Literally the nicest man who is a genuinely caring and meticulous doctor. So glad he was my doctor when I had to go to the Emergency Room at Kettering Middletown

I was Power of Attorney for my best friend who was suffering from stage 4 colon cancer. I was out of town on a business trip when my friend went to the ER from his oncologists office after becoming unresponsive while receiving hydration on the unit. He eventually did become responsive but his Oncologist felt he should go to the ER anyway. Oncology staff took him down to the ER and explained the situation. Hours later, Matthew Kiefaber strolls into his room and became focused on what my friend wants to do "if your heart stops", why was my friend there and who was I. Nothing else mattered... ??? 1) Had this Kiefaber looked at one page of my friend's chart, he would have realized we had ALL the details surrounding end of life care written down. Death was all around us at that point. There wasn't a thought which wasn't over shadowed by death. But thanks for making it the focus once again. 2) My friend was completely confused due issues surrounding his illness which were also CLEARLY documented. Why on earth would anyone feel he was capable of making any sort of medical decision is beyond me. 3) What do you mean, why is my friend there? Nurses from his Oncologist's office walked him down to the ER and sat with him until the ER took him at which point the Oncology nurses explained everything to the ER staff. So do you not read a chart as well as not listen to staff? 4) My friend legally appointed me his medical Power of Attorney. I handled ALL his treatment issues from day one. He trusted me to make decisions which were aligned with what he wanted. Why does it matter WHO I am? Would it have been better if we were married? My relationship with my friend was NONE of his business yet was the MAIN focus of our conversation. Matthew Kiefaber is the worst emergency room physician I've ever dealt with. He was overly arrogant and made and made it clear we were wasting his time since my friend was going to die anyway. Watching a loved one die a slow and agonizing death is the worst thing I've ever witnessed. I can't imagine how hard it was for my friend having to go through it. He was diagnosed in the prime of his life and fought so hard against this diseas and against people in the medical community like Matthew Kiefaber who are hell bent on making sure the patients simply give up. Why even get into medicine? We weren't delusional. We knew he wasn't going to recover from this illness. And we honestly we didn't care if a physician's bedside manner is horrible if they have the skill to be that arrogant. We weren't asking for a cure. Compassion for a dying man would have been appreciated but I realize we never would have gotten that. Matthew Kiefaber offered absolutely nothing.
