Mark K Chang

Dr. Mark Chang is an excellent surgeon. He performed two procedures on my back and results were superb. More importantly Dr. Chang is very much engaged beyond the surgery for as long as it takes. You really feel like he becomes a friend. Bedside manner is very very good.

Dr Chang is the best. I was in so much pain. He did a spinal fusion surgery for me. At three months I am back to normal. By two weeks out from surgery I already was feeling so much better. Dr Chang is very personable and hands on. He visits you personally each day in the hospital. Most doctors pass you off to a PA at that point. His office staff is friendly and very efficient! Highly recommend dr Chang if you have back problems.

Dr. Chang is nothing but the best. He totally fixed me. I had back surgery #4 from another doctor and things went very wrong I went to see Dr Chang took him tje same MRI disk from the other Dr. That said I just need more time to heal. Dr Chang found 7 different things wrong with my back. 2 screws to far in my spine causing me to pass out. 2 screws that were crooked and a broken screw in my spine. And 2 crooked cages. Dr Chang had to take everything out and redo everything. But the broken screw and the 2 crooked cages because of scare tissue was to bad. Not I can bend over and touch the ground with both hands. And I am fused from L3 To L5,S1. He also did a neck surgery and I am great. The man is nothing but amazing!!!!. Thank you Dr Chang. MIKE A HOOK

I had extreme pain down my left leg for ten months. I was referred to Dr Chang and he did surgery. I am now pain free and am thankful for the excellent care Dr. Chang provided. I would highly recommend him to anyone considering back surgery. His staff provided me with all the answers I needed before and after the surgery.

Dr. Chang is the best doctor I have ever met and he just replaced my spinal cord stimulator for me and he was very thorough and extremely helpful every step of the way. This was my 3rd time getting my spinal cord stimulator replaced and I will never go to another doctor than him! He made me feel like I was important and listened to what I wanted. He explained everything in full detail and I couldn't have asked for a better doctor than him! I had surgery performed by Dr. Chang. To hear I was 5mm away from being paralyzed from the neck down was scary to say the least. Dr. Chang made me feel 100% comfortable and confident in his ability to help me. I cannot express enough that he is the absolute best!! The staff is busy trying to help and coordinate for every need. What I initially thought was rude behavior turned out to be great people trying their best to help every patient in every way. Excellent experience

I had a major back surgery in 2010 out of Swedish Covenant in Chicago, 9 levels fused, 2 discs, scaffolding system to correct curvature. Was experiencing major pains, could barely walk and both feet were almost completely numb. Went to Northwestern and saw their top Doctor after numerous x rays/mri's etc. was told that nothing could be done as far as the damage that was done only Hope's of no further progression. Saw Dr. Mark Chang and he told me that he could reverse most of the damage and prevent further progression which he obtained after an 8 hour surgery! A miracle worker! I thank God every day for guiding Dr. Chang!

He's a good doctor but he has the worst staff of nurses. I called 4 times and not once did I get a call back. I wonder if he knows how bad his staff treats his patients ????

I think Dr. Chang is an exceptional person and surgeon. I am 73 and had spinal stenosis plus a herniated disc. Dr. Chang performed spinal fusion and inserted stabilizing apparatus connecting L4 and L5. Within a week of the surgery I was without pain and within two months I was running and playing golf. I highly recommend Dr. Chang. He exceeds expectation!

Review: Dr. Mark Chang. I had a virtual appointment today at 3:30 p.m. I was asked to check in 30 minutes early, which I did. I was kept waiting for more than an hour. Dr. Chang and his staff must think my time has no value. Because I have other obligations, I had no choice but to log off the virtual appointment. The doctor and his staff should know that this is nothing short of rude, disrespectful behavior. Perhaps he’s a good doctor. I don’t know. But he will not get any accolades from me.

I had a lower back issue that two other doctors could not figure out. After talking to a few friends Dr. Chang’s name came up. I seen Dr. Chang with my issue that has been bothering me for quite some time. After a short first visit then a MRI, he identified my problem, explained to me why I was having my issue and made the recommendations for treatment. Since my issue was not as severe as others I was lucky enough to have physical therapy. A month and a half later and I am feeling great. Chang’s bed side manner is second to none. He explained everything in detail and answered every question I had about my back. He also spoke so I could totally understand what he was saying and what he meant. I have a neighbor that also seen Chang earlier this year about his back problem and he said he has never felt better. Dr Chang is a great and friendly doctor.

My visit with Dr. Mark Chang was exactly how I needed it to be, quick and easy. I was able to work with his staff to receive what felt like an instant appointment. For my appointment, Dr Chang was so kind, very intelligent, and was right on time! He answered all my questions very clearly and explained exactly what needed to happen for my pain relief. It was bittersweet but I was scheduled for surgery the very next day! Dr Chang checked on me before AND after my surgery to see how I was and if I had any questions. My surgery went SO well and I now have ZERO pain. I cannot thank Dr. Chang enough - such a life saver and overall such a kind doctor. I would highly recommend Dr. Chang for your spine care needs!

Dr. Chang performed my back surgery in July 2019. He was so thorough, knowledgeable, patient and kind. Due to his expertise, I've healed without any complications and no longer have any lower back pain. His office staff is also amazing. I wouldn't see any other spine surgeon.

This was my third surgery with Dr. Chang. He discovered multiple myeloma (cancer) during previous kyphoplasty. This time incuded 3 lamenectomies, kyphoplasty for fracture and fusion. All after I was sent home with pain meds from Northwestern Hospital. He is extremely thorough, a clear communicator, and a caring person. He's just the best.

He is compassionate, takes his time with each patient explaining very carefully what procedure he needs to do or what the patient needs to do, and I have never had such a more understanding, and concerned physician/surgeon in all the years I have been under his care. Dr Chang has preformed 3 surgeries on my back. The first surgery was with three coflex implants. Two weeks later I had an emergency surgery due to an infection. Dr Chang opened his office in a Sunday morning to meet me there as it was the the most convient for him to check my back. He sent me straight to the hospital for surgery. Two years later he has to preform surgery on Two additional disc. I think he is one of the most compassionate, and forth coming doctors I have ever dealt with. Wait was not extremely long and most of the time was very prompt. When I was a new patient he took time with me and explained what was needed to fix my problem.

I couldn't be happier with the results of my coflex implants. I suffered from severe back pain for 30 years and now I have real relief from pain! As soon as the anesthesia wore off I was able to walk . Three weeks later I was playing golf. Dr. Chang gave me the opportunity to enjoy life again!! His office staff is superb as well.

Dr. Chang did my last spinal surgery in 2013 and I went back to him in 2018 for spinal fusion on 2 vertebrae in my neck. He is the only one I will let touch me - he is that good. And , he is so kind and understanding- even called me at home on a Sunday !!

Dr. Chang is caring, compassionate & excellent surgeon. When I went in with the MRI disc of my neck on a Thursday, he saw the extreme pain I was in and scheduled me for surgery the next day! After the operation I was pain free. I thanked him for doing such a good job and he told me that God also had a part in guiding him. I had never heard a doctor or surgeon acknowledge that. Just a warm & wonderful human being!!! He also has a staff that is very helpful and friendly.

Dr. Chang is one of the best doctors I ever have been to. He performed spinal surgery on me and put in a titanium spacer, instead of spinal fusion, which limits your mobility. I had cervical spine surgery on 2.4.2019. I received the best possible care from Dr. Chang.He explained everything in detail. Follow up care has been excellent.

In April of 2017, Dr. Chang performed and L4-5 laminectomy, foraminotomy, discectomy with coflex device inserted. Prior to this surgery, I had been misdiagnosed for over 8 months by another orthopedic surgeon. Dr. Chang's surgery provided immediate relief of sciatica in my right leg. His bedside manner and skill is superb. I am still a patient due to an unfortunate accident but can attest that Dr. Chang is an outstanding surgeon who is honest and compassionate.

Dr. Mark Chang is an awesome doctor. His priority is to seek the best for his patients. He is very professional and took the time to listen to questions I had for him. My procedure and recovery went well. I'm back to work and feeling great, friends and family are amazed at my recovery.

Before surgery my pain was unbearable, couldn’t walk far or be on my feet for long periods , spent a lot of time in bed. Dr mark Chang performed a lumbar fusion on my back in September 2018. I noticed a huge difference right after surgery , each day got better. 3 months later and I couldn’t be happier , Dr Chang is the greatest, I’d recommend him to anyone. I’m truly thankful

Dr Chang, Preformed back surgery to relieve back pain on Sept 26 and on Nov 16 he released me. My back and leg pain are both gone. Dr Chang was very informative and kept me informed and did exactly what he said. I would recommend him anybody.

Dr. Chang is a wonderful doctor and surgeon. He has done an outstanding job with my back surgery and I am 2 months ahead of schedule for returning to work!!!

Dr Chang has been my doctor for many years !!! I would recommend him and his staff to anyone ....I don't know what I would do if it weren't for Dr Chang he def is a miracle worker !!

One of the Drs. I've ever had. He did surgery on my spine about 11mths. ago, I fell 100% better.

I found Dr. Chang to be highly professional, competent, compassionate, and personable. He always listened carefully to what I asked and provided excellent answers to my questions. I had fusion back surgery performed by Dr. Chang August, 2017. Dr. Chang is an extremely talented, caring, humble and gentle Doctor. Very detailed in his explanations and thorough. I was hit from behind on May 19th, 2017 while at a four way stop. This accident has caused severe aggravation and unbearable pain. I can only say, Doctor Chang has surrounded himself with a great nurse and support staff at his office. Since my surgery on Jan. 2018 my outlook is bright and I feel pain free and on track for full recovery. Thank You Doctor Chang I feel very well.

My mother (80 y/o) had a compression fracture at L4-L5 which had her in unbearable pain. Dr. Chang performed a 1/2 hour procedure on her that left her pain-free in a short period of time. One negative is Dr. Chang tried to prescribe a hormone that would help augment bone growth, since according to him her bones were some of the thinnest he had ever seen. Insurance would not cover that specific injection, they recommended a similar replacement. I have yet to have any luck having him responding.

Dr. Chang is great. I was having back issues that worsened over several months. I had a herinated disc that was impinging on my sciatic nerve. Dr. Chang recommended surgery. As a young, active female, the thought of having surgery was terrifying. But I trusted Dr. Chang and I have felt so much relief since my surgery. He is committed to his patients. Receptionist is the worst, rude & unfriendly-she is the reason I almost did not return to his office. Rest of staff is amazing.

On March 15 2017 Dr.Mark Chang performed Coflex Surgery on L4&5 and L3&4 of my lower back 3 months later I'm doing great thanks Dr. Chang and your wonderful and great Staff Dale Deransburg

Dr. Chang was referred to me after I asked my primecare doc, "where would u send family member for back help". He said his mom went to Dr. Chang, "he's great". Here's my own experience. First meeting, Dr. Chang listened intently. His focus was comforting & his direction clear w/out over promising. I felt confident. After 6 weeks today, I met w/him w/no more pain. His care w/passion for excellence is what I'm grateful for. Genuine care. But there is a longer wait time at his office.

Dr Chang is a marvel.. I had a double fusion of L3-4 and L4-5 and ever since I woke up after surgery I have been totally pain free. I would absolutely recommend him for any spine surgery. He is caring, sensitive and explains everything to your satisfaction. I need a hip replacement and I wish he did that surgery as well. I wouldn't hesitate to have him as my surgeon.
