Dr. Robert A. Silverman

I have been going to see Dr. Silverman for years. He is exceptionally skilled in medicine and also is a great guy.

The pre-registration seemed redundant and pointless. The wait time took 30 min to be seen which was quite annoying. Dr. Silvermann was great but unfortunately didn't have a diagnosis for my son. I can't speak for the other services as I didn't have anything removed or examined on myself.

Dr.Silverman was very informative during my one year olds appointment, overall i had a really good experience in the office... front desk and MA were very nice and helpful. I feel a lot of relief after seeing Dr.Silverman as a first time mom any weird thing on your child makes you go crazy, but I'm glad everything is okay. Thank you Dr.Silverman!

Dr Silverman has been our Dermatologist for more than 15 years. He is consistently not only our top doctor but also the choice of so many in Northern Virginia. His offices are state of the art and the other doctors and staff in the practice are professional and courteous.

Dr. Silverman is probably the most knowledgeable physician I know. Years ago he spotted a melanoma on my back and sent me off quickly to the surgeon to get it removed before it metastasized.

I have been a patient of Dr. Silverman for almost 25 years. He is an excellent dermatologist. He listens to his patient's concerns, is very thorough in his examination, and my visits are never rushed. Highly recommend.

All staff were helpful and pleasant, from the front desk to the medical assistants. Dr. Silverman has an excellent bedside manner in addition to his extensive expertise, which made an appointment for several difficult conditions very easy for my daughter with special needs. She was happy and confident throughout the appointment, which is a first for her. Dr. Silverman gave us a detailed treatment plan and explained everything very patiently in a way that my daughter could understand, which is crucial for her cooperation with treatment at home. The medical assistant also gave us a list of helpful hints and contact information for home care and the follow up, which is so very helpful when dealing with multiple issues.

Everyone was wonderful with my three year old. You can really tell they have experience working with young children. Silverman explained everything carefully and was very helpful.

I have been seeing Dr. Silverman for over 15 years now...absolutely one of the best doctors in any specialty that I have ever used as a medical professional. He now sees my wife and has seen my three children whenever skin conditions became an issue. Thorough, patient and professional (while still friendly) he is a pleasure to have on our side.

Dr. Silverman is the only dermatologist I’ll see (and I’ve tried many). He’s extremely capable, takes his time with his patients, and is a good listener.

Dr. Silverman was really helpful, professional and informative. He takes his time and made sure to involve me during every step of my son’s evaluation. I was so impressed with the office staff and the doctors especially Dr. Robert Silverman at this practice. The receptionist was kind, well organized and had a fantastic personality. The nurses, PAs and Dr. Silverman were the same - very kind, intelligent, explained the medical diagnosis and discussed treatment plans for my young toddler. It was an amazing experience. Robert Silverman is a kind, knowledgable, and patient doctor. He cured my cystic acne! I have been seeing him for many years now and I admit his staff used to be very rude. Now, he has different staff and moved a floor down (same building).

I had have rosacea for about 15 years and this is the first dermatologist I've seen that doesn't try and sell me facial washes. If you go into his office, he'll take one look at you and start naming exactly what it is. Now my rosacea is so much better after just one month. I'm excited to see how it'll look over time. I've been using him off and on for 20 years, as have several family members. The experience has always been great. He takes the time to listen, offers good, frank advice and addresses whatever concern I have. We continue to use him and expect to do so for the foreseeable future. I went to him last week after developing a rash on the back of my neck and constant scalp itching. He diagnosed it as a cumulative reaction to using the an off-brand liquid version of Minoxidil/Rogaine, suggested a topical cream to take care of the current problem that worked well. He also explained that using certain hair dyes can also cause the same problem a couple weeks after use. He offered to recommend an alternative brand formulation of Minoxidil that probably will not cause the reaction, so I will try this instead. (Apparently, it is not the active ingredient that caused the reaction, but some of the other inactive ingredients that will vary by manufacturer.)

I cannot say enough positive things about Dr Silverman. He is a kind person and a thoughtful and curious healthcare provider.

I took my son to see Dr. Silverman when his rash that was diagnosed by his pediatrician as ringworm didn't go away. Dr. Silverman was immediately able to confirm my suspicions that the rash wasn't ringworm. He was friendly towards my son and me. He took the time to thoroughly explain the cause of the rash and how to treat it, and what steps to take to prevent it from re-occurring. His staff was friendly and wonderful too. The appointment was made about 3 weeks out from when I first called, so expect that you won't get in immediately to be seen. But Dr. Silverman is definitely worth the wait.

I brought my daughter to see Dr. Silverman after having spent 3 years working with another dermatologist. What a difference! Dr. Silverman took the time to ask questions, discuss options for her acne problem and answer any questions she had. Time was not an issue and we left feeling confident in his recommended treatment - which was much different than our previous MD who kept my daughter on the same treatment for 3 years with no change to her problem. Personable, patient, sympathetic, understanding...Dr. Silverman was a pleasure to visit.

Dr. Silverman treated my 7 year old daughter for some common, minor issues. His office is run like a dream and everyone from the receptionist to the medical assistant/nurse is on top of their game. Dr. Silverman himself has a wonderful bedside manner and exudes the perfect mix of smarts, common sense, and charm. He communicated with my daughter in a way that made her feel acknowledged and important. He was swift and decisive (which is exactly what I like from a good practitioner) but it was clear that he would have entertained all questions/comments if I had any. I didn't because I was instantly confident in him, he explained everything clearly, and there was no reason to waste time. I will only take her to him and would go to him myself. He is "the guy" to handle dermatological issues large and small for all ages. 5 stars is not enough.

My first impression of this office is that they are extremely rude and unprofessional. I called to inquire about the hours of operation and that I was interested in bringing my son there. I was cut off mid question and told that it didn't matter what their hours were because I need to call back in August, they won't be accepting new patients until the Fall. I'm extremely torn writing this post - primarily because the doctor was amazing, but the receptionist is far from it. I initially called to make an appointment upon my pediatrician's recommendation, but was immediately told by the receptionist that they were not taking any new patients. When I tried to explain that I was recommended by my pediatrician, she immediately asked me what type of insurance I have. I was a little confused as to why this was relevant if there were no slots available. Anywho, I answered her and she kept being adamant about not taking some specific insurance, can't exactly recall which one. After that, I reached out to my pediatrician and let her know that I was told they weren't taking any new patients because she told me to let her know and shortly after, I received another call from the receptionist basically lying about never telling me that they weren't taking new patients. I remember specifically because I was so distraught knowing that there's not many pediatric dermatologists in the area and my son had a bump on his head that would grow and shrink since he was about 2 weeks old - it was important for us to figure out if it was something that was harmful to him. Fast forward to today, I called about a bill that I wanted to pay, but when I called, the amount was different from what was showing on my bill. When I tried to ask about what the additional amount was for, I was given such attitude that it prompted me to write this post. She forwarded me to someone in billing named Lori who was awesome, so I'm extremely thankful for that interaction. My son 21 years old autism we tried so many allergist and dermatologist not find the issue. Thank god Dr.Silverman found second visit. He is really outstanding. I think patients like office look and receptionist and office staff. Please whoever write review consider Doctor treatment method, etc.

I didn't have the problems with reception desk that others are mentioning. They did explain to me that the first available appointment was not till a few months out. I was bummed, but my child was suffering, had gotten full body skin infections, I'd spent thousands of dollars on prescriptions that didn't work, as i had just been going for treatment for my son from his pediatrician, and another pediatric dermatologist and still no improvement in my son's skin condition. i was determined to find another doctor and get him looked at. When the day finally arrived, everything went smoothly for checkin. I did have a bit of a wait in the waiting room, but i don't think it was anything abnormal from other doc offices. Dr. Silverman is a true master of his trade. He went through all the symptoms like it was an investigation he was doing and trying to get to the bottom of a mystery. He explained to me his findings and gave me a treatment plan. My son had been misdiagnosed for two years by the pediatrician and the other pediatric dermatologist. I really appreciated Dr. Silverman and his staff. My husband had booked the appointment and had no issue, and I attended the appointment for my almost 5 yr old son, and brought my almost 2 yr old. We were kind of a mess; I did not fill out the new patient paperwork ahead of time, we were a few mins late and they brought us back before I had even finished the paperwork. The office is very nice and I felt they were completely equipped and comfortable handling young unpredictable kids. My youngest made the stinkiest diaper right before we walked in and the poor nurse had no problem letting me change him while we went over symptoms for my older son. My older son can be very nervous but the doctor and nurses made him feel completely comfortable. Dr. Silverman especially. We did have to take a potty break for my oldest during the appointment and it was no problem, and the nurse actually played with my younger son to help out. The Dr. explained everything clearly, options and reasons for the treatment he suggested, was gentle with my son, gracious with the bit of chaos two children can start in a small exam room (and had the nurse show them how to color on the electronic whiteboard while we talked), AND generous with his time. My kiddo trusted him to try some treatment on the spot, and (we all) felt valued and cared for. I was even able to make an appointment for myself with the other dermatologist in the office, coordinated for when my son comes back for a follow up. I went to Dr. Silverman for a growth on my neck. He took a sample and said that he would contact me if it was cancerous and I needed to come in to have it cut out. He never called. I had to call him to check and although it wasn't the "bad" kind of cancer, he suggested that I come in to have it removed. Had I not called I would not have known my condition. Everyone is entitled to a mistake and I gave it a pass. Fast forward to today. Last month I went in to have a couple of bumps looked at below my waist. He said I could live with them or he could cut them out. I scheduled an appointment to have them removed. I had to cancel that appointment and reschedule. This past weekend, I was working in the yard and a combination of heat and rubbing caused the bump (a cyst) to create a painful abscess. I called Dr. Silverman's office to see he he could see me sooner than my scheduled appointment only to get a voice-mail recording that the office was closed until the first week of August. My scheduled appointment was between now and the first week of August and no one called to inform me or reschedule. I am taking my business elsewhere. The office staff is extremely unprofessional and rude. starting with the office manager. I was calling to make an appointment for my daughter as a new patient, which I remembered later that I have seen this doctor about 10 years ago myself, so it would be really adding a family member. The front desk girl had an attitude right when I asked her if they accept Aetna POSII, which she kept referring to as PPO and asked me to call my insurance. When I asked to speak to the manger she immediately started defending her staff without wanting to hear me out. I called the office in Sept 2017 for an appointment for my young son. The office said not accepting new patients until January. I told him the Pediatrician said to have my son's skin looked at immediately. Office said no. And, to have the appointment in January I would have to call in November. It is a silly way to run an office. After I saw other posts here, I concur with very low ratings for the staff. I can not speak for the doctor because he hasn't seen us yet; first we have to get past the what appears to be egotistical incompetent front line.
