Dr. Smith was recommended to me by several patients. He was friendly . attentive and did not seem rushed at all. Because I have experienced very painful injections in my foot, I was reluctant to have one in my knee. After telling him of my experiences, he reassured me that this would be NOTHING like those. Well, he was right. It was pain free! Thanks Dr. Smith!

Visited Dr. Smith on 04/04/2022 for my final examination of my broken clavicle. After reviewing x-rays and ROM examination, Dr. Smith determined that the clavicle has sufficiently healed and will not require surgery. As usual, he and his staff saw me in a timely manner and were caring and professional. I would highly recommend Dr. Smith and Ortho Va. at St. Mary's location.

I been seeing Dr Smith for quite some time. Being a college football official I have to be very active and mobile. Under Dr Smith’s care he has been able to keep me active and on the field for much longer than I even thought possible. Dr Smith has, what I believe to be an excellent bedside manner. Always explains things so I can understand. His PA, Sue is also excellent. Always listens and has a viable suggestion. I have recommended many friends and will continue. I thank Dr Smith and Sue for their care and judgment now for over 20 years.

I once again received a steroid injection in my left knee. Dr. Smith takes the time to ask about the knee if it is worse, did the last injection work and how long did it take. He reminded me I can have an injection every three months. I appreciate Dr. Smith’s candor, listening approach and gentle administration. I have recommended him to friends and will do so in the future.

Dr. Smith is treating me with osteoarthritis of both knees. We have been using injections on both knees. I feel that has treatment is helping with my discomfort. One day my only option for treatment will be a knee replacement. If and when that day comes, I know that I will be in good hands. Dr. Smith's team is amazing and I am happy to call them my team too.

I had a minimal wait both, in the waiting room and in the exam room. I had a minor procedure and scheduled a surgery. Both Sue and Dr. Smith were professional and courteous. Both procedures were well explained.

Dr. Smith is a no nonsense orthopaedic practitioner with a great bedside manner. For my current injury it took just a few weeks to diagnose the problem and select a remedy. However, I have seen Dr. Smith for 15 years and other injuries and he is one of the best: highly skilled yet personable.

A wonderful surgeon. I’ve had two shoulder replacements with Dr Smith and I’m doing great. Very kind, caring and personable. He listens to me. I will definitely have him do my knees.

I have seen Dr Smith for a few years due to a shoulder injury. He is very nice, reviews what is happening with my current pain and any changes. He is clear with possible outcomes of our treatment plan and the pros and cons that may affect my decision making . His Dr notes are easy to access and do reflect our conversations. His office staff are always nice and friendly. The only negative is I know he will be late by at least a half hour or more as he is booked solid all day. Bring a book as you will be there an hour to an hour and a half at minimum.

Dr. Smith has simply been amazing. While one physician recommended surgery, Dr. Smith took an entirely different approach which has turned out to be 100% affective. He takes extra time with his patients to make sure that they understand the medical as well as the long-term impacts of any actions.

I went to Dr. Smith on the recommendation of my son and my wife both of whom had received treatment from him. Two tendons in my right shoulder had ruptured in a fall and Dr. Smith repaired the shoulder without problems. I am very satisfied with the care and treatment.

I feel very confident in saying Dr Smith is a very caring, knowledgeable and helpful physician. He puts his patient at ease, explains things thoroughly without rushing patient and seems to care about his patient.

Afraid there is not enough space here to properly rate Dr. Smith. I have been seeing him for years for everything from joint injections to TKR. Very caring and a good diagnostician.

I first saw Dr. Smith for severe shoulder pain. He was very conservative in his approach, but counseled me following physical therapy and injections about treatment options and possible outcomes. I felt like he was appropriately engaged in presenting options for me to consider and was a partner in the process. After a couple of months of pain, I scheduled surgery to deal with bone spurs and some long-standing over-use problems. Although I am still recovering from the surgery, I think that Dr. Smith was professional, attentive, informed and considerate in offering advice and treatment. I thought that his office staff was terrific. I never experienced prolonged wait times.

Great doctor. Waiting room time is on the long side, but that does not take away from the doctor.

Absolutely NOT recommend for ANY surgical procedure! He does NOT manage recovery expectations and does not have the courtesy of meeting with patients for the follow up exam! Even after a EMG test by a neurological colleague in the same practice pointed to my elbow cubital tunnel syndrome as the source of my ring and pinky finger numbness, his 15 minute Ulnar Nerve Release procedure had NO effect. It also left me with numbness in my elbow that was not there pre-op! His excuse? Must be your cervical spine problems!! Really!?!? Did he not read the EMG report? This surgeon is NOT to be trusted with your body. I know he will never touch mine again nor will I ever return to ANY OrthoVirginia doctor again. Liars all. By the way...his recovery estimate for my procedure was 2 weeks. In my mind, recovery means EVERYTHING is back to normal, no pain, no numbness, everything works. It's been 2 months and I'm no better than before the procedure.
