Dr. Stephen R Soffer

Dr Soffer replaced my left knee. He did an excellent job. My only complaint is that when I walk my knee makes clacking sounds to the point that it's very noticeable when walking in silence like down a hallway. Sometimes it's embarrassing and I have to explain. Dr. Soffer said it will eventually go away but I'm 5 years out and it's still clacking away

The office was fine. The staff was friendly. The doctor was informative and helpful I will be seeing him again. But when checking out they don’t give you any kind of paperwork as to what had been discussed or the type of treatment received which I find extremely odd. I did call because I thought it must have been forgotten but was told that they don’t have that capability of electronic read outs so there is no kind of reference or way to keep track of what’s going on through the treatment. The receptionist was very nice and offered to look up the information about any questions I have. I didn’t ask any because I would have liked the entire visit laid out for me to know what we had talked about in the office. In this day and age where every doctor I go to has several ways to see your history paperwork or on an app. I just think that’s not very patient friendly. Does make any sense to me..

I had my left shoulder done in 2017 & my right shoulder done in 2021. Both were rotator cuff tears. My shoulders are good as new . Would strongly recommend Dr Soffer to do surgery. He is excellent!

Dr Soffer played a big part in getting me back to full recovery. My injury by no means was an ordinary one - complete knee dislocation, bruised bone, ACL, LCL, PCL tear, pereneal nerve damage ..... Dr Soffer performed a knee reconstructing and short of a miracle, am running, working out, hiking etc. Thank you Dr. Soffer

After initial visit and x-ray to determen the severity of my shoulder problem Dr. Soffer and i had a consoltation on what was the best way to handle my problem. We decided a complete shoulder replacement was necessary. Before , during and after my surgery everyone involved on Dr. Soffers team was very corteous, professional and always there for you in a friendly manner. I am very pleased with the outcome of my surgery and the aftercare i recieved. I would without hesitation recomend Dr. Soffer to anyone needing orthopedic care at this time.As for me i am ready to get back to my life without any further shoulder pain!

Dr. Soffer is the best orthopedic surgeon in the Reading area. He fixed my broken arm and wrist with almost no pain, and saved my motion. My care was so exceptional from the emergency appointment and scheduled surgery to the follow up care. Berkshire Orthopedics is the only place my family and I will go, if needed. If I have to experience the pain of a broken bone, I will definitely chose Dr. Soffer to help me through it.

Had arthroscopic surgery on my left knee with Dr. Soffer. Everything went well and I was back at work in 2 weeks. Highly recommend.

I have been treated for knee pain and injury by Dr. Soffer on two separate occasions over 12 years apart - each time with very good results following arthroscopic surgery for meniscus tears. Before recommending surgery, Dr. Soffer performed a thorough evaluation and provided a good explanation of the condition and/or injury to my knee. He provided a range of treatment options with the relative pros and cons of each, and followed a logical progression of evaluation and treatment leading up to a successful surgical outcome. Post-surgical follow-up and recommendations were equally well managed. I believe he is a very experienced and proficient surgeon, but balances surgical recommendations with other forms of treatment in the best interest of his patients. I was also favorably impressed with the professional competency and courtesy of his staff.

There is nothing but great things to say about Dr. Soffer. Been dealing with chondromalacia patella for over a year and once I was seen by him, he knew exactly what to do. Did surgery and had a great outcome. Dr. Soffer is overall the best doctor I have been seen by. I’d rate him an 11/10!

Consult w/Dr. Soffer 8 wks ago for a torn tendon in my shoulder. I had quite a few scratched open sores on my arms from anxiety that turned into habit. He informed me I definitely needed surgery but he could not perform it until I cleared up my arms and stated he was referring me to a psychiatrist. I told him I had 5 deaths in the last 18 months and I have been anxious, but did not need to see a psychiatrist. I would make appt. when I got my arms cleared up. Went back after 2 mo's of shoulder pain that is now worse. He now tells me that my arms still have 2 small spots but my legs must be cleared as well. I tried to explain I fell in the dark last week thus the brush burn knee and black and blue. He told me to be honest w/myself, then said I had to quit smoking. He did not mention this 2 mo's ago, as I would have found another Dr. then. I honestly believe if you are not a famous athlete he can put on his wall, you are beneath him. He makes you feel degraded and unworthy of his care.

At almost 50 I sure didn't want to hear you have a torn meniscus. The pain was excruciating it made everyday activities impossible. I am a few weeks post surgery and doing so much better all the pain is gone. Even the therapist is impressed with my surgery and how good my knee is doing. He had also done surgery on my elbow a few years back to repair a torn tendon and since then I have not had anymore issues with it. I would definitely recommend Dr Soffer. My son was misdiagnosed at this office.

My wife and daughter are both patients of Dr. Soffer. He has been very helpful, explaining all options, through pre-operation, surgery, and post-op. My wife had successful ACL surgery and daughter will have surgery for trochlear dysplasia (kneecap dislocation).

Dr Soffer did a great job on my surgery. He completed arthroscopic surgery on my knee on May 3. By May 4 I was already putting pressure on my leg and within 4 days I was able to walk well and bend my knee at a 90 degree angle with no discomfort. I recommend his services for Orthopedic issues.

I’ve had Right knee problems since I was 17. Dr Soffer is one of a kind, in that his patient always comes first no matter what. He is a meticulous thinker and always does what’s best for the patient. I give Dr Soffer a 10 out of 10 for my experiences with him. Awesome guy and Awesome surgeon! Highly recommended!!

I’ve know doctor Soffer for many years. He has treated me and my wife for knee injuries with arthroscopic surgery. We both did great. I recommended him to friends who needed joint replacement. They did great and one of them plays in my golf league. Then recently I hurt my shoulder and needed a cuff repair. I am only five months out and I am back to normal. He is a very skilled surgeon who I would recommend highly.

Dr. Soffer was very thorough with my examination & listened to my questions. We went over my options & my shoulder is on the mend because of him. Highly recommend him.

Dr Soffer is an exceptional doctor. He is very thorough with the explantionan of the injury thru to the surgery and rehab. I have had ACL surgery with wonderful results and recently meniscus surgery done by Dr Soffer. Awesome results from a fantastic doctor! Thank you so very much Dr. Soffer. Awesome surgery. This is the only procedure in which, I came out with less pain than I went in with. Rehab is a breeze, But remember,go into surgery in the best condition that you can be in. It helps both during and after

Sr Soffer was critical to my recovery and return to my Physical Therapy career! My extreme hardwork could not have been successful without the foundation of his Expertise with my shoulder repair!! I cannot Thank him enough to show my genuine Gratitude for his continued support through PT scripts, appropriate and necessary follow up orders and overall insight. Dr. Soffer was very thorough in explaining everything to do with my reverse shoulder replacement surgery. Within one month had good use of arm. Very little after sugery pain. Very profesional and courteous.

Dr.Soffer was exceptional. The ACL reconstructive surgery he performed was outstanding, his recommendation to use the patellar tendon graft prove to be the best route for me. I healed up quickly and was able to play the sport I love almost full go within 5-6 months. He was easy to set up appointments with and was efficient, as well as, reliable in the information he gave for improving my knee. Within 8-9 months I was able to perform all sports activities at the level I left off.

Dr. Soffer is a terrific doctor who listened to my needs and concerns. Dr. Soffer was my third opinion. I only had to wait 1 week for my initial appointment. Surgery was scheduled within a month and I was back to work (heavy physical labor) in half the time other doctors had told me. He was very thorough at follow-up appointments and really took his time, not rushing through explanations like some doctors. His physicians assistant is also very knowledgable and thorough.

My experience with Dr. Soffer was simply outstanding. He explained everything to me, from my injury, to the procedure, to what the recovery would be like. He is kind, gentle - and genuine with people. He is what I call "real". He is meticulous and did a wonderful job on my knee! I was worried about how much pain I might have, along with a hundred other things. I was literally back on my feet in no time. He was right when he said worry is a wasted emotion! Outstanding surgeon!

Fantastic experience no rush to operate talks you through the whole process forms a game plan and then stick to it. He is the expert.

I have exercised on a regular basis for over fifty years. In July 2016 I severely tore the rotator cuff in my left shoulder doing power cleans. I immediately contacted my orthopedist. He advised against surgery citing my age. That's when I turned to Dr. Soffer. I had my operation in September. After six months of post operative physical therapy at the SIR at Ridgewood, I have regained my strength and flexibility. I thank Dr. Soffer for valuing my ambitions over my age. He is the BEST!

I am very pleased with the surgery that Dr. Soffer performed when my knee was replaced. So much so, that I have encouraged several of my friends to choose Dr. Soffer for their knee replacement surgery.

Dr. Soffer did a wonderful job with my knee surgery. My recovery time was very short and all aspects of the surgery were great. He reached to me by phone post-surgery to see how I was doing and if I had any questions. The whole process was thorough and professional!

Dr Soffer in my opinion is not a friendly caring doctor. He was rude and arrogant and did not seem like he wanted my input on my issue. He never listened to my concerns. His arrogance took over the appointment to levels that was very unprofessional. I felt insulted and uneasy in his care. I went for answers but seemed he had no time for me. I would NOT recommend him to anyone.
