Dr. Aarat Patel

This doctor without seeing my daughter has offered our insurance company a position to deny her Enbrel for her Juvenile Arthritis. Not Recommended.

Finally have answers. Cried only because I felt like I had a doctor who just got it!

I first met Dr. Patel when my son was in UVA hospital. Two words: Simply Amazing. He listened to my concerns, answer all of my questions and called back in a timely manner.

Dr. Patel is always willing to answer questions, no matter how many times I may ask. He is a fun doctor for my daughter, he even checks out the ears on her headbands when we are there, which makes her laugh.

I don't useally write reviews but feel strongly about my experience with Dr. Patel. I went in with no expectations or answers because I had been to many Dr's and always the same answers. I don't see anything wrong. He listened to all my concerns, did a through exam & bloodwork. He diagnosed me and began a regimen of meditation and therapy immediately. I have found that the staff is a reflection of the Dr. they work for and a good Dr. demands good staff. They are all courteous and professional and enjoy the patients they serve. The office is always clean and I never found myself waiting for more than the expected time. Unfortunately I have moved and i'm looking for a new rheumatologist but skeptical to find someone who has the ability or patience to address my concerns. I will say he is absolutely amazing. The doctor I had before him pushed medication on me I was taking up to 12 pills a day. When I met dr. Ararat Patel he was very understanding and seem to listen and did not want me taking a lot of medications and have gotten me on a really good Regimen and I actually have better days with fewer flare ups I will say he is absolutely amazing. I have had the worst care experience with Dr. Patel. Do not go to him. He does not listen, he does not follow up and the team in his office is just as bad. I do NOT recommend this doctor. I can't even give him one star, but HealthGrades requires at least one to submit a review. In reality, I rate him and his practice a zero.

Practice was shut down due to COVID exposure and no one communicated to us to reschedule appointment despite knowing we were traveling from Blacksburg and booking hotel overnight. Doctor was the only person in building after receiving his negative COVID result. Greeted us and examined all by himself and was very courteous about incident. Wore double mask and sanitized throughout examining. As always he was aggressive with disease but doesn’t want to overmedicate either. Friendly and playful. Would wholeheartedly recommend.

Horrible experience. Waited SEVEN MONTHS for an appointment for my son, to only be tested for Lyme Disease which I told him would be negative because he had already been tested twice in the appropriate amount of time. He must know better than me and ordered it anyways. Guess what??? It was negative. Insurance wouldn’t even cover it due to being unnecessary. We were entirely dismissed. When called with the negative result, I was given no options as to what next, meanwhile my 6 year old is dealing with weekly joint pain. I brought a “joint pain journal.” He told me to keep one, I informed him I had one with me. He told me he didn’t need to see it, just to keep doing it and if my son had a flare up like the one that caused him to go to the ER to then contact him. I explained I was there to avoid that. I left in tears. And no answers. EXTREMELY disappointed.

Numbers of sleep studies and testings he repeatedly insisted we do were repeatedly unavailable. The diagnosis he gave us was disputed by several doctors. He was impatient, unwilling to listen, in a hurry each visit, expensive, and the visits were quite useless. We won't return. I'd give him less than one star if possible.

Dr. Patel was the worst physician I ever had. I had been diagnosed with Fibromyalgia and another illness about 5 years ago. In the beginning he was very informative, attentive, and seemed very concerned and I really thought I would get the answers and treatment I needed. Well it's been 5years and my condition is worse and he told me it was no medication that he could give me for my Fibromyalgia and other illness. I told him I was experiencing new symptoms and would like further testing to be done far as lab work he basically told me no that there was no need. I would not recommend him to anyone. My experience with him was awful and it was a waste of time seeing him throughout the past 5 years because I still have the same problems and issues with no treatment so I'm left to suffer. My husband is a patient of Dr Patel, he is more considered with his computer and not talking with his patients. My insurance company denied the medication that Dr Patel prescripted for my husband and didnt fight or call the insuracne company. He let the insurance pretty much pick his medication. I am confused why he never called or check on him in the last 3 months, now going on 6 months with NO MEDS! We are still waiting for approval for a medication. Former Scribe of Dr. Patel for one year. Rheumatology is a fast paced field, with newer and more advanced medications released every year. If you don't stay up to date, your patient's suffer from archaic, less effective treatments and unnecessary procedures. This guy is on the cutting edge of how to treat adults and children with rheumatologic disease from speaking at engagements, clinical research, presenting at conferences, and a pretty impressive educational background. It can be tricky to find a rheumatologist that actually upholds the current standards of evidence-based medicine in this field, but I wouldn't hesitate to send a family member to see him. I am so thankful for this genuine, caring and knowledgeable doctor. He helped us through our daughter’s diagnosis and managed her care for the last 4 years. Without him, she would still be suffering. My son saw Dr. Patel. My son had severe anxiety around doctors and needles and medicine and Dr. Patel singlehandedly relieved all his anxiety. He’s fun and laid back and helps normalize doctors visits. We love him.

Amazing doctor! We saw him for the first time today for my daughter and I’m very pleased! We have been trying to figure out what’s going on for over a year now and I feel like Dr. Patel accomplished more in this first appointment then all the other doctors we have seen in the last year. I'm gone now, moved back to the west coast. I have worked with and supported Dr.Aarat Patel the past 5 plus years and I can tell you he is a very caring doctor. Exceptionally qualified in his field! the proof of that is in his office he has a multitude of professional degrees and certificates validating his background. But the best thing is how funny, kind and giving he is, there is a genuine concern for staff and patients. Dr.Patel is a very busy physician working in 2 separate healthcare systems also working with both children and adults specializing of course with the kids. In the Bon Secours practice he is the only physician that has taken in patients when they are late or don't have an appointment, his caring allows him to be flexible. Dr. Patel does things behind the scenes that others don't see that ensures me he is a good person and it takes a good person to be a good doctor! Dr.Patel is NOT full of himself but very humble. Dr. Patel educates and guides his patients, both new and old, through some of the most difficult times of their lives, day in and day out. He takes the time to listen to his patients without jumping to conclusions. He stays up to date with cutting edge treatments while making sure his patients don't break the bank. Tried getting an appointment said would call back in twenty four hours well twenty seven hours later I received a call back and missed it called as soon as I got it it was 4;45 so close to closing maybe they didn't say they were closed left a message to be called back in the order it was received no call . so called Monday nine am the guy said someone would call me back in 24 hours yeah right it's been 29 hours now . God help you if you were in pain . I would have been a new patient !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dr. Patel is excellent and spearheaded the proper treatment for our daughter recently diagnosed with a rare auto-immune diseases which baffled a team of PICU doctors. He walked in to the PICU room and diagnosed her immediately and correctly. He is an expert in his field and works tirelessly to transition his patients off prednisone, moving to steroid sparing agents to reduce side effects. He responds quickly and with expertise to calm your nerves as a parent and help with your child's given need. He is funny, warm and engaging. I very much appreciate his positive attitude. We are eternally grateful for the care he has provided for our daughter.

Dr. Patel is best Dr I've ever been to. This facility has the best staff the best atmosphere the fastest just all-around best service you could ever get from a doctor. Dr Patel and Dr Shaw genuinely care about their patients no matter who you are.

Dr. Patel is an AMAZING doctor and person. He has taken wonderful care of my son and I. He is very knowledgeable, helpful and listens to your concerns. I’ve been seeing Dr. Patel for RA for several years now. He is always very professional, kind, and takes the time to answer all my questions.

Four years ago,I suffered an acute renal failure (GFR dropped to 16) and was coughing with blood. I was very lucky to have Dr.Patel to take charge of my case. He identified and confirmed that I had PMA Vasculitis: my own auto bodies attacked the kidney, the lung and all over. With immediate and extensive treatment and six months of infusion with right medication, I was cured. His thorough follow-up and great cares keep me in good conditions. My GFR has increased to 39 now. Dr. Patel is an excellent Rheumatologist. He is very knowledgeable, has excellent experience and care for his patient. I have only being seeing Dr. Patel for 2 months. Within the 2 months span of time, he has really help gain control over my diagnosis. When I email him, he response in a timely manner. He is personable and is very knowledgeable about his field of medicine.

Never. Forgets he's dealing with PEOPLE (children) who have chronic illness and live daily in pain.

He is very patient and returns my calls every time. He is funny and my son enjoys being under his care.

I saw Dr. Patel in hopes of having my back diagnosed properly. That is not at all what happened. He was set on one thing and one thing only, and ordered an mri to confirm. Of course the mri showed nothing, and I had told the radiologist that was not the correct test as I had been through this before. He completely offended me when he claimed my pain was psychosomatic, even though my prior mri had shown damage to my spine and I had been diagnosed with fibromyalgia years before. Dr. Patel also treated my son, who has juvenile rheumatoid arthritis, which is the only reason I scheduled an appointment for myself there. Since being seen by Dr. Patel, my 8 year old son has lost 10 pounds (less than a month) and continues to lose weight. Calling has done absolutely no good, even though he told me to call if my son had stomach issues on the medication he was prescribed. Dr. Patel may be a good doctor for some, but he is quick to judge and suggest what is wrong before checking the patient complaint. He saw me and immediately assumed that my pain was all in my head which translated to me that he saw a fat person and assumed I was lazy. Living with Fibromyalgia is challenging and finding a great doctor has been challenging too. Dr. Patel is a great listener and had good experience and advice.
