Was rushed.. and brutal. No numbing gel before shooting 6 shots into the roof of my mouth. Decided to strong-arm pulling a bridge and 2 teeth ALL AT ONCE!! Then was aggravated that I slowed him down because I almost passed out due to the wrenching and pulling. No bedside manner whatsoever.

I highly recommend this place. Dr. Sheffer is very professional and his staff is absolutely amazing! They made me feel comfortable the moment I walked in. Very friendly and welcoming. Paperwork does take some time to fill out, but that is to be expected.

The staff is super nice!!! The surgeon was informative and confident ???????? I've heard good feedback about his procedure from other patients and I can be honest and say that they were absolutely right! Made my first surgery in 10 years go by smoothly. Thank you, Dr. Sheffer and team!!!

Was referred to this place by my dentist Dr. Duffy definitely will be going back the staff and the doctor both were oh so friendly my 1st visit was for a consultation for impacted wisdom teeth they worked with my work schedule and got me in quick so that I can get them out being that I had never been cut on or ever had I gotten a IV put in before I was a nervous wreck but the nice staff talked to me throughout the whole process and before you knew it all I remember was Dr Sheffer coming in asking me how I was doing my response was '' I AM JUST READY TO GET IT OVER WITH' he then proceeded ta say ok you're about to get sleepy now I dozed off and when I woke up it was over with I would recommend this place to anybody not only was the environment great but the people where too and the next day they call and check on yhu I don't ever remember any other staff members and Drs ever doing that but I most definitely will be going back. I was referred to Dr by my dentist. They have been really nice and caring on visits. Would refer him to everyone. His staff is very caring and answers any questions you may have.

This is a very nice clean building! Staff are very friendly and Matthew Sheffer was awesome. I would definitely recommend anyone! They got me in when it was convenient for me and worked with my schedule. The next day they check on you by calling you and they are all professional.

Dr Sheffer was extremely professional and his staff was second to none. I called, they got me in immediately and were extremely professional, caring and courteous during the whole time. If you need oral surgery done in the Southwest Missouri area, I highly recommend this practice you won’t be disappointed.

Same day consultation and wisdom teeth extraction with my son was great. Dr Sheffer and all of the staff were very kind, provided us information and instructions for the next few days that made his recovery very smooth. The staff called and checked on him the next day, which I thought was nice. I definitely would recommend.

Will never go back. Did not numb me appropriately and pulled the tooth anyways then scraped the infection out. Was not nice about it or apologize for the pain I was in. I left in tears. Will never go back!

all the staff was very friendly and willing to answer any questions. got us in on time and scheduled quick for the surgery. i very highly recommend them.

I had teeth pulled here a few years back and my son recently had his wisdom teeth pulled as well. The staff was very nice and polite. Dr. Scheffer was nice as well. They let me stay back with my son until it was time for doctor to hear the care instructions and everything, even though he is an adult. i thought that was very thoughtful and nice. They did the consult told me all the pricing up front. explained very well to me. i appreciate them . I have and will continue to refer them to my friends and family. Dr. Sheffer is tough, professional, and gets in there and gets the job done. Very good with local pain blocking injections. Only rough part is the wait to get in to see him. Put yourself on their "call" list and staff will possibly call you for an earlier appointment if there's a cancellation. Very happy with him and wouldn't consider going elsewhere for complex dental procedures!

Dr. Shaffer and staff are wonderful. They were able to schedule my wisdom teeth extraction one week in advance because I had a very short window of time to have the surgery and recover before the start of college classes. And when issues with my Insurance came up (on the end of the insurance company) the staff was incredibly patient and helped me resolve the issue with patients. Definitely would recommend Dr. Shaffer at Joplin Oral Surgery!

Waited three months to get in for a consultation on a painful impacted wisdom tooth. 5 days before the consultation I go into my regular dentist because the pain was intolerable. My dentist gave me a course of antibiotics and tried to go ahead and pull it, as it's clearly causing me problems. Couldn't pull it, so she put a slice in my gums to drain the infection and gave me enough pain meds to get me to my consultation. My dentist assured me that Joplin Oral Surgery would help me at my appointment the following week. Fast forward to my appointment, I completed the paper work online prior to my appointment. Checked in and waited in the lobby. We waited, and waited then I received a call from Joplin oral Surgery asking why I wasn't at my appointment. I told them I am sitting in your lobby. They asked if I had completed my paper work, I said yes. They said ok the front desk must have forgot to let us know, I'm flexible so it wasn't a big deal. I was just glad to get some help for my mouth. It hurt before my dentist tried to pull it, now it is unbearable. Any way, We continued to sit in the lobby while they called two other people before us. Finally a nurse called my name. Didn't greet me or smile or apologize for the confusion and wait. Just sat me down in a chair and proceeded to ignore me for 15 more minutes while looking over my file.. Came back and said the needed an X-ray as the one I had was old. Took the X-ray without so much as a smile and sat me back in my room. The dentist finally comes in, tells me his name and then says he's going to get my quote together. A few minutes later his nurse comes back and tells me how much everything is going to costs and then tells me she will take me to the front desk to make my appointment. I asked if the dentist was going to look at my mouth, she gives me a strange look and says "if you want him to..." I said well I'm in a lot of pain and explained the appointment the week and before and reminded her that my dentist called them ahead of time. The dentist comes in and looks at my mouth for about 30 seconds and tells me there's no cut in my mouth and it must have healed already because he can't see it. I tell him I can literally put my tongue in the hole and taste blood and infection. He tells me there's no hole no blood, and nothing he can dountill my ppoinmentnto have it removed. I literally left his office in tears. The rude nurse leads me to the front desk to make my appointment and I try to explain again that I'm in pain and my dentist had called ahead and I was told they would help me. She just shrugs it off and makes me an appointment, first for in 3 weeks, then I finally talk her into a sooner appointment later this week, but they act like they're doing me a huge favor. The staff was not friendly. We waited patiently , first 3 months for this appointment , and then an hour in their lobby for them to tell me how much it's going to cost. I missed two hours of work for a "consultation". I would recommend staying far away from this office. They are unorganized, unfriendly and unhelpful. I will be taking my business elsewhere. When I scheduled my appointment I told the receptionist that I was wanting a same day consultation and surgery. When I arrived the day of my appointment they didn't have me scheduled for surgery the same day, but I got lucky because they had a spot for me anyways. Dr. Shaffer's bedside manner could improve. He did sit down next to me and draw on a piece of paper which I thought was nice, but his overall expression and interest in my particular case felt like he was less than enthusiastic about it. After waiting for about an hour for my turn he came in, grabbed a syringe and injected it into my IV, a few moments later he said "oooook you're about to get sleepy... I'm a registered nurse and it would have been a kind gesture on his part if he would have maybe walked me through his process prior to jumping into putting me to sleep. So, after I woke up I was placed in a wheelchair and taken to my car. I didn't get discharge instructions for my own ears, I had to get it all second hand from my husband. Which I understand sort of because I was coming out of sedation, but I still remember that all and I felt out of the loop most of the day due to not hearing anything directly from the staff myself, I also didn't get a wrap up of the procedure from any medical staff, including the physician. The facility is very nice, but the fact you walk in and see two skulls in a case was innapropriate I felt as well, didn't give off a welcome feel. If I had more wisdom teeth to have removed I personally wouldn't go back. When I scheduled my appointment I told the receptionist that I was wanting a same day consultation and surgery. Extremely disappointed in the care my son received having two teeth removed. The staff was rude to my son, did not give him proper pain medication. I would NEVER recommend this man to anyone.

My dentist had recommended for years that i should get a back tooth that had broken & had decay under a crown removed. Dr. Sheffer was excellent in calming my fears. The staff was remarkable in taking my calls post surgery because I was worried. He seen me 2 additional times to calm my fear. 5?

Assistant is obnoxious and has a terrible attitude. The dr wouldnt even to me too address my dental needs. if given choice DO NOT visit this dentist. EVER.

Two appointments with Dr Sheffer - one for consultation and one for extraction of all 4 impacted wisdom teeth for my 15-year-old son. The Dr and all of the staff we encountered were very knowledgeable and personable! The procedure and expectations for recovery were completely explained by Dr and staff (and a video) and all of our questions were answered.

I was put in the chair & left alone with an IV in my arm for about 20 minutes. No one came to check on me. Staff was very unfriendly and not welcoming at all. The nurse was upset about another coworker and was slamming drawers and whispering to another co-worker about the office drama. I strongly urge anyone to look elsewhere for oral surgery...

Exceptional care. I didn't have much pain at all after the prodedure

I had all 4 wisdom teeth extracted at once (with full sedation- I have 0 pain tolerance). Dr. Sheffer came in and talked to us n answered our questions. He was very nice n personable. My husband tells me he only had to wait 20 min! I was still awake when my husband n mom left me and within 20 min, I was completely asleep n had all 4 teeth extracted!!! Amazing! It is the day after, and I have 0 pain! I was thinking I would be miserable all weekend....nope! Heading out to shop now!
