HORRIBLE I say, and read the many recent similarly HORRIBLE reviews below & on Yelp x years, case shut. In my case, a WAY OVER-MEDICATED & totally STONED elderly mom, not once, but now twice, as part of Dr. Barte’s care and/or medicine advice and consultation. I don’t think Dr. Barte appreciates anti-cholinergic med Delirium well or anti-Dopamine motor blockade well. Yep, my mom totally confused and then unable to walk or swallow! Yep, both times required acute & emergency hospitalization x days. Omg. She doesn’t return messages x days or weeks, with her Office phone receptionist deflecting all for her. I do not think Dr. Barte is Geriatric Psychiatry Board Certified, clearly not best or recommended for the elderly. Not recommended for anyone. A disaster & time bomb ticking? STAY AWAY!! Never answers their phones in the front office. You have to call over and over again and then when they do answer the one receptionist is super rude. The one receptionist is really nice and i hope she goes somewhere else to work for a respectable Dr. Never refills prescriptions like they should. You can put in by California law 3 months ahead and the pharmacy will put it on hold. She will not do that! You have to call every 30’days to have her refill it. First Appointment was awful. She asked what she thought my daughter had and basically made her diagnose herself. Asked what prescription she wanted to be on and even told her the strength of what she wanted. Seriously? She canceled appointments during covid and then blamed her own patient for what she called a “no show”! She yelled at the front office staff for HER mistake of not following through WHILE on the phone with her patient. She is uncaring, unprofessional and will be reported to the board. You want to diagnose yourself and write your own prescriptions she’s your gal! If you want true professional help PLEASE go somewhere else! (I said gal because she is no dr) STAY AWAY!! This Dr. does not care about her patients, at least that is our experience. If I could rate her zero stars I would. My wife's psychiatrist moved out of state, and we were referred to Dr. Barte and she claimed that the previous Dr. told her not to change my wife's medications. This sounded strange since my wife was now being treated by Dr. Barte and not her previous psychiatrist, and yet she refused to do her own intake on my wife and make her own determination on my wife's condition and medication needs...so she took the word of a prior Dr. and didn't do her own job and due dilligence. In addition, after 3 weeks of requesting a prior authorization on one of the medications that the insurance was requiring from her and her office staff, I made one last attempt to get this sorted out and she FINALLY handled this. Then she claimed that she never received any calls from us and said that the pharmacy never faxed a request, when in fact the pharmacy has a record of faxing her office 13 times! This medication is crucial to my wife's care and she was out of this medicine the whole time that Dr. Barte did not do her job. She is very unprofessional and unethical, and she has no problem being dishonest with her patients. Last, she winds up unilaterally firing my wife as a patient claiming that my wife is dissatisfied with her services. Based on her reason, it is reasonable to think that if my wife was dissatisfied with her services, then my wife would make the decision to find another Dr. In her letter, Dr. Barte said that she would no longer provide medical care to my wife effective immediately and that she would remain available for 2 weeks for emergency care only and she would refill medications for one month. In the meantime, she had already refilled one medication, yet she sent the prescription to the wrong CVS, eventhough she has been sending refills to the correct pharmacy for about 2 years that my wife was under her care. So my wife is removed from her care immediately and without my wife having another Dr. This is not only unethical, but is against the rules/laws put in place by the California Board of Psychiatry. Needless to say, we are putting in a complaint with the board against Dr. Barte. In a nutshell, she is unprofesional, unethical, immoral, incompetent, and dishonest. My loved one with dementia was having scary moments where the hallucinations were draining our energy. He needed help sleeping full hours for calmness. Patient was afraid to start medicine but after going home and reading the pros and cons we began the RX. Thank you Dr. Barte for being patient and understanding at the time I as a 24 hr caregiver needed a way to feel safe for both of us. You could see that patient was irritated scared and exhausted. Thank you for not being in a hurry on our first consult and allowing both myself and patient to express our opinions and concerns. Even if patient was mad you were calm and explained the benefits of the prescription given. I would recommend Dr Barte to friends and family and let them know that always give it a chance. You could take the RX read on it and get your questions answered don't just assume it’s that way or high way. I am content with Dr. and appreciate her help. Sincerely a loving caregiver.

My loved one with dementia was hallucinating and having delusions. It was making patient sleep deprived. During day patient was aggravated , agitated, scared or sad. Our visit with Dr Barte was very pleasant and helpful. Patient was skeptical about medicine being prescribed but we agreed to go home and research the pro and cons and once we started the medicine it has been much better to be at home without fear or high blood pressure elevating. Dr. Barte took the time too listen to both of us. I as a 24/7 caregiver needed to express my concerns and she was respectful too both patient and myself. Very compassionate. We needed that because the dementia journey is difficult and sad. Thank you for guiding us and we are very glad we made a wise decision when we selected Dr. Barte

Was always late and didn't take me seriously, very unprofessional.

This doctor worked at Camarillo State Hospital in the 90s & did not have the knowledge nor ability to treat patients at that time. I would not recommend this doctor to anyone with a serious mental illness who requires treatment. The director of the hopsital said it was because she was young & inexperienced, but she caused much damage to many clients & their families. I'm pretty annoyed with this doctor. My PCM put in an emergency appointment to be seen by her. I called and SHE told me she is not accepting any new patients. But, all these other military spouse are brand new patients and getting in to see her. What a joke for this area!

Very unprofessional, says the same things over and over every single appointment. She does not really seem interested in helping her patients or solving the problems experienced. Go anywhere else for better help.

Had my first appointment with Dr. Lorna Barte and she was GREAT! very understanding, explained the medications to me and I got the meds I’ve been on before without a problem. Totally recommend

I have been seeing Dr. Barte for 3 years. When I came to her I was a wreck. She really listened to me. Shes funny and very smart. She is very good at explaining how different drugs work. I look forward to my Appointments with her.

I have been seeing Dr.Barte for a couple of years now. I go through depression due to family problems, living problems (where I live), and past relationship problems. Dr. Barte has been compassionate, explains things, has been helpful with medications, and has even compared my family to her own when she was younger. She is extremely comforting.

Dr. Barte is not only extremely knowledgeable, she is kind, patient & took the time I needed to get me on the right meds. She is available daily to return calls & will work with you in any way she can. I have had some horrible experiences with 3 other psychiatrists & am so grateful for having found Dr. Barte.

Barte is Incompetent, Rude, & should not be practicing medicine. I was a patient of hers for 5 yrs, but saw her associate. Several months ago the office was turned upside and I got a call from the office to change my appointment time, date, and to see Barte; I was fine with that. I showed up for the appoint; she entered the room & stated I can only write medications, I can't talk to you. Her tone & comment was disturbing; I replied that's fine. It took her 10 min to read my chart.i walked out

I brought my mother to Dr. Barte for help with anxiety and depression caused by Alzheizmers/Dementia. When the first line of medications didn't work, Dr. Barte responded quickly and discontinued them. On our second visit, Dr. Barte conducted an easy cheek swab genetic test and we found an alternative that has worked so well. She was helpful in communicating the traits of the disease - something other doctors haven't done. We have recommended her to other people at my mother's senior home.

Dr. Barte is a very kind and compassionate doctor. My father has alzheimers with outbursts. She worked with our family over many months to find the right solution for his care and medications. We feel so fortunate to have found her.
