First off, good luck getting ahold of the office but also Dr. Lavery was not only rude to me but also is very rude to his own employees. I could hear him through the door crudely bossing his people around and being very short with them. And he was rude to one employee who was typing out a form for him in front of me. So naturally he was rude and short with me as well as he seemed to be more interested in getting through his list of other patients and rushed in and out of my appointment with him. Along with that he had me watch a series of very poorly made videos about various medication methods for my supposed condition rather than just talking to me about the options and what he would prescribe to me. I could not even get to the doctor. Maybe he is amazing but if you cannot get appointment what good is that. I called multiple times to schedule an appointment. I received call from the office stuff that I need referral even though my insurance does not require it. I called my physician and ask for one. They called me back with answer that doctor goes through all referrals and accepts patients or not. Base on these referrals. So, I asked if I’m actually accepted they say they don’t know it is doctor decision and they see I don’t have all documentation. So, when I asked what documents they gave me whole list including blood work. So, I told them I ask my primary physician for referral as I was ask by them and that is between the doctors what they send. They told me doctor picks and choose patients based on these referrals and even if you accepted he is so booked that for new patients is 4 months wait. So, my answer after one week of trying to to get answer if they accept new patients or not was NO that is not acceptable. Dr. Lavery and his staff is amazing been going here for 3 yrs. He is one of the best autoimmune disease doctor's I have had on my journey and I have been to quite a bit across the country to know the difference. He actually cares about his patients and listens to your concerns. He is fast to act on your behalf and meticulous.

5 stars for Dr. Lavery and staff. I did need a referral from my primary care doctor in order to get into the door due to their backlog and she had ordered a lot of labs to determine I truly needed to see a rheumatologist. Otherwise I fear I may still be waiting for that initial appointment. Dr. Lavery is fast in the room which can make you feel like he's not paying attention but he certainly is. Once he's looked things over he always asks what I would like to get out of the appointment. This is so important as sometimes I just want answers to what is going on and other times I'm simply in a lot of pain or discomfort. And before he leaves the room he always asks if there was anything else or anything missed and if he answered all of my questions. He can be as fast as he needs to be so long as he continues to ask those questions. This office really shines in their attention to the patient portal. 95% of the time I don't need to schedule another appointment as I can send a message in the portal and Dr. Lavery or a staff member typically responds within minutes. Most of my communication with this office is through the portal and with the number of other doctors and appointments I have to deal with, this is what prompted me to leave this review. 5 stars for Dr. Lavery and staff. This place is horrible. When I called to schedule an appointment they didn't want to help. They told me they need a referral to get the appointment so I had the referral done and then called them to schedule a appointment and now they tell me they have no availability. Then the representative hung up on me after voicing my frustration. I would not go to this place even if they had an available appointment. Wonderful doctor and Staff. Always accommodating, thoughtful and caring. He listens to your every medical concerns and conditions. He will do everything in his power to help you.

Quirky, but amazingly smart! And he KNOWS his stuff! Great rheumatologist and his staff is fabulous, as well!! Love 'em! My new requirements for insurance is that I can still see Dr Lavery????

Zero communication-I have been trying to get an appointment from 2-3 weeks now. They told me to get a PCP referral, got the same day and they never called back. Very poor follow up communication. even after 5 days of referral exchange, they told me they will call, still in vain. Again I called back for the final time, out of frustration and the operator told me that they have stopped taking new patients. How on earth I am suppose to know!!!!!! The lack of care towards their patients is shameful. The never bother to answer their phones and their online hold system is broken. Rather than fix it, they just have their message say that it's broken and allow you to suffer dropped calls, disconnections, messages that following their directions to press 2 yet the system says pressing 2 is not an option, etc. Once you finally get through their system drops your call so while you are thrilled at getting a human, that human says "hello, hello" then hangs up on you. My mother loves Lavery and as far as the care she receives, I have 0 complaint. However, his operation staff, nurse...etc. horrible. They call and expect you to drop everything and take care of lab tests THEY forgot to ask for in a timely manner. NOW it is on us to take care of it so my mom can get her meds. Then when we arrive at the lab they said they sent it to, they are closed. This is just 1 of many issues I have with his staff. Dr. Lavery may not have the southern charm we're used to here, but he's very knowledgeable and has a modern technique about his diagnostics and treatment. He's covered more ground in one office visit than my previous rheumatologist covered in a YEAR. I highly recommend him and his staff.

Dr.Lavery is one of the best doctors I have known for his sincere compassionate care about his patients. I’ve seen him for about 6 years and credit him for saving my life in an extremely serious medical crisis a few years ago. He called me personally to inform me of a test result that indicated a very serious issue and that he was admitting me to the hospital for further tests and treatment to avert a worst situation.. If not for his dedication and thoroughness in seeing to my further testing and treatment at the hospital and post crisis it may have led to a worst outcome. Dr Lavery is very direct and business like. He spared no tests to find out why I hurt, had a very low energy level and the extent of my arthritis. Today, I have very few days that my energy level isn't high and I stay very active. I highly recommend Dr. Lavery. He will find out what your medical needs are.

I finally received a diagnosis from Dr. Lavery this year, and he has been great. Not one to mince words, he will get straight to the point and ask how he can "help you feel better today." I very much appreciate this. If you need to talk things out for a good while, he may not be the doctor for you. But, he has not ONCE mentioned my weight (which I gained AFTER all of my symptoms began. I was skinny until my late 30s, at onset.) I have been going to Dr. Lavery for years now. I know that he may come off rushed or matter of fact. However, this is the best rheumatologist or doctor that has provided care for any extended period of time. He truly does want to help you be as functioning and okay to deal with at least the small day to day things. He is always responsive to messages and has helped me get the right diagnosis and care. I truly dread the day when I can no longer see him when he retires.

I want to be perfectly honest: At first, I felt his mannerisms sometimes came off as mildly rude. However, I realzied that he genuinely cares about the wellbeing of each patient much more than most doctors you will ever meet. I believe this because Dr. Lavery is extremely through and is very much the opposite of a lazy doctor. If there is and undiagnosed yet diagnosable (rheumatological) condition causing you pain, I trust he would be able to figure it out.

If you live in the Dallas Metroplex there is no better Rheumatologist! He has been mine for years and I am so very blessed! His staff are all caring and work beautifully as a team. I trust him completely!

This man literally saved my life. After years of going to doctor after doctor and test upon test, and then being accused of "doctor shopping" for drugs Dr. Lavery diagnosed me in 5 minutes. Within days I felt better than I had in 8 years.

He is amazing! My doctor for years but moved to Arkansas. He's the best doctor and only wish I could live close enough to go to him. The absolute best!

After seeing Dr. Lavery for several yrs, I decided to change doctors. He really has not done anything that has helped my condition or pain level. He is so busy adding to his computer that I have never had a face to face conversation with him. He is not good at answering questions. He will leave the room saying he will be back, but does not return. Sometimes his assistant acts like she's not sure what to do. When a referral is sent for a specific test, adequate instructions are not given.

What can be said about his practice that hasn't been said about the Cincinnati zoo? Horrible, not fun and I leave there feeling worse than Harambe about my experience.

I have been working with Dr. Lavery and his incredible office assistants and receptionists since September of this year (2016). In less than a month, I have has 15+ xrays, a lumbar MRI, 3 different blood labs drawn, and a referral to a pain management physician. While scheduling and actual "office" visit is difficult, their team keeps you updated and everything continues to progress via their online portal. My 86 year-old mother sees Dr. Lavery for a recent onset of rheumatoid arthritis. Dr. Lavery and his staff have always been extremely courteous, professional and efficient. The wait time to be seen has been 30 minutes or less, calls and/or emails are returned/responded to the same day, and test results are communicated via the patient portal in an equally timely manner. He takes the overall health of the patient into consideration with his treatment and discusses the pros and cons of available options. Dr. Lavery came highly recommended from the local physicians in Sherman, and he has held true to their esteem. Dr. Lavery is a wonderful individual. He really seems to care about his patients and their well-being. He is patient, professional and kind. During appointments he focuses on me - he spends asking questions and understanding the patient with the disease - not just the disease. His support team are very accommodating and reassuring too! I like that he does not try to push you into a medication but wants to inform you and then have you research it for the best decision for the patient.

I have already recommended and urged a few people to head Dr. Lavery's way! In less than a month, I have had 3 blood draws for testing, 15+ xrays, and a lumbar MRI. In addition, they already communicated in getting me set up with a pain management doctor and physical therapy. Dr. Lavery is very pragmatic and thorough, and all of his assistants are genuine, kind, and intelligent. Scheduling an actual "office appointment" is difficult, but they do not hesitate to communicate and direct via phone

I have seen Dr. Lavery for the past four years. He is an excellent, thorough, caring doctor. Staff is good too.

Prior to moving to TX, I was on 6-7 different meds a day and had no specific diagnosis. I came to Dr. Lavery, and he ran several blood tests on me and was able to give me a definite diagnosis. I love the fact that he is not scared to run tests to get to the bottom of my illness. His staff is wonderful, and addresses any and all concerns. I love the fact that his appointments run on time.

I think he is very intelligent and great at diagnosing. He cares about his patients and wants to do want ever he can to help you feel better. He wants to know how you are doing. He remembers little things about you, so you know you aren't just another patient, and asks questions. He gives notes to patients about what you have discussed during the appointment. Great help!! No other doctor does this. He always asks , what can I do for you, or something similar. He really cares. Love him!!

That service have been seeing for over ten years

I was fairly young, at the time, to be suffering from arthritis pain (or so I was told by other doctors), and other doctors did not believe that I could have it. When bloodwork came back negative, Dr. Lavery did not give up and went another couple of steps to verify that I did, indeed have arthritis. No other doctor was willing to go past a blood test. I've never had a doctor work FOR AND with me. When I was pregnant, he found natural remedies to assist in a flare up. I'm so impressed....he and his office staff are amazing. I tell EVERYONE about him...I truly feel blessed to have him as a doctor. Dr. Lavery is a brilliant Doctor. He cares about his patients, he's very got an incredible memory, knows more about all medical issues than anyone I've ever met. It is worth the wait it takes to get in to see him. He has so many office procedures you won't find any where else. You get notes about your visit, blood work letter sent before visit, you drop by office and get blood drawn, written results in the mail, and then you have the results so you can ask ?'s when you have your appointment.
