asthma medication and I can breathe through my nose again. I have had 2 sinus infections in 2 years. It's awesome. Thank you.

Dr Raviv is OUTSTANDING! I have suffered from chronic life-long sinus issues for the past 50yrs and have had three sinus surgeries over past 30yrs with negative results. Dr Raviv performed a bi-lateral Maxillary Antrostomy, Total Ethmoidectomy, Frontal Sinusotomy, Sphenoidotomy, and Septoplasty. This was in 2012 and I have never felt better than I do now! I return every year for a sinus checkup and my reports are excellent! I no longer am on any sinus meds and I am cured! Dr Raviv is AMAZING!!

I was referred to Dr. Raviv by my PCP after a sinus CT scan revealed polips in my sinus. At the time I was barely able to breathe through my nose. Dr. Raviv performed an endoscopic sinus surgery to remove the polyps and a septoplasty to correct a septum deviation. This was about 4-5 months ago. So far my experience has been great. I'm finally able to breathe and sleep a full night, something that I had not been able to do for years. No complaints from me, this was a positive experience.

I went to Dr. Raviv to help me diagnose my issue. He found that I need surgery to remove pollups & enlarge my nasal passage way. Along with a plastic surgeaon they worked hand in hand to reconstruct my entire nasal breathing ststem in my nose. I Have never felt better in my life. I find him to be one of the best ENT Dr's in the country. Whoever is posting negative info on this Dr. is plain WRONG & is probably the same person with multiple names posting. My close friend of 11 years was treated by you nearly 4 years ago, and you did nothing to alleviate his pain, nor did you repair his nasal passages. I hope you comprehend that he may never recover from this damage you caused. You need to answer for your faults, and/or come up with a procedure to reverse/repair his nose.

Dr. Raviv appears to be on of the many surgeons that takes a profit-over-patient approach to medicine. This approach is very profitable for the surgeons that adopt it, although it is morally reprehensible it is financially lucrative. Doctors can even develop a taste for it, which makes them even more profitable. I wouldn't recommend this doctor to anyone. My experiences with Dr. Raviv over several years and a number of interactions show him to be smart and caring.

Ignore the negative comments. I have been seeing him for almost a year. I have horrible sinus problems. I needed antibiotics on the average of 4-6 times a year. Since I started the regimen he prescribed I have needed on antibiotic only once. He did say if i continued to have frequent infections I would be a candidate for endoscopic surgery. I decided to give the medical treatment some more time and it has improved my condition tremendously. Unless things change I will not have to have surgery. I wasn’t pressured or coerced at all to consider it. I am a medical professional and I have seen nothing worthy of concern in his practice of medicine. Ignore the negative comments. Dr Raviv is outstanding! I have suffered from a lifetime of recurrent sinus infections and need for several courses of antibiotics every year. Surgery has been life changing for me. He is a caring, genuine, great doctor who has a really nice team around him, and I was absolutely thrilled with the results post-surgery. He came highly referred to me by Dr. Tamara Fountain, and between the two of them--they were my guardian angels. Dr. Raviv took what was initially a scary experience and made it incredibly positive, and I'm so grateful to have had him!
