Dr. Joseph F Scalia

My 86 year old mother who is disabled and has many health issues had an appointment today with this doctor. My mom has medicare and his office confirmed that he accepts medicare. Yesterday I called the office to confirm the appointment but constantly got a message saying "the office is currently closed". So this morning, I had to physically go to the office just to confirm the appointment. They were in fact open but just wouldn't answer the phone! In any case, they confirmed that the appointment was that afternoon. Later I go back here with my mom who can barely walk. I gave my mom's medicare card to the lady at the front desk. She asked me if my mom has a secondary insurance. I told her my mom has applied for medicaid. The moment I said that, this doctor who was sitting there said he will not be able to treat my mom because he will not be paid enough. I told him medicare will pay him and the rest I can pay but he refused to see her. I even told him about her health condition but he could care less. His only concern was that he wouldn't be able to bill my mom for the medicare deductible and copay if she happened to also get medicaid! Unbelievable. I have contacted medicare to report this.

My husband and I have been with Dr. Joe Scalia for a few years. I can't say enough about how he cares for his patients. He is definitely concerned and caring. It is to our benefit that we found Dr. Joe Scalia as our Doctor. He is not an "I" person. He gives you heartfelt individual caring and concern, He talks to you and not at you. He is a rare individual and explains his concerns to you, so you understand your health. I am proud to say, he is our family Doctor and a strong benefit to our lives.

Dr Scalia took the time needed to explain complex medical issues, and did so with concern and empathy. He then focused on taking practical steps to help me.

Doctor Joe is the best!

Been using this Dr for years. Lately, the entire practice is failing miserably. They forget to call with critical medical information. They mis-diagnose constantly. They do NOT do anything to coordinate care with specialists. They give wrong medication which puts patients at risk. What else can I say, the whole practice is abysmal.

I have been going here for many many years. The are the nicest people you could want to heal you. They always have appts for emergencies and truly care about the patient.

On Dr. J. Scalia's website, it states he is a family practioner who treats bronchitis, URTI's and other infections diseases. However, when I presented with a slight cold (and just wanted to become a patient at his practice), he stood in front of the exam room and literally screamed at me to leave not allowing me to say a word. Such explosive behavior was inexcusable and unwarranted. Especially in light of indicating he treats more severe infections. The above warrants a complaint filed with the NJ Medical Board of Examiners.

Dr. J. Scalia should not be a practicing clinician. He has neither the temperament nor does he treat what he advertises to do so. I had a slight cold and wanted to establish a relationship with his "family practice" whose website purports to treat all kinds of infectious diseases. Not true. Unprovoked he screamed at me to leave his office w/o my being able to get a word in. Such explosive behavior in addition to false advertising on his website will be reported to the NJ Board of Medical Examiners.

Dr. Scalia is thoughtful, thorough, and makes me feel like I’m being heard. I know I’m not an easy patient and the doctor and nurses still make me feel good about my visit.

I have and my whole family have been coming here since they opened. I have seen Dr Scalia since he was a resident. I trust him 100% and have never had a bad experience at Raritan family healthcare

I Was hoping to get some tests done at Raritan Family HealthCare and was told Dr. Scalia that medicare won't cover the tests because I don't have any symptoms...he never asked me what my symptoms are, (all within the 3 minutes he spent with me) so I started to say what the symptoms are, he cut me off and while rolling his eyes and walking out of the room he says, "Don't let your Google search trump my medical degree." I had been seeing this Dr. for over 20 years..I'm done.
