Great surgeon who operated on me. He explained the procedure to myself and my family.

Dr. birdwell did my laparoscopic cholecystectomy. He has an amazing bedside manner. He was very forgiving with my weird sense of humor in my nervousness before surgery. He did an excellent job of explaining things to me and instilling me with confidence before the procedure. He left me feeling both informed and supported. I would highly recommend him for any surgical needs that he is capable of performing. He has a very genuine demeanor and kind spirit towards his patients. Should I ever need another surgery in his wheelhouse I will be consulting with Dr. Birdwell.

Dr. Birdwell has exceptional skills with medical care, patient education, and empathy when care plans are discussed. He provides quality care through the process from your initial visit to after surgery care. I would highly recommend this provider for all of my closest friends and family. Hands down he is one of the best doctors I’ve met.

One evening I ended up having appendicitis and Dr Birdwell was the attending surgeon at Richardson Methodist. He was very caring and thorough during our hospital chats, and my subsequent follow up appointment at his clinic. The visit was efficient (in and out in 30 min), the staff were all polite and professional, and the suites themselves were very clean and .. beautiful? I wouldn't hesitate to reach out to Dr Birdwell for other procedures.

The surgery scheduler, Jana, is amazing. She has been in constant communication with me regarding my surgery. She responds to my questions promptly. Dr. Birdwell is a wonderful doctor. So caring and sympathic . He diagnosed my condition and explained everything so well, I knew exactly what was wrong. Then he explained his plan to correct it. As it turned out it became a bigger issue by some other issue popping up, but not his fault. Then he was concerned enough to get a specialist to take over. I really enjoyed working with Dr. Birdwell. I felt like he actually cared about me as a person, and that he cared about the service he was providing me. He answered all my questions and never made me feel dumb for asking. I feel like he did a great job on educating me about my procedures and my options. He also does a great job in making sure you have realistic expectations for your outcome. He has you stay over night so that he can monitor you and comes to personally check in on you the next day. And I didn’t feel like he was trying to get in there see me and get out, unlike the doc who did one of the procedures I had to get done before my sleeve. Also his staff in Plano is amazing. I was admitted to the hospital at 3 A.M. After a stay in the E.R Where I found out I was going to have to have my gallbladder removed. The hospital was wonderful but I was given very little information. Dr Birdwell sat with me, held my hand, answered every question I had for him and never once acted like I was bothering him. When He checked on me the following day he listened to me and everything I said, treated my pain and didn't force me to go home before I felt I was able to care for myself. This man is wonderful. Dr Birdwell is such a likable guy; not just a doctor but a real person who cares about you individually. He is prompt on coming into seeing you once you are placed in a clinic room by his great team of staff. He listens to your questions and answers you much like you are his friend; not doctor to patient. I had my gall bladder removed on New Years Eve to meet my insurance deductible and out of pocket. Dr Birdwell and the scheduler were very accommodating so I could get this done in the same year. The office is very elegant and everyone of the team reflects positive on Dr. Birdwell. He surrounds himself with greatness in his team. People are very happy. I am happy as a patient. He also operated on my husband back in 2005 and we had the same experience then too.

I saw Dr Birdwell in 2013 for removal of my gallbladder. CT scans showed there was probable cancer. I was very anxious to have it removed. Dr Birdwell and his staff seemed very kind and Dr Birdwell informed me he was NOT busy and could perform surgery the following day. I was beyond thankful to have it done so soon as gallbladder cancer can spread rather quickly and I was very sad anticipating anything bad happening with the holidays approaching. The next day I and my husband (as well as 4 of my 9 children) did as I was instructed. I arrived at the surgery center in Garland at 1pm. Dr Birdwell arrived at almost 4pm just before the center closed (nurses informed us he was in Lewisville playing golf). Needless to say, my experience was like a train wreck and changed mine and my families lives forever. Thankfully, Dr Goldstein and the liver transplant team at Baylor repaired my body. My “simple, routine laparoscopic day surgery with a 3 day downtime” turned into a SEVERE bile duct and liver injury with a month long hospital stay, 10 inch scar across my abdomen, thanksgiving and Christmas were shattered, my body completely in ruins, my children thinking I was dying, not able to obtain life insurance, pain killers, monthly blood work, I could go on and on how this has altered our lives. All because...a game of golf was more important than my life. At least that’s the way it felt to us. Everyone asks about malpractice. Unless you die or are mamed, malpractice suits do not exist. Sadly, I had to put my energy, days, months, and years to attempting to recuperate instead of obtaining justice for myself and my family (which was kind of important with the size of my family and can not obtain life insurance any longer). Also, since the new laws in Texas came about for malpractice, it is not a lucrative business for attorneys. We are all human, we all have faults and make mistakes. However, when it comes to healthcare there is no room for mistakes. People die or their lives are forever changed. Please do your homework when you choose to let someone provide medical care for you. Very thankful for Dr. Birdwell! My husband had to have surgery on Tuesday I was so nervous but when he showed up for it, my anxiety immediately went away. His comforting first impression went a long way! Oh and his bedside manner was incredible. I had prayed long before my husband had surgery that we would be blessed with a surgeon who could truly take care of my husbands issues, and here comes Dr. Birdwell. Dr. BIRDWELL is respectful to his patients, empathetic and an excellent surgeon. The nurses in OR also told me he should wear a cape- he is THAT good- handling any problems that may arise in addition to his exceptional skills. I am at day 2 following a 5" ventral hernia repaired at Baylor Garland.

If you need a surgical consultation, go see Dr. Birdwell! He is an excellent surgeon, knowledgeable, very friendly and still professional, and speaks to you in terms you can understand. He makes you feel like he's glad you came in. His staff is beyond friendly and helpful too. A very positive experience.

Dr. Birdwell is the finest Dr. I've met. His genuine heart for his patient's best interest was apparent from my first apt. His personable, humble, demeanor eased my anxiety immediately. He was relaxed, patient, approachable & very present--I knew that he was really listening, heard me & took his time explaining everything. I never left feeling rushed, dismissed or with questions I wished I could've asked (like I have with so many others.) I felt like my "big deal" was very much a big deal to him too. I watched him interact with other patients & saw how sincerely he cared for each uniquely & genuinely. As fabulous as Dr. Birdwell is, his staff is incomparable! Make absolutely no mistake, Dr. Birdwell is the finest specialist in Dallas...by far!!!. How many time you go to a doctor visit wait for an hour or more in the room and spend about 2 minutes with the doctor without getting a clear answer to your health issues and questions. Not with Dr. Birdwell. The office is very well organized with friendly associates. My appointment was at 10 AM and the doctor walked in at exactly 10 AM! The doctor spent the time and explained to me what is going on and how to treat my issues. Two years ago Dr. Birdwell performed a day surgery for my hernia and all went absolutely brilliant. By the end of that day I was back to normal. If you need a surgery don't hesitate to consult with Dr. Birdwell. We are very lucky to have such a world class surgery doctor in our area.
