About Dr. Patty Lee
Reviews for Dr. Patty Lee
Dr. Patty Lee is truly an awesome doctor/surgeon. She is not one to chat about your vacation or how your family is doing. She gets right to the reason you are in her office and will answer any and all questions you have for her and will not leave the room until you have all of your answers.
Given very little time and pretty bad bed-side manner.

I was referred to Dr. Lee by my internist for what was a suspected case of Eagle's Syndrome based on my symptoms (neck pain on rotation; and sporadic heart palpitations) an abnormal CT that showed calcified and elongated styloid ligaments. I had done my own research into this condition and had seen several CT scans that looked just like mine. It is a rare condition but very real. Dr. Lee looked at my CT scan and said point blank that I didn't have Eagle's Syndrome. She was abrupt , dismissive and upset that I done my own research. I called my internist in tears because I thought I was crazy. My internist called the radiologist who told her that my styloids were the longest he had EVER seen...EVER. I found a doctor a University of Pennsylvania who immediately diagnosed me and performed surgery a month later. I hate to say this about a female physician, but Dr. Lee's ego makes her dangerous. Find a different doctor.
Not sure if she remembers me but Dr Lee saved my life in 2000 when I was 12. I had an infection growing near the base of my brain. I will forever be grateful to her
My child is experiencing a sudden hearing loss. Dr. Lee's bedside manner is very rude - she acted as if she was bothered when answering my questions. She spent less than 10 mins with the recent consultation. Worst of all, she left out a significant neurological finding in our recent radiology report, and I discovered it only after carefully reading the report at home. It could potentially relate to the hearing problems, and she also should have brought it to my attention for a neurologist visit. I would never recommend her.
I was diagnosed with oral cancer in late 2019 and was told I needed to go see an ENT. I went to see Dr. Patty Lee and could not have selected a better physcian. She was direct in her explanations which I appreciated, as i did not want anything to be sugar coated. I had extensive surgey in January 2020 to excise the tumor and spent 7 days in the hospital. I felt completely confident in her hands and 1 1/2 years later would not have wanted anyone else to have taken care of me. I still see her for my follow-ups and trust her judgment in all things dealing my care.
DR. PATTY LEE WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER!!!!!! They did NOT get back to my mom with her results. She had an important test done and she needed the results. She has been calling since 11am this morning and the line is busy as of 3pm. Very bad customer service. NOT TO MENTION SHE IS A NEW PATIENT. Dr. Patty Lee is a rock star and a life-changer. My left vocal cord was/is paralyzed by recurrent cancer and Dr. Lee stepped up and stepped in - In a very compassionate and urgent way- to give me a ‘semblance of my voice back and quality of life. Her staff is extremely responsive and supportive and made my surgery easy-peasy. Dr. Lee is a competent, confident and no-nonsense surgeon. She is upfront and honest about options and risks... and well, what more could I ask for?? She’s the best! Thank you for giving me voice again! Dr. Patty Lee is a rock star and a life-changer. Extremely rude. Misread a pathology report and told me I did not have cancer when in reality it said it was inconclusive - I ended up HAVING CANCER. Then proceeded to rush me out of her office after wildly prescribing an antibiotic.
If you have sudden hearing loss, never visit Dr. Lee. She has no experience on how to treat it. Sudden hearing loss is treatable, without proper treatment on time, you may lose hearing permanently. When I visited him,she spent a few minutes with me and asked me to get a hearing aid, that is all.
I went to this doctor once several years ago. I signed in and waited in the waiting room for almost an hour. Her staff working the front desk somehow messed up and never called my name. When I inquired they told me she was at lunch. I told them I was on time and have been here an hour. So one of them went and told her. The women came back and said she had agreed to see me. But I do think the woman made it sound to Dr Lee I was being demanding and was late for my appointment. I am pretty sure she did not tell that she had messed up and not called my name. Dr Lee came in the room abruptly and not in a good mood probably because I had interrupted her lunch. So her bedside manner was questionable to say the least. In the 2 minutes she was in the room she was just very direct and outright rude. She looked at my tonsils and said they should have been removed years ago. I remember her saying to me they are so large. Then she said she said then again everything about you is large. She was very little. I am almost 6'4 and was around 290 lbs. She was dismissive of everything I said regarding my right nostril being blocked. All she wanted was a sleep study done. Been there done that. I had to go elsewhere to be told what I had thought. I had a deviated septum not a sleep disorder. I went to this doctor once several years ago. I signed in and waited in the waiting room for almost an hour. The best.
The staff was courteous and professional. Dr Lee was delightful and professional. She made good reccomendation
Visiting Dr Lee was a complete waste of time. I drives for my appt 20 mins early and wasn’t seen until 25 minutes after my appt time. She spent. Ore time looking at my nose that my tongue/throat which is why I scheduled my visit. She concluded that I was getting blisters and burning sensations on my tongue because I grind my teeth while I sleep. This is insane, as her suggestion isn’t even a side effect of teeth grinding. She also told me to not use mouth wash with alcohol in it even though I stopped using that type of months ago already. I want my $20 copay back. Visiting Dr Lee was a complete waste of time. Very thorough and knowledgeable.
Extremely clear in her diagnosis and recommendations. I would recommend her to anyone needing to see an otolaryngologist for treatment.
Have known Patty many years and without question she is a highly knowledgeable and competent doctor who cares about her patients over the long term - I am very fortunate to have her taking care of my issue
Dr. Patty Lee spent a good amount of time with me explaining my options and everything I needed to consider for next steps in my treatment plan. She did a thorough exam and answered all of my questions.
I have seen Dr Lee for years. She has been thorough And taken the time to listen to me. As my issues Have worsen and my insurance has changed she never fails to see me when I seek her out for a second opinion.
Dr Lee and her staff were welcoming and professional. She had thoroughly familiarized herself with the information we provided on line. Through her questions, decision making and answers to our own questions, she communicated both care and expertise.
If you need ear/nose/throat surgery in northern Virginia , Dr. Lee should be your first pick, as she is "the best this side of Boston" according to several specialists I spoke with in the area prior to my surgery. She performed a parotidectomy on me and it was flawless. She is terse, and may not have the most charming bedside manner, but at the end of the day my facial nerve is intact, and I have several decades of healthy living ahead of me thanks to her excellent surgical ability and this is overwhelmingly the most important quality I seek in a surgeon. A friend recommended Dr. Lee when I was diagnosed with throat cancer. I phoned her office, explained my situation, and was given a next-day appointment. The first doctor I called wanted me to wait 2 weeks. I was impressed with Dr. Lee from the beginning. She was careful, thorough, and knowledgeable. I highly recommend her. A word of caution: Dr. Lee can be direct and to the point. She is not especially warm and friendly. But I believe you will have difficulty finding a better ENT than she. I would recommend Dr. Lee to anyone looking for a top-notch otolaryngologist. I have had three office visits with Dr. Lee at the Fairfax location of Otolaryngology Associates - two preoperative visits and a post-op visit in conjunction with a surgery which was performed by Dr. Lee at the Fairfax Surgical Center. I was treated with courtesy by the staff both on the phone and in the office. I did not have to wait more than five minutes to see the doctor however in my view if she were running behind it would be worth the wait. I like Dr. Lee's style. She is busy and efficient with her time but I did not feel rushed. She gave candid answers to my questions and explained what she was doing and why in a manner that I could understand. The Fairfax Surgical Center is a well run operation and with the help of Dr Lee's steady hand the surgery went well. I chose Dr. Lee because of her professional training, clinical interests, and extensive experience. I am glad I did. I would recommend Dr. Lee to anyone looking for a top-notch otolaryngologist. She is direct and to the point, but incredibly rude and dismissive. I don't recommend.
It seems she is an acceptable doctor for cancer patients, upon reading reviews. Perhaps it's because she considers that the only Real concern. However, my experience with her made it seem like she should not even have a medical license. I went to her about sinus issues I'd been having. She was incredibly rude from the moment she walked in, before I said a word, and judgmental in a very unprofessional way. But I've had rude doctors before, so that was not even the main issue. She is incompetent. My main complaints: 1) She made claims about septoplasty not supported by recent research and was rude and dismissive when that research was mentioned, 2) She failed to diagnose blockages in my sinuses caused by bone growth (said my sinuses were clear! I saw these growths for myself) that another doctor saw almost immediately and he could not understand how she missed it, 3) She aggressively tried to give me unsolicited advice on managing my allergies even after I told her I have a highly respected, excellent allergist who is actually a specialist in that field...she told me I should go back on a medicine I was on when younger that I was taken off for good reason, and if that's what I should be doing (it's not), my allergist would be doing that. That was not her role and just was ridiculous behavior. 4) When I was asking questions at the end, she gave abrupt non-answers while moving closer to the door, clearly just waiting for me to stop being concerned about my health so she could leave. These questions were important and she didn't really answer them, defeating the point of going to see a doctor. It was very childish. Not to mention that she was extremely condescending the entire time, and from the moment the door opened her whole attitude was "I don't have time for this idiot." I hadn't even spoken yet! And she clearly hadn't read the form I'd filled out, so knew nothing about me, so where was this contempt towards me coming from? If she is burnt out as a doctor and hates her patients before she knows a thing about them, then it is harming people for her to continue working in the field. She told me having 1-2 bacterial sinus infections a year is "normal" (it most definitely is not; I've never met a single soul who gets them that often except for chronic sinusitis cases). Certainly it happens but is far from normal. Especially considering I do saline rinses and flonase daily and use sudafed and afrin when necessary. Getting regular sinus infections despite that is not normal. I told her this. No response. She dismissed my concerns about taking antibiotics 1-2x a year for the rest of my life, especially since I am allergic to most antibiotics so I don't have many, if any, other options if I become resistant. Told me to just continue taking those antibiotics forever and that it was unlikely to be a problem. Unlikely? Maybe. Deadly if it does happen? Yes. She shrugged that off. Literally shrugged her shoulders. Thankfully I saw Dr. Edwin Lee and he found the blockages and performed surgery on me. I am a few weeks out from the operation so I can't speak to the long-term results, but I can say that when I do the saline rinse I can actually feel it going into my sinus cavities now, which it never did before, so it's clearly made a difference. It actually freaked me out a little the first time! Now I know why people find the rinses to be an odd sensation. It is very clear my sinuses were blocked and I'm very hopeful that my preventative regimens will be enough to keep the infections at bay from now on. If I couldn't afford to go to another doctor after her? I'd be screwed. I don't believe she should take patients if she can't competently treat them. If she only wants to treat cancer patients because she can actually do that? Fine. But she shouldn't have wasted my time, money, and energy. She was negligent medically and interacting with someone so awful was extremely draining. I basically paid to have my day ruined and receive the medical treatment one would get from a narcissistic med student who is failing all their classes. It seems she is an acceptable doctor for cancer patients, upon reading reviews. Perhaps it's because she considers that the only Real concern. However, my experience with her made it seem like she should not even have a medical license. … More

Dr Lee was extremely helpful in my case. I had a challenging tumor with complicated choices for its care. Dr. Lee clearly explained my condition and all my choices, and helped me understand the benefits and risks of my treatment options.
Rude and dismissive. Bad experience. I mentioned my symptoms and previous diagnosis. She performed an examination and asked me if I had an infection. The purpose of the visit was to determine that. She told me nothing was wrong with me. That's great news. However, my symptoms worsened over the next day or so. A CVS minute clinic diagnosed a sinus infection. The underlying chronic condition still exists. I don't recommend.

Terrible bedside manner. If there was a way to rank lower I would. No compassion for serious illness. Arrogance and bad attitude prevented proper treatment. I sat waiting for 50 minutes for her after being placed in assessment room. She did not apologize for being late or explain reason for the delay. Instead she walked in with terrible attitude making the remaking appointment worse. I requested to NEVER to see her again. Would perfer to see nurse practitioner or office administrator.
She is a horrible doctor. Did not take my problem seriously and she accused my friend of "recording her conversation" when she CLEARLY was not! Do not recommend at all.
Dr Lee performed a total thyroidectomy on me. I could not have been happier with her - both her skill as a surgeon and her professionalism.
