I had the same Psychiatrist for almost 10 years and when he moved out of state at the beginning of 2023, I was devastated. I was convinced that I would never find a real competent and personable psychiatrist. When I met Dr. McDonough I was completely blown away. He actively listens, addresses concerns and follows up promptly. His patient care is top notch. I would highly recommend!

Very thorough Dr. that listens and understands. He’s the first Dr. I’ve had that actually heard what I was saying about my anxiety, which was completely controlling my life. He put me on the right medication immediately and I finally feel “ normal”. I’m able to enjoy life again and I feel so blessed that I found him.

Very good. Our conversations are efficient and helpful. Sometimes he adjusts medications and now I feel a good balance.

Office is unorganized. My appointments are ALWAYS being rescheduled, hours after being confirmed. The excuse is that the doctor is going to be out of the office, which I'm unsure why the office staff was unaware of when they called to confirm the scheduled appointment hours prior. This always happens a day before my scheduled follow-up. This latest reschedule, my options were either for after pm the following day or for three weeks out. I've already waited 6 weeks for my follow-up. It's like the office doesn't really care about their patients' schedules, and that we're psych patients with mental problems. I always have to rearrange my plans to make last minute changes for the disorganization of this office. I have severe anger issues, so this really tests my patience. My first appointment did not consist of a written eval, instead the doc read questions of different disorders, and asked, "does that sound like you?" At the first follow-up, the doc's computer shut-down, and he did too. The appointment was ended after a couple minutes, and my concerns were not discussed. My concerns have yet to be addressed. I have asked for a referral to a psychologist, but have yet to receive one. I have been a patient for six months. Office is unorganized. I have been treated like a royal in the care of the staff of Doctor McDonough. They are so wonderful with administering the medicines I need, talking about what I could expect to happen next. Dr McDonough is wonderful psychiatrist, I was sent to him due to multiple medical issues not addressed by medical doctors as those doctors felt it was all in my head , he listens and gives constructive criticism to help the patient . I liked his honesty which Was never demeaning . I left his practice due to his office being too far for me to drive but never picked up with any other shrink

Avoid Advanced Behavioral Health, Dr. McDonough. During this time of a National Pandemic, one would think those in the mental health care industry would be extra concerned about their patients. However, I spent 13 days and at least 20 phone calls trying to get my daughter’s medication refilled. The office voicemail basically belittles their patients’ needs by saying, “we realize we are behind on refills and apologize for the inconvenience “ as if those calling were requesting a meal that they had run out of instead of medications that keep some patients from spiraling into major depression or even violent mood swings. When I finally got a call back, I was told the refill would be sent that day, yet it never was. Thankfully, Dr. Shah at Premier Medical, our GP, agreed to send in a rx for her medication and take over monitoring it. I will never again use Advanced Behavioral Health and I will be filing a complaint with the board.

I understand that during a National Pandemic health care professionals are stressed. However, no patient should have to spend 14 days and make at least 10 calls to try to get essential medications refilled. It’s not like this office is overrun with COVID patients - instead they closed their doors and put their phones on a repeating message that said they “realized the mailbox was full and that they were running behind on refill requests, and apologized for the inconvenience!” This is something one says when you run out of something on a menu- not when you can’t keep up with refills of medications that will cause major consequences for patients who miss doses.

I would highly recommend Dr. McDonough. He is a caring and compassionate doctor. He is also extremely intelligent. I saw him for about a year (until I moved) and he helped me a great deal.

Had to wait six or seven weeks for my initial visit. At my second visit, the doc competely shut down when his computer shut down; the visit was ended early, and my follow-up concerns weren't discussed. EVERY time I have an appointment, it is rescheduled by the staff the day before. For example, the follow-up appointment that I made six weeks prior is confirmed the day before, then a couple hours later, I receive another call to reschedule the appointment because the doctor is all of a sudden not going to be in the office. My options for rescheduling are either at a ridiculous time, like, this time, at 6:20 pm the day after my scheduled appointment, or the next available is three weeks later! Again, this happens EVERY TIME! I've been a patient for six months. In Lake county, the options for shrinks are few and far between. I used to see a good one, but now he's only a hospital shrink. Dr. McDonough did not do any written tests to determine what psych problem I have. At the follow-ups, we do not discuss my concerns. My biggest complaint is the scheduling, especially because I have anger issues. Plus, I've asked for referrals to psychologists, which I've yet to receive.

I am called to confirm my appointment, then within hours, I'm called again to inform me the doc won't be in the next day (when my appointment is scheduled, after waiting six weeks) and my appointment is rescheduled for an inconvenient time. This time it's at 6:20 pm. The next option was three weeks away. They have complete disregard for how important medication management is for us patients, especially when we have mental disorders. One time, the doctor's computer shut down during our appointment, and he completely shut down too; he forgot how to be a doctor and run an appointment. I ask for referrals to psychologists, and have yet to get any. The thing is, I have yet to find ANY shrinks in Lake county that are actually decent.

He would be better if he could even pretend to remember his patients, instead of reading the chart as he asks questions and cutting off their answers with his next question.

The best Psychiatrist I have had the absolute trust in and always willing to listen. He has been a positive motivating and knowledgeable professional as well as a pleasant kind man who has helped me immensely .

I really like Dr. McDonough. I have been seeing him for a year now and would highly recommend him. He has a way of connecting with me that makes me feel he truly cares about my mental health.

He is a very thorough doctor who listens and explains, things to patients.

TERRIBLE office!!! Dr. McDonough has the personality of Jabba the Hut, has NO interest in your care, does not "deal" with prescriptions, however I've been waiting 5 weeks for my prescription, incompetent and uncaring office staff keeps sending to wrong insurance....DO NOT SEE THIS OFFICE

Dr McDonough is a very attentive doctor, that shows his many years of experience and i felt comfortable in our visits. The staff is very friendly and professional, great office!

Arrogant, rude, condescending, speaks over you & you get a whole 15 minutes with him. You are totally rushed with no opportunity to explain changes in your condition or circumstances. I suffer from PTSD, acute anxiety, panic attacks, constant fear and insomnia. To sleep I took Seroquel which he had prescribed but had taken me off of. It was the only way I could sleep. He did not like that, threw away two bottles of my scripts in a very angry way and dismissed me. I would never recommend this Dr.

Very professional. Has been a great help to me. Could spend more time with me.
