Dr. Merz is very informative and thorough. He answered all our questions. Dr. Merz explained all the alternatives.

Dr. Merz as always answers all my questions, addresses my concerns and offers suggestions and advice. I recently completed total knee reconstruction. My concern was the much more than usual pains in my back. He explained the need to retrain my body because it was accustom to my limp and posture prior to knee reconstruction. He explained the timeline and gave me suggestions on how to alleviate this pain.

Dr Merz is extremely knowledgeable, provides information, listens to questions, and responds in a manner easily understandable. Dr Merz is kind and patient and I recommend him 100%

Dr. Merz explained everything about my condition, treatment options, and follow up. He did not push any treatments and I feel like he understood my pain. I have had wonderful care at the Mayfield group for 10 years for different back/neck problems.

The interaction between Dr. Merz was very good. He listened to everything I had to say and I listened to him. He spoke to me in a language I could understand.

Dr. Merz genuinely cares about the patient and wants to offer options. He however is very realistic about what outcome to expect and the risks. He is very adamant about physical therapy being the core of treatment and that pain management is done to make physical therapy goals easier to achieve. I feel comfortable recommending him. I would like him to spend more time reviewing the files and considering additional diagnostics as I don't feel they are certain about the cause of my pain. I will suggest this on next visit.

As always we walked thru the issues, talked ability what to do next and those things we decided were implemented immediately. Dr. Merz is just that good!

I would recommend highly to anyone that wants a excellent doctor that can talk in terms that a lay person can understand. He takes his time and picks the best way to treat your condition. He cares about you as a person. He is a breath of fresh air to the medical profession.

Dr. Merz was great! Took time to speak with me about my options, I did not feel rushed. Advised me to take control of my pain through proactive things like stretching and core work. He left the door open to come back if needed, great guy!

My visit with Dr. Merz was very confident and explained all my options to me. He actually told me I did not need surgery, and that my condition was due to age and weak core muscles. He set me up with Physical Therapy to build up my muscles around my spine and advised a shot for pain, but that was my decision. I really like Dr. Merz as he was very friendly, knowledgeable and seemed truly concerned about me.

Dr Merz meet with me regarding my back pain today. He shared with me the signifigance between pain management as well as ways I can reduce pain on my own. Exercise, Chiropractic & Massage stretching and just paying attention to what I can do to reduce damage to my back. Very good review of what I try to stay focused on doing.

Dr. Merz took the time to fully explain the recommended treatment plan and how the multiple treatments work together to both build strength and relieve pain. I really appreciated this information to help me to fully understand the importance of each treatment.

Dr. Merz is very knowledgeable of his practice; he offered a comprehensive explanation of treatment plan, and gave time to patient not normally expected.

My initial visit with Dr. Merz. His bedside manner was atrocious. He asked me a few questions about my history and past treatment and then proceeded to lecture me and talk down to me for 15 minutes. He said “I’m not going to insult your intelligence, “ and then proceeded to do just that. He did not ask me if I was currently in pain, if I had any knowledge of my condition, or what my goals for care were. I’ve been a critical care nurse for nearly as long as he’s been a position, and I have some knowledge of anatomy and physiology. He did not take any time to get to know me at all. I’m glad I did not tell him that I was a nurse, because when he called his medical assistant a nurse I could clearly tell that he has no respect for the profession. I can tell he really likes the sound of his own voice. He went into the room next to me and I could hear him repeating the same thing he did to me. I have not decided if I will be returning to this practice but I will certainly see him.

At my visit with Dr Merz, he was very polite and explained everything very well...He explained why and what he suggested I do for a treatment...I was expected to have to have an injection but I need physical therpy to stregenth my back and after doing that if I feel I need more we will discuss injection...I understood more about what was going on with my back...

I appreciated the fact that Dr. Merz spent time discussing other options before surgery. He is approachable and listens to what your concerns are.

I have type 3 EDS and Dr merz told me EDS does not cause pain!!! I cried when I left! I will never go back. He barely let me get a word in . I had a few questions and he answered the first one then kept talking and was done. I felt he does not understand EDS because it causes pain in your WHOLE ENTIRE BODY! not just the neck or spine! My arthritis is caused by EDS! Geez be a little more personable and understand your patients diagnosis!

A bit surprised and disappointed that he didn't even look at the area of my neck and back that were bothering me badly. I'm not sure what I paid for with that appointment other than for him to write a prescription for an x-ray and physical therapy.

Entered the room professional and shook hand. Sat and talked with what his plans were to help me. The only thing I wish would have been different would be for me to ask more questions and more time to talk with him vs him do most of tallking.

I highly recommend Dr. Merz. Dr. Merz exceeded my expectations. He was attentive to me, patiently listening to me describe my symptoms and thoroughly explaining (1) the treatment I am to be provided and (2) why that treatment is the treatment of choice for my condition. He is articulate. I was able to understand what is to be done. I did not get lost in his explanation because he did not use medical jargon. Also, I was pleasantly surprised by the amount of time he spent with me.

Second specialist I have seen. Dr Merz was very helpful explaining my condition vs lecturing me as the prior specialist M.D. I saw. Took the time to explain and was very open for my questions. Huge difference from the first specialist I saw who took little time with me . Dr Merz looked at my long term situaton vs just recommending pain mgt. I'd recommend him. Mayfield offices are very impressive.

Dr. Merz explained my condition, in detail, along with all the possible treatments with pros/cons. He's the first doctor that I've seen, for my condition, that took any time to properly explain the future. Highly recommended!

Dr.Merz has been the first doctor I have seen in a long time who actually explained my disease process and what I can do to manage degenerative back disease. He even stopped and asked me if I had any more questions for him! His medical assistant, Aja T, was the friendliest, calm and kind MA I have encountered in a long time. The office staff made me feel calm and relaxed.
