Dr. Jennifer B Humberson

I consulted with Dr. Humberson about my genetic condition, hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, after years and years of misdiagnoses and after a DX by an EDS-knowledgeable rheumatologist. She barely read the detailed symptoms/severity/frequency documentation that finally led to my DX, and she spent less than 5 minutes with me before dismissing me as "not bendy enough and probably just having fibromyalgia." She was completely unaware that older people with EDS may have hypermobile joints but can't always move like they used to, after a lifetime of stiff muscles trying to hold us together. Worse, she didn't CARE at all. The residents in training spent more time with me. My DX was reconfirmed shortly afterward by a doctor who actually gets EDS and has since been reconfirmed by every medical practitioner who deals with my extremely mobile joints. Dr. Humberson exemplifies the incredible arrogance of many UVa docs, but represents some of the worst of it by not even giving you her time after you spend weeks waiting to see her. I warned another EDSer about her but she went anyway, and was also dismissed. Her DX was later confirmed by an internationally renowned neurosurgeon who treats the neurological issues brought on by EDS. STAY AWAY from this grossly inept, irresponsible and clueless doctor.

Dr. Humberson took her time, seemed genuinely concerned and determined to find answers.
