Went as smoothly as you can expect I guess lol

Wonderful, changed my life.

I had a consultation with Dr. Hammen and thank goodness did not go through with surgery with him. The office was staff were dishonest and overcharged me for a simple consultation. I would advise everyone to AVOID this doctor and office. There are better surgeons that are honest, don't waste your time and money with him.

It has been five years since my son died as a direct result of neglect. He had a birth defect that left him very vulnerable to colon cancer, so he couldn't get insurance. When he lived in New York, he had paid for his annual colonoscopies in monthly installments, but when he moved to Savannah, he discovered the practice didn't bill. He needed $2,300 up front. He went two years without a colonoscopy and then he got sick. Still, Dr. Hammen didn't do a colonoscopy for several weeks, and when he finally did agree to do it, he never told my son he couldn't finish the procedure because HIS COLON WAS BLOCKED, a life-threatening condition. Three weeks later, Mike was admitted to the hospital so sick that it took five days just to stabilize him for surgery. By then his cancer was stage 3. He was given chemo and radiation, with the bill being paid by charity. But seven months after surgery, he got sick again, The oncology group took a wait-and-see attitude until Mike weighed just 104 pounds. Dr. Hammen did the surgery to relieve the small intestine blockage. The pathology report showed "a few viable cells," and Dr. Hammen gave up. In fact, when Mike developed a serious infection in his incision, Dr. Hammen told him he was healing slowly because he was so malnourished going into surgery. Several days after that appointment, Mike had a consultation with a doctor at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, NC. That doctor diagnosed and treated the infection and gave us two more years with my precious son. Had my son gotten the colonoscopies he needed, he would still be with us. Dr. Hammen either didn't care a bit about my son because he couldn't pay or he was incompetent. Either way, I would never send anyone to him for any reason. By the way, I have the medical records to back all this up, and even with that, I never received an apology for the way my son was treated.
