Ronald Dean Butler MD has been my oncologist since I was diagnosed with bilateral breast cancer 18 months ago. Despite my having requested a female oncologist in Charlotte I was given an appointment with a male oncologist in Monroe NC. I live in Monroe but I prefer city hospitals and I was simply too tired and stressed to request a change of oncologists. I have been more than pleased with Dr. Butler and members of his staff.He is kind and has gone beyond standard expectations more than once. What you are probably thinking is that kindness does not necessarily mean he's a good oncologist. I strongly agree. But I did my research and Dr. Butler is considered to be a skilled, knowledgeable oncologist. I've had only 1 issue with his office. It was related to a prescription and it was based on confusing communications between myself and the office. So, will I continue to prefer city hospitals? Yes, I will. But in this case a male oncologist in a suburban setting worked out well for me. I feel fortunate to have Dr. Butler as my MD. I have been coming to Dr Butler for years...my mistake was coming to him for this amount of time never getting any questions answered and things I was diagnosed with he never followed up on and when I would ask him to please go over test results never would sit down to answer questions...he would literally come in for maybe 1 minute and back out he would dodge your questions. I finally got tired and left please do not make the mistake of coming to him he cares about the money and not your health. I would have test run and he would not follow up with me I would call the office with questions and ask if he could call me never did. My adult son had been seeing this Doctor for over a yr diagnosed with a blood disorder to find out during this time he told him he had stage 4 mestatic cancer. Next mistake my son made was believing this guy cared or would help him. Can't ask questions or he changes the subject. Doesn't return phone calls prior to treatments. After treatments he never put in for a scan, even after my son's dad asked for one. What he does is calls Hospice & never to be heard from again. So, if u or a love one are in need for a caring, knowledgeable, professional Oncologist that will be there for u thru the entire process, look elsewhere. Hopefully, will help someone else not make the same mistake. Oh, yes! He is very knowledgeable about my cancer and so caring. He takes a lot of time to explain every detail and answer each question we have.

Clearly does not like to talk to his patients. Gets up and walks out of the room if you ask him a question.

Dr. Butler came in the room, introduced himself to my daughter and then introduced his assistant and said he’ll take care of you then Dr. Dean walked out never to be seen again!! Are you kidding me?!?! Didn’t even ask my daughter if she had any questions!!! Rude!!!!!

Dr. Butler gave me so much clear information within the time constraints of 1 appointment and by clear I do not mean watered down or incomplete. It's more than evident that he is current and capable when it comes to cancer diagnosis, treatment and care. I've had only 1 appointment with him and would say that besides sharing info carefully and thoroughly I get the impression that he is kind. While I'm not looking for a new best friend when I meet a new MD, kindness counts, especially as I confront a breast cancer diagnosis. I was not comfortable with the Monroe waiting room or its staff and considered leaving before I saw Dr. Butler. I'm so glad I stayed and met with him.

Cannot even contact the office. On hold over an hour total. Even Atrium Health couldn’t get an answer!

When my cancer was found it was already in Stage IV. Dr Butler was dilligent in attacking my cancer and always has shown concern and care for my well being. I know without a doubt that I would not be alive had it not been for his treatment and care. I have been under his care since 2013.
