I have had MS for 18 years with about 5 doctors nationwide for neurology. I’m very pleased with her service

Dr Schaben is very easy to talk to and show real interest in what we are telling her.

I have multiple sclerosis. I had an appointment with Dr. Schaben recently and it was a horrible experience that left me very sad and confused. I’ve met with her a few times prior and never felt like I could connect with her and I believe that it has something to do with her overbooking herself with patients...losing that connection with her patients. When making an appointment, they always say she is about 8 months out. When I saw her last she had no idea what was going on with me and could only act as if she did by looking at her notes. She immediately had an unwilling attitude and acted as if she was annoyed I was there and by the questions I was trying to ask. This made me uncomfortable and flustered when trying to discuss any concerns I had. She was unable or unwilling to answer my questions and when she noticed I was becoming upset with the situation and not having my questions answered...she then flipped it on me and made a bold statement and said I was “not in the right state of mind” and that she “couldn’t help me” then let out and annoyed “sigh” and walked out of the room without saying anything...this brought on an overwhelmingly feeling of being sad, scared, and confused because I didn’t know where she went, why she left, what she was doing, and if she would be back and I sat there with no solution. This made me feel belittled and bullied by Dr. Schaben. She also denied me an MRI when I asked her for one because she was frustrated that I was frustrated. After sitting in the room alone for a few minutes to try and pull myself together, I then had to escort myself out to the lobby and go to the front desk to ask them if I could switch back to my previous neurologist (who works in the same office) who I had a great relationship with, and they told me “NO...they can’t switch me doctors that work in the same office”....but they had no problem switching me to Dr. Schaben (by their request to accumulate new patients for her) when she first started with Bend Neurological Associates as the new MS specialist. I thought it would be a good idea to switch to Dr. Schaben at the time because she was a woman, as am I, and specializes in MS (my previous neurologist specializes in Epilepsy but was very informed and understood MS and how to treat it) but even from the first time I have met with her I felt that she was kind of cold and I could not develop a comfortable relationship with her. I have a great relationships with all my other doctors and feel comfortable to call them up anytime with any questions or concerns. For a year I put my MS on the back burner because I did not have this feeling with Dr. Schaben. After being refused to be able to switch to the doctor that has worked best for me...I called my husband to let him know what was happening and he became upset and concerned...he then left his place of work and came and met me in the parking lot where he found me still in tears...he then went inside to let them know his concerns and that he was not happy with the way I was treated. He then told them that he would like for me to see my previous neurologist that I had a great relationship with....after only a few minutes from my husband going in and talking with the front desk, he came back out and handed me a piece of paper with my next appointment with the doctor I highly respect. I am very saddened and disappointed with the way I was treated by Dr. Schaben and the office staff for not listening and/or accepting my request to switch to my previous doctor. The only positive outcome of this experience is that I’m now able to meet with a doctor that can help me...but only from my husband’s request, not mine, the patient who has multiple sclerosis. I also now make sure my husband is with me when I make it to all my appointments but it shouldn’t have to be that way. Any doctor that walks out and leaves their patient emotionally upset alone in a room should be highly questioned about their ability to be able to continue practicing as a professional licensed doctor. We are super blessed by Dr. Schaben. She listens, is very attentive and treats her patients like people, not numbers. The thing I like the most is that she knows people who are in her office have some sort of neurological issue happening most likely and she compensates by explaining things thoroughly and answering all questions before she leaves, sometimes being the same exact question more than once. She is patient and kind and has a great sense of humor! We have been very happy with her eyes are neurologist. We are super blessed by Dr. Schaben. I absolutely adore Dr Schaben. She came highly recommended by two of my doctors & upon meeting her I saw why! She is thorough, really listens to you & obviously knows what to do for her patients. She get two thumbs up & a 10 in my opinion ??

I've only seen Dr. Schaben one time and that first experience was incredible. She really spent the time to get to know me and all the pain associated with my MS. Unfortunately her staff is not as understanding and cold to what I'm dealing with. I've had another relapse and the pain is unbareable. Schaben perscribed more staroid infusions and then left for a week, and never called me to tell me about the infusion therapy or to discuss the MRI that brought her to the decision in the first place. I've now called over 5 times in 2 days to try and get some kind of pain relief, as the steroids are causing the pain to increase 10 fold. I finally got ahold of an on call Dr that I've heard great things about, and he sent me in a prescription for 2 pain pills. Unfortunately the pain lasts up to 48 hours after the infusions and is worse then the pain I experience with my MS. I am so fed up with this medical office! She has all my records from the last time I had the infusions and still left me with no direction, no results, and the doctor on call takes 2 days to get back to you. I won't recommend this office or the doctors to anyone. I will be taking my care up to Portland and hopefully find someone who actually understands MS and cares about their patients and how medications effect them. Best nuerologist ever! Whoop whoop

She has been my neuro since 2007 when I was first diagnosed with MS. She had held my hand and laughed with me through all the random "dumb" things that come up. She has always had time when I was relapsing and unfortunately tell everyone how great I think she is! So sorry if she seems a little busy- good news seems to travel fast! You

Dr. Schaben is the best doctor I have been to. I trust her with myself and my children. I cannot say enough how caring and knowledgeable she is. There is no doctor it trust more. We will remain in Bend partially because I won't change doctors. She is truly in a class by herself .

I have seeing Dr. Shaban for chronic migraines. She is awesome. After the first visit she had me on way to more relief than I have had in the past 26 years with my prior doc. She takes the time to go over your history, current issues and your overall wellbeing. She will put you at ease from the very first visit. I was referred to Dr. Schaben after an emergency room visit. When I met Dr. Schaben I was immediately put at ease. There's a genuineness to her that I don't think I have experienced in any doc. She listens very well, is EXTREMELY thorough in getting to the root of your issues and history. She also explains things in a way that is super simple and easy to understand. Her intelligence shines brightly but not in an arrogant way. So I it makes it easy to trust and confide in her. She looks at your overall well being, not just the neurological aspects. She provided referrals and advice for things that went beyond my brain. She addresses my full wellness. The only thing i wish is that she could be my primary care physician and not just my specialist. Because when I work with her I feel like I am getting the true care I should. I was referred to Dr. Schaben after an emergency room visit. When I met Dr. Schaben I was immediately put at ease. There's a genuineness to her that I don't think I have experienced in any doc. She listens very well, is EXTREMELY thorough in getting to the root of your issues and history. She also explains things in a way that is super simple and easy to understand. My wifes been going here for over a year now to no avail! Not one step closer to finding a cause of her siezures nor getting them under control! Seems like all these people want to do is give more n more prescritions n just send her on her way! The siezures are now more frequent n im fed up with this place! If u havent gone here DONT!

Dr Schaben is nice but after waiting 6 months for my first appointment because of my insurance and now being treated there for a year+, I have little relief. Her assistant is less than helpful and cold. The nerve damage is hard enough to deal with on it's own.

I haven't met with Dr. Schaben yet, but I can tell you her staff is very insensitive. Dr. Schaben as a neurologist obviously treats people with physical challenges that affect processing of information. When the assistant called to make an appointment and she was all business. Rattled off numbers and dates so quickly that I could barely keep up. I have processing problems with my MS. I think if someone works for a particular Doctor in a specialty, they should be aware of the diseases and the problems they create for people. Then adjust accordingly. I haven't met with Dr. Schaben yet, but I can tell you her staff is very insensitive.
