Dr. Mary Ruth Motomal Lopez

I started with Dr Lopez shortly before the pandemic hit. She came highly recommended by a couple of friends. She is very friendly and patient, however the communication and organization between her and her staff is awful. One teledoc appointment I had, specifically to go over blood work, was over an hour behind schedule and then when I finally did get on the phone with her, it was like she didn’t even know what this appointment was for and I had to remind her it was to go over blood work. She then had to make me wait even more in order to locate the blood work report, which she should have had before she even called me. Two times, her office scheduled appointments for me that they did not consult me about or even tell me I had the appointment. I found out by the automated call a few days before the appointment. One of these was even after I specifically asked them not to do this. Today, was the last straw. I went in for a well woman visit, which I scheduled as a well woman visit. I purposefully chose Dr Lopez because I wanted a PCP who also did well woman and when I called in 2019 to ask about this was told that yes she did both PCP and well woman. My last pap test results were abnormal and so she referred me to a gynecologist (after weeks of me asking for her to call in the referral) for a biopsy. The biopsy came back totally normal and so I called her for this year’s well woman. Upon making the appointment, her office staff asked specifically if I was sure I wanted this appointment with Dr Lopez instead of the gynecologist. I said I preferred to have just one doctor. They went ahead and made the appointment. Again today, when the nurse was taking my vitals, I was asked the same question - to which I replied that I only wanted to have one doctor. NEVER at any time did they say that she did not want to see me for that but the repeated question made me nervous. I got in the room and got undressed and put on the paper robe. I waited a few minutes. She came in and within the first 5 minutes began almost grilling me as to why I wanted her to do the well woman and not the gynecologist. I again said I wanted one doctor. Finally after a few more minutes of her telling me about my abnormal test last year, even though the biopsy was normal, I asked her if she was telling me that she didn’t want to do my well woman exam. To this she replied, “Well, I’m just a family doctor”. I asked her to leave so I could put my clothes on and as she was leaving, hand on door, she said “I can still do the exam if you want me to.”, but who wants a reluctant doctor doing their examination? I put my clothes on, and told her I wanted my patient records and would be finding a new doctor. When I asked her why her staff made the appointment to begin with, she said “How could they know what I would/ would not do?” It’s almost as if she doesn’t talk to her staff at all. She doesn’t know which patients she has coming in or what they’re there for. I told her I took an entire day off work for this appointment and there was no apology. After I received my paperwork, I said I wanted to have a conversation about what happened today. Dr Lopez this whole time was at a desk in the back office in full view and hearing of the front office where the nurse was printing my records. She never even looked up. The nurse said she would hear what I had to say. I detailed my issues with my care and only when I addressed Dr. Lopez directly by name did she look up and I got a conditional apology “I’m sorry, but…”. This visit was completely frustrating and sort of humiliating and could have been avoided if her staff had told me when I made the appointment that she preferred not to do the exam. They could have said they needed to check with her first. The nurse could also have checked with her upon taking my vitals. I was hopeful about Dr. Lopez’s office at first based on some of the previous good reviews. However, my experience was disappointing. I have switched providers after a constant battle to get birth control every time I needed refills. This office makes it much more difficult than it needs to be. The office went a whole week without putting in the order and when I called multiple times throughout the week, no one could tell me why Dr. Lopez wouldn’t fill it. When I called they were unprofessional, not courteous, and quite frankly rude. The receptionist, Isabella, blamed me and then quickly hung up. Totally ridiculous that I couldn’t even speak directly to the doctor when I asked why I couldn’t get what I needed. I had no idea what the issue was or how to resolve it and the office didn’t seem to have any concern to get it resolved in a timely manner. Even the pharmacy told me I should find a new PCP when I had to call them multiple times to see if Dr. Lopez had sent in the order yet. On another note, Dr. Lopez seems sweet and understanding, but not very easy to get a hold of or get a same day sick appointment with.

I have been going to Dr. Lopez for 5+ years. She is very thorough and genuinely cares about her patients. I had a medical issue that I was concerned about and it was near a holiday. I called and left a voicemail message on the office phone with what was going on. Dr. Lopez personally called me back from home to ask me questions and advised me to go to urgent care for medical attention. It is hard to find good personalized care like Dr. Lopez provides.

Was treated very unprofessionally by the staff. After waiting an hour in my car past my appointment time and still not seeing the doctor, I left. Shortly after leaving the parking lot, I received a call from Dr. Lope's staff person asking me if I was cancelling my appointment. I told her I was and when I tried to tell her why, she was very short with me and then hung up the phone. Needless to say, I will not be going back to Dr. Lopez. And this is unfortunate because I believe Dr. Lopez is a good doctor. If they are going to ignore appointment times, they should just do "first come, first served" instead of requiring an appointment they don't adhere to.
